Ice/Stone...thoughts?

This looks like a fun combo. High defense to the most common damage types, PvE, Energy Absorption to deal with the end heavy secondary, lots of mitigation in the secondary to help get the primary into its happy place, and heavy damage (ST at least) once the mitigation is no longer necessary.

Is Tremor+Icicles enough AoE? What should I look for/avoid with this pairing? I'm planning on picking up Weave. And Hasten, definitely Hasten. Fitness until it becomes inherent, or can I skip it once I get EA?

I haven't played a tank in ages, how's the new Bruising working out?

My first 50 was an ice/stone tank. He was a lot of fun to play, you get tons of defence, tons of mitigation, and tons of aggro. Chilling Embrace and Icicles means you're probably not going to lose aggro, ever. I ended up grabbing taunt for the sake of pulling, but I certainly never felt it was necessary to keep things paying attention to me.

You will probably feel a little weak in terms of AoE, but the nice ST damage that stone brings to the table means that you can mow down enemies one at a time, and the mitigation that fault brings to the table means that you probably won't be in any real danger.

As for Weave, I didn't bother. EA can get you to the defence soft cap with SOs, and if you're tanking you probably won't be hurting for targets to drain. If you're looking for a little more defence, consider hover or CJ and a Steadfast Prot global, but I don't know if it's really worthwhile to burn the power picks on weave.

You will probably want fitness, though, until they make it inherent. EA helps a lot, because both sets are heavy on the end use, but it's still easy to find yourself completely drained before EA is recharged, especially if you're fighting things that are bringing end draining attacks to the table. Hasten won't help matters.

Overall, I think you'll find it's a lot of fun. I'd be interested in seeing how you feel about it as you play.

My Ice/Stone just hit 50 the other day. I haven't quite finished his build yet. I have to say it is a rather fun combo and I am very pleased with it. Very nice smashy feel to it. The single target damage is very good, but yes the AoE is a little weak (when stamina becomes inherent I plan to pick up a patron/epic AoE power). With all the toggles and a heavy amount of recharge i decided to keep stamina till issue 19.

The combo is very good on teams and I solo at +1/x8 with him and have little difficulty killing things. It's not the fastest, but still acceptable (to me at least). Large groups of carnies/knives/nemesis which can be a pain for ice can be handled with a good dose of tremor & fault with hibernate as a good emergency power.

I took all the ice powers, and all of the stone except hurl boulder and the second tier hammer (forgot the name). Also took hasten, fitness line, combat jumping/super leap, boxing/tough/weave. Good luck =)

Enjoying it so far. Got to 14 this afternoon. Went ahead and bought a Steadfast Res/Def IO (slotted in hoarfrost for now) it's nice running around Steel Canyon one Luck away from the S/L softcap. In teams endurance is ok because I can slow my attacking down to keep from bottoming out, but solo it's rough.

I have Stone Fists and Stone Mallet, along with both vet attacks and brawl. Chilling embrace helps a lot, but I'm waiting until later to get Icicles.

Looking forward to Stamina, Glacial Armor and SOs.
