This was written by a friend, Fire Lilly (it might be Fire_Lilly or some variation of "Lily"), who has recently rejoined us, but is currently on Premium membership. As such, she's unable to write on the forums.

Calmly, he breathed...

And smirked...

Even laughed...

...but his eyes betrayed his courage.

A whir of electricity intensified in the hollow room, an effulgent light along with it. Opposite that light, shadows danced rhythmically to the sick doctor's operation, of a malicious doppelganger over his imprisoned equal. Desperately that man fought to grasp his stalwart ally... But despaired shadows spoke for him. Passion dimmed as pain rose and joined harmoniously with the machine that made it.

Not a whisper followed the hour after.

Not a will...

Nor soul...

Nor heart...

The last now a trophy to its shallow, convoluted captor, who's work now enraptures the future of a man never brighter than any other.
