Here is my build. I'm not completely spec'ed yet, but this is what I am working towards. Suggestions welcome. I19 will obviously allow me to go with 3 powers from an Epic, so that's another matter. Probably will go Ice for added damage and control.

That's a nice run speed bonus, but it is a bit overkill. As long as you get over 15mph or so, without Rooted, you are fine. I rarely turn Rooted on when I play my Stone Brute. You should only need it for the extra regeneration. It recharges fast enough to toggle between fights.

The defense soft cap is 45%. You went a bit over that.

I prefer to slot for Psionic defense. You can get 30% fairly easily while in Granite.

Rooted is not slotted well for healing. It is your primary source of healing and should be closer to 90% enhancement bonus.

Tough is over-slotted. You won't gain any benefit from turning it on. It might be better to move your 3% defense PvP IO to Tough instead of the Hami-O you have in it. That saves you a slot for something else, like enhancing Rooted more.

Why no Frozen Aura?

It deals the same base damage as Foot Stomp now you know.

Also, the Regenerative Tissue unique is not good in Earth's Embrace. You only get the bonus for two minutes after you click the power. It would be better placed in Health.

Thanks for the comments, I'll look at some revisions.

Tough is slotted to be used without Granite. With Granite I don't even bother turning it on. With Rock/Crystal/Minerals, it more than doubles my Lethal/Smashing Res. I go into that build versus Carnies or if I want to do more damage. Outside of Granite I have a not terrible +19% boost to all damage.

I shifted Earth's Embrace to all Doctored Wounds because with Hasten it puts me in perma-Earth's Embrace outside Granite and at about 151 sec. with Granite on, which I consider near-perfect for me.

I hate Frozen Aura. Is that a hangover from the old days? I guess. It actually looks like they fixed it to have pretty decent dmg/sec. IO's up right I guess it is ok. Here's a revision with it instead of Ice Sword. With I19 I will have other options. Not sure what i will go with.

Please see my guide on Ice Melee in my sig. You already avoided the 3 most common pitfalls by taking & correctly slotting Frost (for range) & Freezing Touch (for damage), and skipping GIS, but missing out on Frozen Aura is a big mistake, and definitely a hangover from the old, bad days. Take & slot it as a priority. You'll also want Ice Sword earlier or I don't see a good attack chain early on (or is this a late respec build? Even so, when exemped down, you'll be lacking in attacks). Also, Crystal Armor post-Granite? Most drop it even if they don't run very often in Granite. I use it as an emergency button, and it seems you do too. I have looked at putting it back in for I19 though.

Sorry, don't have Mids' handy so can't see your revised build, nor totals w/your 1st build, so can't break down slotting or IO bonuses.

Frost at lvl 24? I'd take it when it first becomes available, but if you're not exemping down much, I guess it's a non issue. Other than that, looks like a solid build. There are a few spots where I'd slot differently, though it kind of depends on what you want to do. For one thing, I'd put in a 2nd slot in Swift--many 3-slot it for run speed, but I find 2 lvl 50 IOs are good enough.

A lot of your set bonuses are for positional defense, with only minor typed def. I'd look to switch out the Obliteration in FA w/3 Eradications and 3 Cleaving Blows for better E/N def, which also means 3-slotting Crystals. Like from TP; the extra slot in TP is giving you, again, some weak raged def and weaker E/N def. FF can also be 4 slotted w/Kin Combat.

I see you have a lot of little +dam buffs--dunno if that was intentional to counteract Granite, but I'd rather just stay out of Granite and do full damage, so I replaced a few of them, also to give you some more +run speed. I also replaced Tactics for Assault, which is another place you can get a quick S/L def + w/the Rect. Reticle set, if you want to skimp on a Kin Combat set.

W/a few tweaks (and I didn't really go in too deep, I just made some quick changes), I got you to 44% E/N def and 16.4 mph in Rooted.
