-Resistance

I've looked this up on the Forum and on Paragon Wiki and I seem to be skimming RIGHT over information on the numbers of and how -Restance works.

This is my guesstimation from Mids. If I'm fighting...let's say that I'm fighting an even con critter with no defense or resistance protection and I debuff him for -30% Resistance before I attack him with my ST power that deals 100 pts of damage...to figure out how much damage my power will deal I should Take the 100 pts of damage and multiply it with .30 correct? Which would give me 30 and I would just add the 30 to 100 to get 130...so my power would be dealing 130 pts of damage?

I know the equation changes when you factor in the level of the mob, their defense, their resistance their rank ect.

Could someone explain this to me again? I think it was explained to me in 09' or 10' but back then I was pretty DERP when it came to understanding debuffs of any kind.

Simplest explanation: DamageDealt = Damage * ( 1 - TargetResistance% )

So if you had an attack that did 100 Lethal damage, and your even con foe with no inherent Resistance was suffering from -30% Resistance(Lethal), it would look like this:

100 * ( 1 - (-0.3)) = 130

A more complicated explanation might look like this: DamageDealt = (Damage * CombatModifier) * ( 1 - (ResistBuffs + (ResistDebuffs * CombatModifier) - ((ResistDebuffs * CombatModifier) * ResistBuffs)))

So against a +1 foe with +50% Resistance(Lethal) for example...

( 100 * 0.9 ) * ( 1 - ( 0.5 + ( -0.3 * 0.9 ) - (( -0.3 * 0.9 ) * 0.5 ))) = 57.15

The joy is, -resistance always improves your damage by the same percentage, no matter the target.

If you have a 100 damage attack and the target has no resistance but -20% resistance debuff, you deal 1.2 times the damage or 120 damage.

If you have a 100 damage attack and the target has 50% resistance but -20% resistance debuff, you deal 1.2 times the damage you would have dealt. Normally you would do 50 damage, with the debuff you do 60 damage. This is because the enemy uses their resistance to resist the resistance debuff. So the 20% debuff is reduce by 50% to 10%, thus lowering their resistance to 40%.

If you have a 100 damage attack and the target has 80% resistance but -20% resistance debuff, you deal 1.2 times the damage you would have dealt. Normally you would do 20 damage, with the debuff you do 24 damage. This is because the enemy uses their resistance to resist the resistance debuff. So the 20% debuff is reduce by 80% to 4%, thus lowering their resistance to 76%.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
