Yeah, for some reason I've been pretty unsuccessful at getting any official reply on anything although others have had better luck.
I agree it's better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully they'll reply to you with good news.

I'm editing democode and they can deal with it.

daaaaaaaaang, you go girl
Honestly it's the "or other automated means" that makes me feel pretty good about it.

Iranman, if you wish to read it in that manner be my guest but in context what they're talking about it is the entry process...observe:
"Should the Contest be terminated or cancelled prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on the Website, and, at Sponsors discretion, potential Winners may be selected at random from among all non-suspect, eligible entries received prior to the termination or cancellation. Entries that have been tampered with or altered will be deemed void. The use of any system or agent to submit entries in connection with this Contest is prohibited and will result in disqualification. Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means will be void."
What I believe they're saying is that they don't want people to macro up a "submission a day" or a "vote a day" or even worse a "flood the entry system" macro to botch up the entry process. In my very unofficial opinion, they're not talking about demorecord since that's clearly within the bounds of normal CoX usage.
But that's just me.

I took the movie trailer approach, but to insure a cohesive story I basically outlined the entire movie (I know, most likely a bit of an overkill but it gave me a really clear picture of what I had to convey, besides it's another 8 Baller story and I like him ).
So my process has been:
1. outline the movie
2. write the script for the trailer
3. edit the music until I had a good progressive pace and a solid feeling of the moods shifting through the trailer
4. start demo recording and scripting
5. write custom tools so I can get the shots I need (more on that at a later date)
6. Begin creating additional assets to support the story
7. "shoot" video
8. create special FX
9. Composite it all together/make color adjustments for mood and style
10. Begin to edit it all together in tempo with the music
11. Record voice actors
12. Record/add sound FX
13. which brings us to now...tweeking, filling holes, reshooting, still working on additional assets, sound FX and special FX
This is also my first CoX video so I'm pretty sure I could have saved time somewhere above but at this point I'm making it up as I go along....and pray I don't run out of time.
It's been fun, and it's a way to get another chapter of 8 Baller history in a more solid form than my brain.

Thanks all . The Lego pieces are a blast to do. I just wish I had more time at the moment
Thanks,
Todd -
Here's Kylanath's villain ProPaine. (....must hold back...) She the first Lego piece I've done with wings (...don't do it...self control) and she's got one of the most detailed costumes (...can't hold on...). And did I mention she was (...much...) plant/fire controller.
And yes, shes HOT! (** succumb to the obivous pun **)
Comments welcome.
ProPaine Lego

if I lived in the D/FW area, I'd have been begging and pleading with half the FUNimation voice cast to do voiceover work for some of my videos.

Sitting in the big D right now....J.R.'s old building actually. I've worked with Chris S. on a project before for the DBGT CCG (enough letters there?...Dragon Ball GT Collectible Card Game).

Why is it that everytime CoX has a contest, it results in me playing waaaaaay less CoX than I would be if they weren't having a contest?
I think I'm missing the whole marketing spin on this thing
Ahhh...I'll play again someday I just know it.
Todd -
Thanks, cause I can't seem to get a response.
Todd -
Ok all, I'm gonna ask here cause I seem to have a real problem getting an 'official' response from GT.
Is anyone else using different voice actors (or other voice actors other than yourself to be specific), so that all the voices don't sound the same?
Thanks,
Todd -

Sounds like we are all cranking. I got about 2 minutes of raw footage set up and paced right out of 3:45. Still need a few sounds, but I get the feeling that will come last. Any of you find a repository of CoH sound FX like explosions and powers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ash, I went into my options and turned off the music in the audio section then found a nice quite place in Dark Astoria and fired off the effects I liked the sound on. Then I exported the sounds in After Effect and trimmed and tweeked them in Sound Forge.
It wasn't a super quick process but it produced some pretty clean sounds.

Holy smokes Star, yeah I would have thought the same thing you did. Glad you checked.
And doc....sorry to hear about your file. But on the bright side (yes, always looking for a bright side) it cratered early enough that you've got time to rebuild. I was going to enter a video contest with my daughter and the file corrupted the date before it was due.....no hope there.
Todd -
I think titles should be fine, along with captions under the "your own ideas, language, content, images, text, graphics, animation, and other materials" line of stuff.
Heck, the titles were the easy part
Todd -
Mine is currently 2:45-ish. At this point I don't see it expanding much past that. Like Dark said...keep the pace up.
Geez, it's been a learning experience, even with the demo experience I racked up with 8's comic.
Todd -
Guilty on the "too many ideas" thing, but I've been working on that problem over the past few years. My thought is there's no such thing as a bad idea (just bad timing), and I've lost too many ideas by pushing them off the side until later. Soooo, I opt for jotting down the ideas in however much detail is need to at least capture the idea so that when I look back on in a month or year I can make heads or tails of it.
Then it comes down to priorities and timing, and hoping I can manage enough time to make the priority and timing match up.
It's sort of the "Henry Jones" approach. Sr. not Jr.
Sometimes it works. Other times...not so much.
Todd -
Thanks all, she was another fun one. And yes, about the arm, I just had to make up something that was believable as a lego piece. I was a little weary about 'twisting' it but in the end I think it worked out ok, so I went with it.
Thanks,
Todd -
Ssplinter's Lego Synchrotron is all wrapped up and posted here.
Full backstory is posted on the link, interesting stuff.
As always, comments are welcome.

Better watch for in-game ads, though.

lol, good point
And to the "credit roll" question. I'd be veeeeery careful about what you list. According to Dark's recent post they're taking the line about "commercial endorsement" in the rules very literally, meaning a big "no" on listing your "production company" anywhere.
I guess people may be ok, but that'd be a great big guess at this point. I just pulled any credit listing from mine just to play it safe.
Doh, and directly to your question. I'm pretty positive that's a "yes" as to does it count toward the length of the video.

Except that Cryptic still owns the engine.

You sure? My guess would be that would definately be part of the purchase. Bah, it doesn't matter.
I'm starting to think the legal rules of this contest are going to be the most challengingi part.
Todd -
Wow, thanks for the clarification on the logos Dark I'll have to pull mine.
On a side note....Cryptic is no longer associated with the game so I'd probably not worry about including them. NCsoft purchased all the rights a while back.
Thanks,
Todd -
Ok, so if I wanted to nuke Atlas Park, but since we don't actually ever NUKE Atlas Park in CoX. But wait, if you've ever failed the Terra Volta Task Force and the reactor explodes wouldn't that produce the same results?!...so it's assumed that the city is destroyed even though it's not, like some kind of parallel universe....yeah...and....
I agree with Star
Todd -
Hey, maybe I missed it, but other than the 2 - 4 minute time limit and the 200M file size limit, what are the other specs of the final video?
Tell me they're not looking for HD.
Anyone hear anything about this?
Thanks,
Todd -
Here's one for the NCsoft folks. Would it be ok to use the animated NCsoft logo from earlier videos as a part of the opening. Or does that tie these fan videos too closely to an 'officially endorsed' video?
Thanks,
Todd
