Keith Murphy was a software engineer who worked for Crey Industries. Keith has a unique gift; he is a low level telepath and technopath. These powers allow him to both communicate with his mind to other people and also to machines. His powers however, are extremely weak, he is only capable of reading peoples feelings and having an intuitive sense of how computers work.
One night while walking home from work, Keith was grabbed from behind and thrown in the back of a van. He was tied up and taken to the secret underground lab of Dr. Rudy Bein. For years, Crey Industries was trying to unlock the mystery of how to replicate mental powers with technology. Keiths gifts may be weak but it was very rare for one person to be both a technopath and a telepath, so he was a prime candidate to be experimented on. Keith was an unwilling test subject in many painful DNA and tissue alteration tests. He was kept hostage and it wasnt until the rescue of Steven Berry (Synapse) by Ray Keyes (Positron) did Keith escape from Beins laboratory. As he left he stole many of the devices he helped create, and uses them to fight against all villains and especially the Crey.
Keith, who now fights crime as Murf, has many devices that will not function on without unlocking them with a simultaneous technopathic and telepathic command. These devices include a gun that emits a powerful psychic beam of energy, various psychic energy turrets and even bombs that spray psychic energy in all directions.
