I would have to vote: "None of the above".
Rather than giving us a new powerset that basically does the same thing as the existing powersets, just with new effects, I would suggest a more radical upgrade.
As toon's level, I would like to see the ability to choose from ANY power/powerset, even if it is outside of my basic class.
So, regardless of my AT, at level 6 (for example), I would like to be able to choose any of the following powers:
Touch of Fear; Build Up; Hand Clap; Assasin's (Attack); Smoke; Propel; Arctic Air; Confuse; Spore Burst; M30 Grenade; Dark Pit; Power Burst; Rain of Fire; Aim; Electron Haze; Shockwave; Murky Cloud; Conductive Shield; Power Shield; Healing Flames; Dull Pain; Earth's Embrace; Murky Cloud; Danger Sense; Reconstruction; Focused Senses; Darkest Night; Insulation Shield; Weaken; Triage Beacon; Glue Arrow; Power Push; Fire Breath; Ice Sword Circle; Telekinetic Thrust; Fling Thorns; Snow Storm; Darkest Night; Repel; Accedlerate Metabolism; Sonic Haven; Cauterize.
Or any power from any powerset available under level 6.
Some Mastermind powers may need to be left out as they are dependant on other MM powers. Kinda pointless to get "Upgrade Pet" if you don't have any pets!!
Of course, there would need to be some sort of limitation to this theory. I would suggest, that starting by level 10 or 12, if 25% or more of your toon's powers are from powersets outside of your selected AT, you loose your Inherit Powers. Though, if your AT is Dominator for example and all your selected powers come from other Dominator powersets, you would not loose your Inherited Powers.

Uh no. They tried that when CoH first came out. It failed quite horribly. -

There were 2 separate threads in this section... one to discuss the potential new Melee attack sets and the other to discuss the potential new Melee defense sets. I had been pretty involved in the attack set thread's discussion, but as of yesterday those threads seem to have completely vanished. -
Did I miss something? The entire Melee Attack discussion thread for the vote seems to have vanished entirely.
-
You never know. I've heard some ridiculous claims over the years.
-
I'd have to agree... I take claims like that with a shaker of salt.
-
Eh, the Warwolf temp power never seemed all that beefy to me...

I never thought of the market being flooded as a possible result. I still can't see the work of the 1337 few flooding the market with rare recipes.......
HERE'S TO HOPING THEY DO !!!!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
No, but that's been the concern of several posters in this thread as far as I can see... as I said, I as well don't think those few are capable of flooding the market so to speak. -
[ QUOTE ]
The entire point of this thread has gone out the window.
1.) Optimus thinks he can solo every TF in under 30 minutes and that it is too easy to obtain the rare recipe reward.
2.) Most of the people in this thread call shenanigans or don't see it as in issues as they themselves can't duplicate the feat.
3.) The rest of the thread has turned into a pissing contest/Q&A
4.) If they were actually explaining HOW they did it in detail the thread my might still have a point for those curious how it's done, but they aren't sharing.
Just let this damn thread die already
[/ QUOTE ]
Well logically then, if most people can't duplicate the feat, it's hardly "too easy". It may be too easy for a select few gamers, but not to the majority. The real issue that people are fearing is that the select few might somehow "flood the market" by farming them and earning vast quantities of these rares... realistically I don't see that happening, no matter how much farming those select few do.
I can agree... there's really no cause for alarm. -

The only trouble i had was with babbage, in which a simple call in bcast took care off.
[/ QUOTE ]
Did they change something? Cuz last I remeber, you could just run away from Babbage in Synapse's TF... you didn't actually have to fight him, he just shows up as an outdoor ambush...
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah you can still avoid him if you don't want to fight him... but if you're solo you'd better be able to handle that alpha (that's the first attack from the mob unless I totally missed it... bah, I never actually saw a written definition, just examples of it used in various forum posts and... sorry I'm rambling... freaking meds. *Goes to bed*) -

BTW... how have you managed to make missions more tactical? The only way I have found is to build a toon (mainly /dev blasters) that find the need to use tactics more necessary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Try soloing Rularuu missions on invincible with a blaster. It gets fairly tactical for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do you mean the regular Kora fruit/clear cave x of Rularuu missions? I've done those with my Blaster set to Invincible... it's a pain in the keister but not really hard. Well it was hard for me but I'm not an uber player either... I consider myself to be about average. I don't think I'm capable of soling an AV in any case... I'd think for the really good players the Rularuu missions on Invincible would be fairly easy.
*Looks back at my post* Ugh. No sarcasm was intended there, though it may possibly look that way. I'm sick with the flu and doped up on codeine cough suppressant and NyQuil... cut me a little slack please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its been a while since I've done the Kora fruit missions. Do those have +3 bosses in them? The ones I'm thinking of do.
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't been to FBZ with my 50 in months... I do recall that the missions that I did had purple whatsumawhoozit bosses though... I can't remember the names, but the really skinny alien looking ones... the minions are wisps I think. Anyway, yeah those are tough because of that containment field they have. Overseers and Noble Brutes aren't quite as sucky to fight. -

Bah. No one asked, you, Ultimo!

They may not be the same, but they're very similar in that they were designed with needing a team in mind... thus in terms of whatever nerf we're likely to see, they're similar enough.

