Well, each piece in a Purple IO set is unique, but you don't have to put all of them into one power. You can slot 2 different pieces of the Set into 3 powers to get 3 instances of the 1st Set Bonus or 3 different pieces into 2 powers or a 4/2 split into 2 powers.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
I thought all IO' in a set had to go into the same power to get the bonunses.

Some people use all 6 pieces of apoc to get the 3 piece hp bonus twice.

I have never heard of anyone doing that, but I can maybe see it for PvP. I've heard of it for +recovery.

It is set up that way intentionally so you can only get the 4, 5, or 6 slot bonuses one time, and one time only. On most sets, the 4 slot bonus is 15% accuracy ,and the 5 slot bonus is 10% recharge, which are the highest amount you can get of either of those bonuses.
However, since there are 6 pieces in the set, you can slot 3 into one power, and 3 into another power to get the bonus for slotting 3 of them twice.

Specifically 3 here and 3 there not all 6 in one if that's what you thought I meant.
Just a quick query guys. Hypothetically...
If say you have a Defender (Empathy / Energy), and you want to slot out the power bolt and power blast with a purple io set Apocalypse... how many times can you use the Apocalypse set?
