Demo Playback Help Needed!

The title says it all really.

I can record a demo and can play it back using the '-demoplay name' on the end of a shortcut. However, I run using ultra mode in my standard game but my playbacks done in this way are on lower graphics settings, is there a way of fixing this?

I also tried downloading Zloth's Demo Launcher. Unfortunately, I run Vista currently and despite using 'Run as Administrator' as advised I get an error message stating that the launcher 'Could not find City of Heroes'

Any advice on either of these would be great, as I can make videos from my demos at the moment but would love some higher quality clips to play with.

Hit Zloth's site and download his most recent version. When Ultra Mode was first released, his player didn't recognize it. He then updated it to recognize the advanced settings of Ultra Mode.

Thanks for the advice!

I just went and double checked I had the newest version and I do, however it has the issue of telling me it 'Could not find City of Heroes'. It advises I run as an administrator but when I do it just throws up the same error.

The strange thing is, it should be accessing your saved settings for graphics display and USING that when it plays back, regardless of it using the Demo Launcher or -demoplay or whatever... hmmm.

a) Do you run the game in windows mode or full screen mode?
b) Are your settings for graphics the same on Test and on Live? (I have a suspicion here, and I'm curious if I'm right)

I play in full screen mode and I am just downloading the latest patch on test to go in and check my settings there, but if memory serves if they're not the same they are remarkably close.

Okay - you'll want to make sure they are the same. Then restart your computer, and try to launch your demo file again, Let me know what happens after that.

Changed so they match entirely, computer reset and the issue is still there.

I have noticed when I'm using -demoplay it seems to make any windows left open behind it superhuge if I tab out, almost as though everythings zoomed in.

If you can open a command prompt, try this...

Navigate to your City of Heroes directory (usually in Program files):

C:\Program Files\City of Heroes>

Then type:

cityofheroes –project –demoplay WHATEVERYOURDEMOFILENAMEIS –demohidenames –demohidechat –demohidedamage

It will temporarily resize your display, and you'll see both the resized prompt window plus COH running in the background. Let it run... it should then play your file back in Ultra Mode (I just tested it on my machine - then again I run XP not Windows 7).

Computers are funny things. I went and doublechecked things when I got up this morning and it's all started behaving. One can only assume it was the matching the graphics settings on live and test and the restart I did last night didn't help but turning the machine off for the night did.

Strange... then again, it may take a full shutdown and restart to update your registry, which is what the live/test synch was meant to do. That's where demofiles pull their graphics settings from.
