Looking for some help on an Arch/MM

I'm looking for some help and guidance to improve my Blaster. I typically run melee toons and have a good bead on builds for them, but Blasters are a whole 'nuther deal to me. This will be for PVE, and I'm looking for good defense, especially ranged as I tend to hover-blast. I do tend to come into melee range for Drain Psyche and Psychic Shockwave on occasion. I also like +regen and +damage...but I would certainly defer to more knowledgeable advice. I am working on both Clarion and Rebirth depending on the situation. Also, for the ATO set, is this a good place for it, or would I be better served by placing it in another power, say an AoE. I could gain some 4% to range defense if I place the ATO set in an AoE, but I'd lose out on 6.25% +rchg. I'm not sure that is necessarily a good trade-off.

You don't need to slot Drain Psyche for end mod, the recovery bonus is more than substantial even unenhanced. Your ranged defense total is sort of puzzling to me- First, because a Mental Blaster is going to play best in melee range, and second, because you settled in at 36%. Whenever you're building for defense I suggest either aiming for 45% in order to softcap, or 32.5% in order to softcap with a small purple inspiration. Stopping in between the two isn't really going to do anything but stretch your slots out.

I would move the ATO set to Blazing Arrow since the newer procs have a better chance to fire in longer recharge powers. I wouldn't put it in an AOE. Psychic Scream isn't a very good power, and it's hardly necessary- Between RoA, Explosive Arrow and Psychic Shockwave you'll have all the AOE you need. You could drop it for Afterburner and pick up about the same recharge for 4 less slots. I'm not sure why you have that sixth Oblit in Shockwave since you don't seem to building melee defense anywhere else- Not that I approve of building a Mental Blaster for ranged play, but with your given approach this seems a bit jumbled to me.

Explosive Arrow is an awesome power, but not unless you have some way to solve the problematic KB. Personally I use Mu Mastery; Electric Fences does tAOE -KB. The other option is the new KB>KD proc, but I personally prefer to use fences since I like to save the sixth slot for a FF +recharge proc. Since you went with Force Mastery though, the second might be a better option for you.

If you're not gonna use Ragnarok in ROA, and especially if you're not gonna use Spiritual or Agility, you definitely want a 6th slot in there for a recharge IO. That power is your bread and butter, and Posi Blast has terrible recharge enhancement.

Thanx for the reply THB. That's some good info that I didn't know.

I was able to move 1 slot out from Drain Psyche and changed out the end rec sets for Touch of the Nictus and gained more HPs and Acc (always good), and placed that extra slot into RoA. I will swap out the Posi set there (except for the proc) and put in the Ragnarok set...which I wanted to do in the first place, but hated losing the Posi Proc. I moved the ATO set to Blazing arrow.

I like Psychic Scream, and have a hard time letting that go...though if I can go w/o it for awhile, I could slot Subdual with Thunderstrikes for that extra 4% ranged defense. I'll really have to think about that. I'm not familiar with Afterburner to be honest. Mids shows it having a 30 second recharge, but a duration of only .75 seconds (????)...can that be right?

The 6th Oblit will stay...23% melee defense isn't great, but when not solo, there is usually somebody with something to stack on top of it, which means I'll be safer when in melee. playstyle difference I guess.

I'm also looking into Enh Boosters to squeeze a bit more out of the build.

I still have a lot to think about for this Blaster. Again, thanx for the reply!!
