Just a random thought:

But I'm rather surprised noone has suggested the 600 pound gorrila who is coming off a MASSIVE super hero high and just might be willing to slap down some cash for a game engine with with an established dev team and fanbase. A dev team that could easily be ramped up to begin work on a different newer game with a certain select group of heroes.

A company with incredibly deep pockets.

Disney.

They're already working on a Marvel-themed MMO though.

Yeah.. though that said, I would love for a lot of them to get together and form a new development studio. It's happened before, and such teams have produced some amazing work.
