Ring of Fire on a fire/thorny?

Hey all, just wondering how people feel about ring of fire on a PVE fire/thorny dom. I normally take the single target immobs on controllers for single target damage with containment, but am not sure about taking them on doms.

On one hand, it does a decent bit of damage since it's fire (slightly more than thorny darts) and activates quickly, but I might have enough attacks without it.

Here's my unfinished build... I'm assuming smoke and bonfire are as skippable as they always have been, but any feedback is welcome!

Thanks!

I would only use ST immb on Dominator mostly for immb purpose. Ring of Fire takes like 8s to complete the damage?

The main thing you need to consider is that Ring of Fire has -kb so your knockdown from Rippers and kb from Thorn Barrage won't work but it can be good that you don't kb all the time.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

the important thing here, dom's don't get containment, and have much better sources of damage in our assault sets, so really the immobilizes are much more situational for doms, and in the case of the ae immobilize, spaming it at foes can be suicidal. the Only uses for immobilizes for a dom.
-when used after casting an ae confuse or disorient( like flashfire), to produce a ghetto hold
-Using the ST immobilize to control knockback on other powers.
-to immobilize a baddy with the dreaded Purple Triangles of Doom, and then procede with Purple Inspirations defeating the baddy as a blaster would do.
-to ground annoying flying foes
-to gain set bonuses, immobilize sets in general are fairly cheap

In other words, immobilize powers are low priority in both taking, and slotting for doms in general. The only doms that I could see it being needed on is MAYBE gravity doms, given they don't get any decent soft control options until 26, and then they would take a low priority once wormhole is slotted. And under no circumstances would I bother to use any immobilize power as a damage power on a dom.

Thanks for these very informative replies guys! Looks like I'll probably skip it since I'm taking all the thorny assault moves. Any opinions on Smoke and Bonfire while we're on the subject?

smoke is a nice placeholder power that you really need only 1 recharge in( in pve its autohit), its good if you want to pull, or avoid agro from nearby mobs. More importantly its a good way to help build up domination.

Bonfire has its fans and its detractors. remember what I said about ring of fire controlling knockback( and bonfire does knockback not knockup unfortunately), when used with RoF is used with Bonfire, it equals a ghetto Burn, which can be useful for hard targets( i.e. Elites and AV's) Its also decent for ambushes when used right, and other strategic uses. This is a power I'd recommend trying out in one of your secondary builds, before incorperating it in your primary build to see if you like it or not.

Ring of Fire does it's damage as 5 ticks over 9.2 seconds.

It also costs almost double the base endurance of Thorny Darts.

Bonfire does exactly the same amount of damage over the same amount of time as Thorntrops. The difference being that Thorntrops is a slow power and Bonfire is a KB power.

You "can" leverage Bonfire by casting Fire Cages every 10 seconds to keep the mobs immob'd in the Fire but that is pretty endurance and activation time intensive and for a Dom it's not really worth it (though I do have a Fire/Storm controller that does use it in exactly that way with moderate results).

Smoke is decent if you have other defense to stack it with. 4 Slots will get you 5% global recharge with a Dark Watcher's set slotted. It's 7.8 endurance cost for 60 seconds worth of -to hit. As a comparison 60 seconds of Weave will cost you 19.8 endurance for .5% more defense equivalent (vs even con mobs).
