Wireless card inexplicably not working

OK, so this issue only relates to CoH in that I can't play the game if I don't have a wireless connection, but I don't know what else to do. I have CoHHelper and HijackThis logs at hand if anyone wants to see them.

Yesterday, I was playing just fine, no problems. This morning, when I started up my laptop, for NO REASON WHATEVER, I got the following error:

ms56hlpr.exe - Application failed to start
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000096)

and my wireless network card simply would not connect to our network.

I have also tried:

updating drivers (no new drivers found; still got the error)
disabling the Motorola modem associated with the driver (still got the error)
deleting the ms56hlpr.exe application (didn't get an error, but still cannot connect to the network)

I'm now at a complete loss, and I would like very badly to rejoin my CoH friends in the game. Please help if you can.

Is the router you connect to yours?

Did the security settings change recently, and is your laptops wireless connection setup for those changes?

Can you connect to the internet using another router like a public hot spot?

The router is ours, and as far as I know no security settings have changed.

However, I have just discovered that I cannot connect to the internet using ANY routers (wirelessly, at least; I am able to connect using a CAT5 cable connection stolen from the SO) because my laptop thinks my wireless card is disconnected.

I would next go to control panel > system > device manager. (should be good path whether your xp, vista or win7)

in device manager, expand network devices. It should list your NIC and wireless device. Check for any icons over wireless device that indicate it has stopped working or is disabled.

If nothing is out of whack there...then I am not sure without actually looking at your laptop.

Sounds like it definitely has to do with your wireless card. I suspect it got disabled or turned off by windows.

Just curious is it a Toshiba? running vista ? did you recently get a windows update?

Saw this on some Toshiba laptops last year after a windows update the only solution we found was to rollback the update and set the auto update to off. and select specific updates ...

I forget wich updates actually did this, if i remember it was in a service pack 3 im assuming.

But 3 laptops all Toshiba's had same exact problem as you

Hope this helps

My guess is you need to remove and reinstall your drivers for the wireless card. Sounds like something got screwed up somehow. I'd expect a reinstall might do the trick.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
