Shadow Field + Domination?

I was expecting since it was a location AoE that it wouldn't benefit from Domination, but it does!? Is this WAI?

Yes. It actually spawns two different pets, depending on if Domination is up or not.

However, as far as I can tell, only the initial, longer hold is boosted by Domination. The secondary holds that trigger on enemies that stay in or walk into the patch afterwards do NOT benefit from Domination.

I'm basing this info on City of Data: http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power...l.Shadow_Field

This begs the question then: Can something like this be done for Static Field or Volcanic Gases without making them overpowered or are those two powers good enough as is?

At least from a technical perspective, yes, I believe this could be done. Volcanic Gasses would be easy to overpower with Dom, though, because it already spawns multiple pseudo-pets that stack their holds with eachother. Static Field would be easier to balance, I believe.

My guess would be that Shadow Field is the first time the Devs have either figured out or bothered to try making Dom work with a pseudo-pet. It wouldn't surprise me if they eventually added this effect to the other ones, but it DOES represent a significant investment of dev resources to build the appropriate pseudo-pets, add them to the powers, and go through a testing cycle.
