I have a Super Strength/Willpower Brute slotted out below with generic I/Os. I have been trying to run solo and just farm casually. I want to gather Inf like everyone else. The problem is that I die. Constantly. Radio missions. Tip missions. AE. I only have things set at +0/x3 and I die silly numbers of times in missions.

My Katana/Fire Scrapper is only in SOs and has an easier time than this. What did I miss? You're going to tell me it is user error and it probably is but I am frustrated after spending all the time to gather and craft (which I HATE) the I/Os and then fall flat in combat.

My build is pretty similiar in the power picks. However I use more accuracy/recharge in my attacks.

I have not noticed an issue soloing.

In time, I'll come to forgive you.

Nothing jumped out at me after a 5 second review of your build. The thing with Willpower is that you want the baddies gathered tightly around you. It's a bit counterintuitive since there's a tendency to run away from mobs when you're in danger. With Willpower I typically jump right into a spawn or if there's another mob in aggro range i'll pull and duck into a corner or whatever to break LoS. After that it's a matter of cycling footstomp to keep them on their butts. You really shouldn't have any problems at 0/x3.

Edit: I would slot Health up since Willpower relies so much on Regen. Maybe take a couple slots from Air Superiority.

What level are you currently?

In time, I'll come to forgive you.

(I'm at work so I can't use Mids to look at your build's actual numbers, so...)

The only thing that really stands out to me is low Defense. You've got a good boost to Max HP, Rise to the Challenge is ED Capped for +Regen, you've got some Damage Resistance so you're about as survivable as you're gonna get in terms of a relatively pure Willpower build.

A couple things you may consider trying out to get a bit more Defense into the build would be to fit in Combat Jumping (I'd replace Recall Friend with it) and/or put *ONE* non-Generic IO in your build which would be the Steadfast Protection Resist/+3% Defense IO in Tough. If you do both of these things you'd have a bit more than another 5% Defense in your build which certainly will help a bit.

Another thing to consider as you actually have a good amount of Endurance Recovery in the build, would be to drop the Endurance Reduction IO in Footstomp and replace it with a second Recharge Reduction. The damage from the attack makes it an awesome power but the knockdown built into the power makes it invaluable at times to put enemies on their backs to give you a couple seconds for Rise to refill your health a bit so the more often you can fire it off, the better.

Also consider finding or making a series of binds to combine Inspirations you don't tend to use into Purples so you can have a much steadier supply of them available to you. At x3 you certainly should be getting a decent supply of Inspirations to turn into Purples or whatever other colors you may want. I myself use Insert, Home, PageUp to combine and use the 3 versions of Reds and Delete, End and PageDown to make and use the 3 versions of Purples. I'll try to check back in this thread and post the binds when I get home if you'd like.

You could move some slots from air sup to tough and slot it just like mind over body.

Weave uses more end then heighten senses. Move one of those end reds from HS and put it in weave.

Health is stronger then PP. Move the two heals from PP to health.

An SS brute has furry and rage to increase DMG. 3 slotting dmg is kinda wasted. I'd switch one DMG in all attacks to a recharge. Doing that will not only allow to attack more but, thanks to the KB effect in the powers, will stop incoming DMG more often giving you time to regen with RTTC.

On my SS/WP, before IO sets, I had acc, end, end, rech, rech, dmg on all primary attacks and acc, dmg, rech, in air sup.

I know you may be saying you have WP you don't need that much end reduction. I said the same thing till that first time I had hasten, SOW, and rage crash at the same time. The recovery maybe high but when you have a big dive in end while you have multiple toggles running and using attacks, you will find your toggles dropping at the wrong times.

Another thing is how is your judgment on when to use SOW? Is it for preparation or is it "oh crap"? SOW isn't that good in most "Oh Crap" situations. You tend to end up hitting it then dropping soon after. Much like /regen's Instant healing in that regard.

Some good advice allready.

Rise to the challenge accepts tohit debuffs, should keep you alive a bit longer.

A bit of frankenslotting would help you out tremendously.

There's a lot of end redux in your build, run tips and use alignment merits to buy a couple of performance shifter procs.

I'm noticing the style of the slotting for the main attacks, Punch, Haymaker, and KO Blow. Its EXACTLY how I used to do my Brutes and Corrupters. my current style is almost the opposite now, and I can survive 0/x4 without too much difficulty. I now usually go with 2 accuracies, 2 endurances, and 2 recharges. The whole idea was to let the Rage/Fury handle the damage, and go for maximum accurate rapid fire. I was also able to to run with all toggles without burning out. I know, sounds WeIrD at first, but it works. I actually did a dual build so I could gauge it and sure enough, the new style was just plain better. Good luck!

Asha'man-
** Take 2 slots from Air Superiority (the DAM I guess) and put 2 slots in Health for Heals.

I am pretty good about jumping into the middle of a group of mobs.