Issue:
Certain characters are over-optimal with respect to soloing material designed to be difficult enough to challange a team.
Solution:
The primary/secondary combinations that can solo the team content will be adjusted down, until they can no longer do so.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is what we call a bad solution.
[/ QUOTE ]
But based on what we've seen in the past, it's the one that's most likely to happen unfortunately. -
[ QUOTE ]
Please leave Shivans alone. They are very useful to the squishier AT's in the game.
The simple thing to do is to make the rewards tie into the minimum team size. If the TF need 4 to start, you must have 4 to get rare drops. Make the missions scale to the TF minimum, instead of for a solo player. Leave it so that you can still complete the TF if under the minimum, just no rares will drop.
I think that would solve the problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
What about making the Shivans more or less powerful depending on your AT? Similar to how Leadership is a lot more uber in the hands of a Defender or Controller than in the hands of a Scrapper or a Tank... ie the less your AT needs it to help avoid damage when taking on tougher foes (AVs, GMs, etc), the weaker the Shivan, while the "squishies" (though obviously still in danger due to their inherent squishiness) get the tougher versions. -
Quick question... has anyone ever claimed to have solo'd Lusca in the game's modern incarnation? Even with nukes and Shivans, that -would- be a feat.
-
I've recently discovered that the key to the RV AVs is Vengeance. I saw GW, Mako and Scirocco beaten down by a team of 4... and one of them was dead the whole time (target for vengeance).
-
I really really wanna know how long this "hundreds of thousands of xp" for GMs and AVs has been in the game, because I don't recall getting more than 60 or 70k on -any- of my characters, ever... not even at lvl 49 on a mish set to invincible. Is this only villainside that this happens? I see by all the screenshots that it does happen, but I've never had it happen to me. What's the freaking deal?

What temporary powers did you use? When I took down Ghost Widow it was under 2 minutes.

Um, I'm talking hero side here. I didn't have the benefit of an 850% brute damage cap.
Well when my Invuln/SS Tanker fought Battle Maiden I only used a Shivan. I posted the end of that fight on YouTube here .
When my Fire/Axe Tanker fought Bobcat it was pretty much a Shivan and Amy the whole time. I started the fight with a nuke from Warburg, but due to the length of the fight and Bobcat's Unstoppable period, it was pretty immaterial. I posted the video for that fight here . I apologize for the video quality; I'm new at the whole video capture/compressing thing, and YouTube has a 10 minute/100 meg limitation.
And note, I didn't post those videos to try to prove how uber I am; I just wanted to try to rise to the challenge set forth by Ultimus, and see if my suboptimal tankers could meet the challenge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I was no where near my damage cap. When I am damage capped I can beat a Giant Monster.

Call me a skeptic, but I'll believe that when I see it. -
Bah. Whenever anyone says purples I think of Break Frees... there's got to be a better name for the defense inspirations than purples.

Debuffs are one thing, but where did the sheer damage required come from on a Troller?

Wow, how could a Tank get the damage to overcome an AV solo? Does this mean Defenders, Blasters and Controllers could solo AVs as well? Blasters I can't imagine though... no status protection, no defenses (unless you took Force Mastery, but even still...), I can't picture them staying up long enough to do it. I suppose it may depend on the AV, but GW would probably chew up and spit Blasters out.

Blaster + full tray of purples + Shivan + nukes = Dead AV?
[/ QUOTE ]
Just purples? How will that keep him alive? Blaster = no defenses.
...and what about the other ATs? How's a Troller or a Defender going to take one down with such a low damage cap? -

I'm pretty sure that was his Brute, based on the screenshot at the beginning of this thread, if that's what you mean. A Brute has a far higher damage output than a Tank does.

I hear lots of people going on about how the devs do not want people soloing AVs. This is true to the extent that they don't want *everyone* to be able to solo AVs without trying, but really, *look* at the damn game mechanics. Look at how difficulty levels work. Let's examine the following facts:
1) The devs know that some players solo AVs. They do. Clearly. They also know some folks like it.
2) Up until a little while ago, the devs clung to their "1 hero = 3 white minions" mantra. This was blatantly untrue before ED and still is today. Why did they cling to it? Did they just not know that someone with decent skills could handle four white minions? Or are they catering to the lowest common denominator with that statement?
3) If you set your difficulty to relentless/invincible and solo, you will get AVs. Not EBs.
Now then: Which is more likely?
1) The devs forgot that setting the "required heroes to spawn AV" counter to 1 for invincible would force people to solo them.
2) The devs want soloers to never use invincible.
3) The devs want soloers to have to change their difficulty one notch down at the end of virtually every story arc from 35 on.
4) The devs know damn well that some folks can and like to solo AVs, and know that if you factor in all the time it takes to get the temp powers and take the guy down the xp/time ratio is such that it's not a PLable thing. Therefore, they left in the option, while saying that they aren't technically supposed to be soloable to make sure they don't set people in the mindset that everyone should be able to handle it.
AVs are soloable and the devs know it. And if they change the temp powers, the AVs will still be soloable by certain builds using certain tactics and other, different temp powers.
Leave the Shivans and nukes as they are. They're a great example of "fun" farming (as opposed to riding around picking flowers for and hour to make fire resist potions) that provides a kind release from the static mission formula. Making them worthless would effectively kill this activity.

I'm going to have to agree with all of this. Back when Ultimus' thread first popped up in the Tanker forums, it was met with a lot of mixed feelings. Some said he was nerf-herding, but he insisted he just wanted to share his accomplishments with everyone (to "prove how strong I am" I believe was his motive).
Before I passed judgement on his actions/motives, I decided to try to take down an AV on two of my tankers. Both of my tankers were able to take down AV's (though they were just Battle Maiden and Bobcat, smashing/lethal specialists) with the aid of temp powers. I received 1000 prestige for my efforts both times. When you look at the time it took to acquire the temp powers, and the time it took to fight the AV, the reward didn't nearly come close to the time invested. You can easily stealth two Newspaper/Safeguard missions on Relentless/Invincible and receive the same (or greater) amount of prestige. My AV fights lasted between 10-15 minutes, so the reward Vs. time equation definitely wasn't violated.

Just curious, can it be done hero side with anything but a Scrapper? Everything else would seem to be either too squishy or too low damage output.
