This comes on the heels of rumors last month to that effect, though it remains unknown if the "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" director will write the script for the second Armored Avenger sequel or not.

The director's chair on the "Iron Man" series has been vacant since Jon Favreau walked away from the job late last year. At the time, Favreau said via Twitter, "I've had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best." He chose to direct Disney's "Magic Kingdom" instead.

Black started his screenwriting career with "The Monster Squad" and "Lethal Weapon." His other screenwriting credits include "The Long Kiss Goodnight," a screenplay credit on "The Last Action Hero" and his directorial debut in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" which helped resteablish Robert Downey Jr. as a leading man.

Should Black sign on to direct "Iron Man 3," it will not be the only comic book related film on his slate. Recently, he signed on to adapt the manga series "Death Note" for Warner Bros. and is also attached to Sony's "Doc Savage," based on the pulp and comic book character.

With Downey getting reportedly getting approval of his next Iron Man director, Black is a likely favorite for at least one member of the franchise's team. For now, all that's left for fandom to do is wait the official confirmation.

Well this can be really good if they pick him up I say. I love the chemistry of RDJ and Shane in Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. Also with the others movies he did that I love, I see some good promise for Iron Man 3.