Mio is 50. I just finished slotting Monday, so I have only had two days playing like this.

Thanks.

beowulf2010-
** Take out Recall Friend. Add Combat Jumping.
** Steadfast Protection Resist/+3% Defense IO in Tough.
** Take out Endurance Reduction IO in Footstomp. Add a second Recharge Reduction
** Binds for Inspirations.

I have wanted to implement the Binds doing this I saw in another thread for weeks now. I just haven't made the time.

Thanks.

Rieze-
** Remove slots from Air Superiority. Slot Tough w/ 5. (3) Resist Damage, (2) Endurance Reduction.
** Remove one slot from Heightened Senses, Endurance Reduction. Add one slot to Weave, Endurance Reduction.
** Remove 2 slots from Physical Perfection, (2) Heal. Add 2 slots to Health, (2) Heal.
** Remove one slotted Damage, globally on attacks. Add one slotted Recharge Reduction, globally on attacks. [Example: On Primary; Acc, End, End, Rech, Rech, Dmg. On Air Superiority; Acc, Dmg, Rech.]

I can see removing 2 slots from Air Superiority. I use it to knock things down not to kill. I don't know about gutting it by removing all 4 slots for Tough, but 5 slotted Tough would help. Maybe 4 slot Tough with only one Endurance Reduction. I am running it now for the small boost without any Endurance problems so even 3 slotting it could work.

I have not had any Endurance issues, yet. I have been too busy dying. Once I get a handle on that I will revisit Endurance.

I use Strength of Will as the a casual "oh crap" button. I push it early but not at the start of each fight. It lasts 2 minutes? Not sure what to do with it otherwise.

Thanks.

anonymoose-
** Slot Rise to the Challenge with ToHit Debuffs
** Frankenslot.

I don't have Inf for a major investment. Really, generic I/Os are the only option. This is my first character to have more than a couple I/Os. I had hoped this Brute would bring in much needed cash for my other two level 50s. I hate everything about the market so farming is the only choice. There are a lot of Alt mouths to feed also. And they are chirping like a nest full of hungry chicks as we speak.

Thanks.

Main_Battle_Tank-
** Global slotting of Primary Attacks: 2 Accuracy, 2 Endurance, and 2 Recharge.

Cool. Thanks.

Frankenslotting, if done carefully, is comparable in price to generic IOs. It takes some care and patience though. Make sure you look at all the sets that a power can take - for instance, you can get a good deal on acc/rech taunt IOs that as a Brute you can slot in your attacks.

Also, if you do not make at least cursory use of the market, your farming is going to produce greatly diminished returns. At the least, it's very much worth your while to check the difference between what you get for a recipe and what you'd get for the crafted enhancement.

One last bit of economic advice: rather than siphon off the earnings of your primary earner to your alts immediately, invest in the character and build up their performance. The dividend is in significantly greater earnings in the future.

In terms of build choices, I think you have a number of slots to play with. Rise to the Challenge can easily get away with just one endredux, as can Indomitable Will, and the psi defense of IW rarely comes into play. Rage provides enough tohit bonus by itself that it doesn't really need more tohit slotting; if you want to invest in a few IOs, then two tohit/rech pieces plus a generic tohit and rech will let you get almost the same benefit in 4 slots. If your generic IOs are in the 45-50 range, then you can also drop two slots from High Pain Threshold and remove a single Heal and a single Resist IO without significantly reducing the benefit.

So, what do you do with all those slots? Four slots in Tough: 3 resist, one endredux. Four slots in Weave: three defense, one endredux. Three slots in Health: three heal. Four slots in PP: two heal, two endredux. All together, this boosts your resistance, defense, and regeneration significantly.

If you're still having trouble with survival, consider switching to Soul Mastery and picking up Gloom and Darkest Night. The first is a hard-hitting ranged ST attack, and the second is a -dam and -tohit toggle debuff.

One last question. What are you fighting? It makes a difference.

Economics:
If there is a reason that I will quit playing it is the whole mechanic of crafting and the markets. I know its' importance but it is a roadblock for fun to me and I only do what I must. No more. I hate all the limitations and time sinks built in to it. I hate the double blind system beginning to end. I hate the lack of storage that makes me STOP playing and manage my (limited) inventory or stop getting rewards due to lack of space.
The less interaction I have with the market and crafting the longer I will stay with the game. Sad since things are centered around it now. But true.

Groups:
I want to get to Blueside. I am fighting too much Arachnos in the missions I am getting in Grandville. They are not the Only Problem but they certainly are A Problem. I only have a few Villains. Besides a level 50 Fire/Dark corrupter that I leveled 34 to 50 in Paragon City this Brute is my only one above 30. I don't know Redside well but I was told Television would have some good missions for me. I haven't been able to clear the first one yet.
I, of course, had difficulty with the stinky Malta and their Sappers on two of my tip missions Monday. I actually just auto completed and logged for that night because of that crowning the evening.
What should I be looking for?

