Matthew Habashy failed to show up to be saved

In the last mission on Aaron Thiery's arc I was supposed to save Matthew Habashy. Unfortunately when I defeated his captor he wasn't around to be saved. After a lot of futile searching I logged off and the next time I played the mission he was there.

I remember things like this happening in the old days, but I had hoped that the game would have a way by now to make sure all necessary parts of the mission are available.
