Trying to comeback after 3 years. Need a lot of help Fire/Fire/Fire

Its been a very long time since I played and everything has become so complicated since I left. I've been reading on everything they added to the high level aspect of this game and really looking to dive in. Fire tanker has been the only character I've been able to truly enjoy. Unlike most people who play this game, I do not like making multiple characters and leveling up. I kinda like being one superhero. I love tanking but pushing out damage at the same time. I have tried literally every tank combo just to ensure I had the perfect one for me..but always came back to fire. I only like tanking and I know fire is considered the weakest of the defensive sets but I'm willing to farm or do what is needed to get him up to par.

Anyhow, my basic purpose for this thread is I have NO clue what are good and bad combos anymore. I mean the new crafting IO's are really daunting and even thou I have read multiple guides I'm still clueless. Just to give you an example on how long its been....I have 44 free tailor sessions and all my powers are slotted for example Burn, 3 recharge 3 damage single origin *this was pre-fear burn*.

I have 3 respecs and the complete second build thing that was introduced to use. I plan to use that build and just slot it as I can afford it and just use my current ancient built to farm inf till I get enough to do what I need. I only have around 70mil currently..which used to be a lot lol.

I want to be as max on defenses as I can. Fire already puts out a lot of DPS so its not my priority, I want to be able to take a punch and not have all the healers dread healing my fire tanker. (wifes a healer too so would be nice for her). I've seen some good builds on here but without spending a ton of money to test the set myself just to realize its not for me seems like a bad move. Can anyone who can break it down in newbie terms what IO's are considered a must and what are good ideas and such? I posted my current powers below. I am open to change them as required and within reason I thought about Melt armor but also figured its not really a tanks job to lower their resist..and hasten would be a better option. I could easily get rid of my rez but figured it could save some wipes if I kept it. Also thought about maneuvers just to squeeze all the defense I could get but seems like the endurance cost wouldn't be a good ratio for the benefit. Also I know its possible to drop acrobats now with IO's but heck if I know how or where to slot those. So experienced fire tankers please help me out. I miss the days I would lead the group TF's just cleaning house, but right now I'm a bit embarrassed to step into a group lol.

First off, welcome back to the game.

Secondly, read Grey Pilgrim's "The Wall of Fire" guide.

Thirdly, search the tank forums for fire/fire builds. There's even a couple on the first page here. Read what kind of feed back the builds are getting, as people have different priorities. Open up the builds in those threads to see what sets people are using and what kind of bonuses they're getting from the sets. (You'll find my current build in one of those threads, as well as comments on changes I plan on making to that tank.) Find a build that suits you, or is close enough to what you're wanting, then tweak it closer to what you do want.

What Rangle said.

Yeah, you can drop Acrobatics and just put 1 kb protection IO somewhere in the build. The travel power one is the most expensive (Blessing of the Zephyr's) approx 8mil? but you could also use the resist one (Steadfast) or the defense one (Karma).

Kinetic Combats give great Sm/Leth defense but are expensive.

example below.

this build isnt soft capped (45%) to sm/leth but would still help survivability. its kinda like having 2 Luck insp on all the time (vs sm/leth).

You're prolly not gonna want to buy Kin Combats so ill throw up another build.

here's a cheaper build.

Also, with set bonuses there's the "rule of five".

only the first five of a particular set bonus will count.

so the build above has enhanced global recharge of 5% five times. If i had another 5% recharge set bonus it wouldn't count towards your global bonuses (you could still use the enhancements tho).

I'm assuming you don't have a ton of influence...don't be afraid to NOT buy lvl 50 IO's. You can save alot by buying lvl 40's or lvl 41~49's. [the crafting salvage changes depending on the lvl of the recipe, also the crafting cost of a lvl 50 recipe is double a lvl 49 recipe (500k/250k)]