I forgot what else I wanted to write after a couple interruptions here irl and it is dinner time. Back later.

Did I mention I hate the market and crafting?

I hate the market too. That's why I put everything from clockwork winders to hamidon enhancements to purples up for 5 inf.

It's still made me well over a billion infamy. I've got about 600 million in cash at the moment with a few builds 'worth' 500 million plus.

No crafting, no playing the market. As for inventory management the most I do is when I run out of salvage space I sort by amount and just chuck whatever I had the most of if I'm not interested in running to the market to dump things (usually I'm not). Same with recipes. I'm not interested in spending any more effort on it than that. I guess I could global e-mail things to myself instead of chucking them but... meh. Why mess with something that's worked for me?

Yes, the TV's defeat Radio mission would be a good farm for you. As long as you don't kill the Radio, you can reset it.
If you want to farm TV's liberate mission, try to join someone who has it. A lot of folks have that one.
Folks have also gotten purple drops in paper missions and tips.

This is pretty good advice. Especially the part about IW. I run with only a Luck of the Gambler +recharge slotted there. However, using only IOs, I would slot IW with one defense IO or an end redux and nothing else. Slot RTTC with three heals and one end redux. Give rage three recharges and leave it alone.

Slot tough and weave as Trashcan suggests and run them all the time. Keep your defenses as high as you can. Especially smashing/lethal.

This is very true. Anything that debuffs your defense can be quite dangerous.

Seriously consider using IO sets. I'm only a few IOs away from completing my set build. It already has soft-capped smashing/lethal defense. It's pretty close to unkillable and so much fun to play.

You don't have to buy your sets from the market. Use hero/villain merits along with other merits to buy the recipes. Buy the salvage needed from the market and craft them yourself. In a couple of months or so, your build can be complete.

re: avoiding the market

If you just craft and frankenslot the melee/pbaoe recipes that you get as drops, life will get better.

Go on a few TFs or ship raids, the drops will come.

Alternatively do some AE and make bronze rolls, they're cheap.

Run ouro arcs for merits and a change of pace.

If your alts are level 20+ they don't need a sugardaddy, they can run their own tip mishes and buy anything they want. First buy is probably a perf shifter proc, then probably a numi, poof! Your lowbie goes from zero to hero.

The game is balanced around SOs... at +0x1. If you want to farm you have to at the very least frankenslot and make intelligent use of procs.

Re-reading I see you have a fire/dark corr... if there's anything that can farm on generic IOs, that's the one.

Come to think of it, if you hate the market, why do you want a farming character? You don't want the extra drops and you don't need the extra money.

Of course, I'm happy to offer suggestions for performance tuning your character regardless, but it does puzzle me a bit.

Also, what the moose said. Fire/Dark Corr gives a lot of bang for the buck as a low-budget farming character.

Why MA ratings should be changed from stars to "like" or "dislike"
A better algorithm for ordering MA arcs

Either I overstated my position or you're taking what I said a little too literal. I guess the former not the later.

"Farming" is something I have not really done before. I doubt what I would settle for as a farm would seem like one to a lot of the regulars on the boards. You all are more hardcore than I am.

This project is mostly just getting play time on my Brute. Solo playtime because I don't feel I am good at all with Brutes or Tankers and the role they play in groups. I don't want to have others rely on me when I am not my best. I do enjoy the class and I want to play it. That want leads to the thought, "Oh. Let's see if I can bring in some cash while doing it."

My Corrupter is sitting for a while. I ran from low 30's to 50 pretty quick and we are on a time out, as Ross said to Rachel. She outgrew most of her enhancements and I sold everything after respecing, so she is unenhanced right now. That is in the back of my mind when I decided I wanted to "farm". Maybe I can get a few I/O sets with minimal pain for her was the half formed idea.

The whole thing is not really so much a plan to be executed as it is a notion of "Gee wouldn't it be nice?".

My loathing of the market is firm but so is my loathing of the DMV. Sometimes I have to go to the DMV. I hold my nose and get it done. If I was fabulously wealthy I could send my flunky to the DMV while I jetted off to Singapore. Same with the CoH market. If I could just run in get my stuff and run out I would get along better. I don't have billions and billions and I won't ever but I can work in that direction as long as I get play time.

I guess that explains it?

Today I put my difficulty on -1/x1 and finished my tips. So I can go to Blueside now. And! I joined a Rikti Mothership raid today. Huge zergs don't trigger my adversion to grouping, with my Brute. I'm not really there to take agro away from squishies and I, of course, was not the only tank character there. Anyway. I didn't die. Though I got stunned once and it lasted for like a decade. I should have died in that time but did not. I did okay.

I have the newest version of Mid's. I am going to see what I can do with all the advice later today. I might play a new build tomorrow or over the weekend.

Thanks.
