Skipping Axe Powers

I'm getting close to the end of the road on a Fire/Earth Dominator and one of the things I've fallen in love with on said character is all the delicious knockdown that /Earth Assault provides. It's quite an addicting feeling, and I'm looking to create a new alt that can quench my thirst for enemies on their backsides. Battle Axe seems like it could do the job nicely, but I do have a concern I want to run by those more experienced with the set:

Style is important to me. It's very important, in fact, but I also like to be effective at what I do. To this end, the reason I've never bothered with Axe or Mace is that I find it disheartening that two of the attacks have almost the same animation. So all this rambling leads to: is it possible to skip either Gash or Swoop without cutting horribly into said effectiveness? Most of my Brute experience has involved a fast-attacking playstyle and I am aware that Axe is sort of a slow and heavy set, so I'm not sure if it becomes important to really have all the set's attacks at my disposal or I can get by skipping one. For what it's worth, I am currently planning to pair it with Electric Armor and will at least be getting some increased speed via Lightning Reflexes.

Hopefully that wasn't too drawn out of a question. Any opinions?

Got an Axe/SR brute, and I skipped Gash on my build. In the early to mid levels I tried it out and try to make some chain out of it, and it never really fit in IMO.

Swoop on the other hand I would not give up. It is a great power, does good dmg and is pretty much a guarantee KU. That is my opinion on this of course YMMV.

My brain might be reading wrong, but essentially, you're saying "Skipping Gash is okay, you can still chain attacks fairly well without it", right? That's super-duper.

Yup sorry if that came out harshly, I was rushing though that.

But yes, I found with Gash I was having more issues with my chain. With Quickness and 20% Global Rech. I can usually pull a half decent four attack chain.
