SD/SS build optimization

My SD/SS is in the home stretch, at level 49.8. I'd like for the build/Mids experts help me optimize my SD/SS build using as many of the existing IOs as possible. I was IO'ing him on the fly and obviously is not finished. But man, what a ride he has been.

I recently (2 days ago) respecced him into a post-inherent fitness build as seen below and picked up Hasten among other things. This has had the unfortunate consequence of a build with 2 end crashes, rage and hasten. This has already caused me to detoggle at the most inopportune times, which never happened pre-hasten. Of course, I can either learn to manage my end crashes better, or just do without hasten. Or use hasten sparingly of course...

What I'd like from my optimized build:

1. First and foremost, as stated above, I'd like to use as many of the existing IOs as possible. I'm not poor but I'm not rich either. This toon has 150+ mil that I'm willing to part with if it will significantly improve my build.
2. Become more end friendly - I was very happy with my build before picking up hasten. I was able to fight pretty much non-stop. Now I have to pay too much attention to my end bar.
3. Soft cap all 3 positions. Right now I'm at 47.2% melee def, 46.39% AoE def, but only 41.71% ranged def.
4. This will also be an incarnate toon, so I'd like some suggestions on how to alpha slot...

Thank you for your time and critique ahead of time.

Edit: not sure why but the build below shows stamina unslotted. It is in fact 3 slotted with end mod IOs. And Health is 2 slotted - Regen Tissue unique (+Regen) and a lvl 29 Harmonized Healing: Healing.

First, I'd switch your epic pool to Energy Mastery (Conserve Power and Physical Perfection are your friends). Second, Tip missions are your friend. 4 days (5 tip missions a day, 6 on day 2 and 4) will get you 2 hero merits. go to Ft Trident on day 2 after your morality mission and grab a Performance Shifter +End Proc recipe. Day 4, do the same thing. Place in Stamina and in Physical Perfection.

That should help your End issues.

50 Inv/SS Tank, 50 Inv/EM Tank, 50 FA/SS Tank, 50 Shield/SS Tank, 50 WP/SS Tank, 50 Dark/Dark Tank, 50 EM/Elec Brute, 50 SS/FA Brute, 50 SS/SR Brute, 50 Fire/Kin Controller, 50 Plant/Storm Controller, 50 Earth/Therm Controller, 50 Necro/Dark MM, 50 Bots/FF MM, 50 Elec/SD Scrapper, 50 Arch/MM Blaster, 50 Emp/Psi Defender

Thanks for the advice. I already have 2 hero merits saved up and will use them as suggested. The temptation to add Ice Storm's AoE dmg to Foot Stomp and Shield Charge was too much. I will swap this out for Energy Mastery.

I realize the enhancements for this build are a mess. I picked up cheap IOs as I levelled and frankenslotted to taste, while still looking out for Touch of Death's and the like.

Well, I'm not at all surprised that you are having endurance problems, since some of your attacks are under- or unslotted for end reduction. You've also wasted a lot of slots by overslotting BA and Deflection for defense. I also wouldn't slot Taunt IOs in your attacks, since they don't provide any useful enhancement or bonuses; making sure your attacks have sufficient Acc, Dam, End Red and Recharge is much more important.

Here's a quick re-do of your build. I used your existing IOs where possible, and where not possible, common IOs or relatively inexpensive sets. Remember you can always leave your attacks slotted with common IOs while you're working toward sets. Where I've used a single set IO in a power, like the TC Res/End in Deflection or the Dam/Rchg IOs in Shield Charge, if you can find another set IO of the same type for cheaper, go for it.

Thanks for the feedback. I was not aware I overslotted BA and Deflection. Each additional IO I slotted in there boosted my defense slightly. I figured every percentage point helped. What are the final numbers for the build you posted?

The taunt IOs in the attacks were an example of frankenslotting. If I could pick up a acc/rech and a taunt/rech IO for less than what a generic ACC IO was selling for, I picked it up. The taunt piece of it was just extra flavor. I wasn't really shooting for it.

I like the build you posted. I will look at it more closely when I get home from work. I will have to craft the entire Mako set. I don't think I have any of those laying around. I think i have a couple of Crushing Impact recipes in my mailbox. I was planning on fitting my Ice/Fire tank (currently lvl 45'ish) with them but I'm enjoying this tank even more. I think I'll invest in this guy.

I'll use my hero merits for the Perf Shifter proc... and away we go.

Thanks again!

47.7% defense to all three positions, 179% recovery, 231% regen, 25% recharge, 46% S/L resistance. Something just as important doesn't show up in the stats, though, and that's attack slotting. Having your attacks adequately slotted for end reduction will make a huge difference in how long you can fight without bottoming out your end bar.

The problem with overslotting toggles is that after you reach 56% enhancement, ED is going to eat almost all of the benefit of those additional slots. In almost every case you can find a far better use for the slots in another power. Look at your slotting of BA compared to mine: you use 6 slots to get 57.89% enhancement, which translates to 23.7% defense. I used 4 slots to get 56.54% enhancement, which gives you 23.4% defense. So those two additional slots yield a grand total of *.3%* defense. Totally not worth it.

Frankenslotting only works if you can get all the different enhancement types you need from the IOs you're slotting. The usefulness of Taunt IOs in attacks is going to be limited because they have only two things you need: accuracy and recharge, and don't provide any end reduction or damage. I suppose using one or two wouldn't hurt, as long as the other IOs you select have enough damage and end reduction.

Yeah, I debated whether to recommend Mako's, but they are by far the most slot-efficient way for a melee character to get Ranged defense. Last time I looked they weren't super expensive, and they will get you to the soft-cap and slot the attack adequately as well.

Thanks again Finduilas. I hit 50 last night and opened up the alpha slot. Now to get me some shards and work my way towards your build....
Prime example of my end usage woes, I bottomed out and detoggled twice while fighting the Holtz and Weakened Honoree AVs. Made it interesting...stayed standing though.
