When is City of Heroes closing?

The City of Heroes® servers will shut off on November 30, 2012

Will I receive compensation for City of Heroes closing down?

We are processing refunds for unused game time that may have been applied to your account.

Can I create a free account and play until the end of City of Heroes?

Unfortunately new account creation has been disabled.

Am I able to upgrade my account to VIP until the end of City of Heroes?

Upgrading to a VIP account has been disabled

Can I purchase Paragon Points?

Paragon Point acquisition has been disabled

Can I still use my existing Paragon Points to buy items in the Paragon Market?

Yes, you may still use any existing Paragon Points your account may have.

Will I receive a refund for game time I acquired through the Refer a Friend program or free time acquired via a retail copy of City of Heroes, City of Villains® or City of Heroes: Going Rogue®?

Unfortunately, we will only be issuing refunds to players who have outstanding purchased subscription balances or paragon points.

How do I get a refund for the unused portion of time from the game time card I applied to my City of Heroes account?

Please provide the following information when you contact the Support Team to make your refund request:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your NCsoft master account name
  • The name of your City of Heroes game account that you applied your game time card to
  • The 20 digit game time card you applied to your City of Heroes game account

We will initiate automatic refunds on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 for those customers who previously paid for either a recurring subscription or purchased Paragon Points using either credit cards or PayPal™ as set forth below:
  • Outstanding subscription balances as of September 1, 2012 will receive a refund to the payment method used for the original purchase
  • Customers who purchased Paragon Points on or after August 24, 2012 will receive a refund to the payment method used for the original Purchase
  • Allow 7-10 business days for the funds to post to your account

For customers who previously paid using game time cards with outstanding subscription balances as of September 1, 2012, please contact the Support Team with your name, City of Heroes account name and phone number.

Once the Support Team contacts you, please supply them with this additional information to receive a wire transfer for the remaining balance:
  • North America: Institution, Account Number, and Routing Number, and the 20-digit game time card applied to said account
  • United Kingdom: Sort code, Account Number, and the 20-digit game time card applied to said account
  • European Union: International Bank Account Number (or IBAN), Bank Information Code (or BIC), and the 20-digit game time card applied to said account

Where do I request my refund of the unused portion of my game time card?

You will need to contact the Support Team and provide the necessary information requested. This Knowledge Base article should answer questions regarding how to contact the Support Team to provide that information.

What if I would rather receive a check for the amount of my refund?

We can only send a check to you for the amount of your refund if you live in the United States or the United Kingdom.

If you would like a check issued for the amount of your refund, and you live in the US or the UK, please contact the Support Team and provide the following information:

Please provide the following information when you contact the Support Team to make your refund request:
  • Your first and last name
  • Your NCsoft Master Account name
  • The name of your City of Heroes game account that you applied your game time card to
  • The 20 digit game time card you applied to your City of Heroes game account
  • Your physical mailing address that the check should be sent to

When will I receive my refund after providing this information to the Support Team?

Once the Support Team has the requested information, you should receive your refund within 14 days days if done by wire transfer. If we are sending you a check, it will be mailed within 14 days of the information being provided.

What if that credit/debit card is cancelled or expired?

The card does not have to be active. The refund will be applied to the account tied to the expired/cancelled card.

How do I get a refund for an unused City of Heroes Game Card or retail code?

All retailers have been instructed to remove these items from their shelves. If you did purchase a game card or retail code and were not able to use it, please contact the retailer to for a refund.

If they are unable to assist you, Customer Support may be able to help. Refunds for Game Cards or retail codes can only be processed if you have not already applied the code to your account. Please provide the following information when you contact the Support Team.
  • Your first and last name
  • Your NCsoft Master Account name
  • The 20 digit code from the game time card
  • The name of the retailer from which you purchased your game card or retail code from
  • A phone number where the Support Team can reach you

Once the Support Team contacts you, please supply them with this additional information to receive a wire transfer for the refund:
  • North America: Financial Institution, Account Number, Routing Number and the 20 digit game time card applied to said account
  • United Kingdom: Sort Code, Account Number and the 20 digit game time card applied to said account
  • European Union: International Bank Account Number (IBAN), Bank Information Code (BIC) and the 20 digit game time card applied to said account

NCsoft® is not responsible for any incoming wire transfer fees that your financial institution may charge if you choose the wire transfer option.

In the event that a wire transfer is not possible, you may request to be mailed a check instead.
