BNL's Ed a City of X player?

Captain Dynamic is friggin' hilarious. I totally geeked out when those videos came out, being a huge fan of both City of Heroes and Barenaked Ladies. 
From what I've heard, Ed had tried to get a couple random acting roles, and he is also a gamer. I don't know specifically if he had confirmed if he plays or played CoH, though. I do know he's been involved in other gaming-related internet videos... he did a voice in the Halo machinima Red vs. Blue (which was created by the same people who made the Captain Dynamic videos.)

That blew my mind, once upon a time I LOVED BNL (that time has passed, at least for their recent work).
Anyway, I'm just wondering if he was just doing an acting gig for that video or if he's a known City of player?
