New Powerset Idea: Poisonous Blast...

As i'm sitting here playing my DP/poison cor, im thinking to myself, "i wish there was a poison blast to go along with my /poison" so i thought up an idea and thought i'd pitch it here this could maybe be made and released to go along with the proliferation of /poison defenders?

(all numbers i use are defender numbers, because im more familiar with them)
The way i see the set is a very low damaged one, so that they could make the damage type toxic and not have it be overpowered. This low damage would be balanced out a little bit by it's special "aim" power. I also see this set having a variety of debuffs, not specializing in one single debuff or group. The best debuffs would be put on longer timers. It would also have no mez, like fire, so it has to depend on its higher debuff numbers. Another unique thing could be, instead of a crashing damage nuke, use a crashless debuffing PBAOE. This might sound a lot like Dual Pistols, but it's not. Here's my thoughts:


1. Ranged, low damage(toxic), -def(-10%)

2. Ranged, moderate damage, -def(-10%)

3. Cone, low damage(toxic), -dam(-20%)

4. Acidic Boost: Click, Adds minor DoT(toxic) and -regen(-50%) to all powers for 30 sec(210 sec recharge)

5. PBAOE, low damage(toxic), -res(-20%)

6. Close, moderate-high DoT(toxic), -tohit(-15%) -rech(-30%)

7. Cone, very minor DoT(toxic), -tohit(10%), -dam(10%), -rech(-30%)

8. Close, moderate damage(toxic), -regen(-100%), -recovery(-100%)

9. PBAOE, moderate damage(toxic), -dam(-20%), -tohit(15%), -def(20%), -res(20%)
Keep in mind these would be with defender mods. It also needs some balancing. what i TRIED to do was create a low damage, high debuff powerset, without having the debuffs get to out of hand.

Im in need of some input so...

Problem being that there is no Toxic Defense, meaning typed defense sets have no defense against a toxic based damage set.

Every attack would have to be split damage types (Lethal/Toxic, Fire/Toxic, etc) so that it checked against an existing defense type.

Really there should be toxic defense, I always thought that was something of an oversight. I like the idea of a blast set that's more about the secondary effects than the damage, though. Perfect for the people who just want to do the support thing. Though enough debuffs and the low damage wouldn't matter, there's a very fine line there.

I wonder if they could fake split the damage - make it essentially pure toxic damage, but make it do 0 Lethal damage just to get it to check against Lethal defense.

I don't think they have to make it actually do a type of damage for it to check against that type of defense.


Issue 16 made me feel like this.

And anyways, mind control only checks against psionic defense, which is less common than just ranged defense im sure. so it doesnt even really have to have a typed defence. but if it did then they can just do the 0 lethal damage thing.
