Request for Comments & Ideas: New NRG/NRG Blaster
On the other hand, am I leaving an option off the table that I shouldn't, as in NRG/Mental? Drain Psyche is great, Psychic Scream gives me another ranged attack (although its a cone, grr), Psychic Shockwave looks groovy and useful, even WoC might be useful. It *would* lose me the Power Thrust, which would be infintely more useful when mezzed than Subdual.
Thoughts?
PS. If I am *above* the baddies, Cones might not be *so* bad...
Edit: perhaps with Drain Psyche's Regen boost, I can skill Aid Self?
For Great Justice!
If you do go with the self heal, go force. Get PFF, Temp Invul, Rep Bomp and FoN.
Rep Bomp + Exp Blast + Nrg Torrent = Almost everything dead from range
If you go with Ice I would skip on the self heal and get almost everything there.
You get Snow Storm which slows, (good for range)
Ice Sheild which is pretty good
horefrost which is a heal
and hibernate (which can be handy and if you are stuck in a mess you can come outa it and nova)
I WISH! I had gone energy/mental just for Drain Psyche + Psychic Scream. I did however go electric which is not to bad as I have a drain power and incase something gets up close a really good melee ( I prefer range BUT having a good back up that will almost one kill a weakened mob up close can be handy, and I did get to stick a placate proc in there). I would say NRG/Mental = a better ranged fighter then Nrg/Elec and prob Nrg/Nrg
Then how about NRG/Mental with Cold for Epic?
I guess I am most worried about losing Power Thrust, really - that would have kept baddies out of melee range while I was mezzed. Still, there's a lot of plus with Mental. Not to mention perhaps freeing up two power slots by maybe not needing Stim/Aid Self.
Edit: Just realized - as a flier, theres little reason for me to take WoC I won't be close enough to them to use it mostly.
Maybe I should take Stealth/Grant Invis/Invis for the ability to LotG them and get my rech speed up?

Explosive blast is very nice for soloing, and I would consider Power Push or Telekinetic Thrust for single target mitigation.
You can always drop the Stealth powers there, and get a stealth proc for sprint. Then you will have place for one more power, prehaps go with Word of Confusion.
No Comment on scare as I have never tried it.
Anyway you look at it you win with Metatron's build up there or with other suggestions, with Nrg/Mental you have a solid set of powers at range, which is what you want.
I am def getting a stealth proc, I just thought the three stealth power would be useful for holding Luck of the Gamblers for when I get a full set of 5.
Explosive blast seems to have VERY low damage - less than HALF of my weenie blast Power Bolt.
As far as ST target mitigation, I will consider it. I had been hoping that Power Bolt, Blast, and Burst, with their KB would be enough. And then there's Energy Torrent for 2-3 mobs.
Crap on a stick, I just realized that I left out Flight from my quick'n'dirty build, recalculating...
To squeeze in Flight I either have to drop one of the LotGs/Stealth pool power, my snipe, although...
to be honest, again, should I consider not taking Psychic Shockwave? After all, it's use assume I will be in the imddle for a group of mobs, and I plan to be at range. Given that, maybe Drain Psyche is less useful too - it only lasts 30 sec, and even if I get the recharge down that low, that still means I need to swoop into the group every 30 seconds.
Now I am confused again over Mental secondary VS NRG secondary.
Sigh.
For Great Justice!
OK, more thoughts:
Even if I drop Drain Psyche and Psychic Shockwave I still get Psychic Scream and even Scare for more mitigation. Comparatively, if I go with Energy Manip for 2ndary, I don't get an ranged damage from the set, but do get a nice Tier 1 defiance power (Power thrust), and get some nice QoL from Power Boost and Boost Range.
Either way, it appears that I have lost both the healing I had been thinking of taking in Aid Self (in order to get the 3 Stealth powers for LotGs) and the Regen I would have gotten from Drain Psyche, since upon reflection I don't plan to be in range most of the time.
Here is a further modification of my NRG/Mental for consdieration:

I say what ever sounds fun for you bud! Thats half the fun of this game....BUT let me ask you this, why invest in 5 LOTG if you only play until lvl 50 and then shelf it? I can understand if you were going to purple it out and use it for a bit of PVP and PVE, but heck anything more then 2 on a temp toon seems high to me, but then again I am not you.

Interesting... by the way, the reason I spend so much on "temp" toons is that 1) I have it and 2) going from 35-50 isn't instant, and I like the feeling of growing power as I go.
Another rude awakening for me perhaps: Again, I keep forgetting that I am staying at range, given that, do Flash Freeze or Snowstorm even make sense?
I assume the 25 foot Radius they both have is vertical as well?
I just don't think I will be in range for them, however, I am loving the idea of Hibernate - I can been in it for up to 30 seconds and with my crazy recharge it will be up every 72 seconds! On the other hand, I have to land before using it or fall. But it amounts to being able to recharge my health and endurance every minute or so - not that I should need to, but still.
Plus Frozen armor is a great place for one of my 5 LotG's.
Perhaps I will take them anyways. Flash freeze is obviously useful, especially soloing or with a well controlled team, and snow storm seems fun.
Or maybe I should get Hoarfrost instead of Snow Storm.
Here is what I have with IO sets and whatnot possibly:
EDIT: Note, the slot placement levels are not accurate, I just threw them in any which way to see if I like the build, will order the placements later if I do.

I love how you boosted your DMG, I have been thinking of dumping almost all of my defense and spec from force to cold. currently I have more of a accuracy/rech/def approach with
+16% DamageBuff
+22.4% Defense(Ranged)
+Knockback (Mag -12)
+101% Enhancement(Accuracy)
+82.5% Enhancement(RechargeTime)
With having stamina not an issue I went for more of an accurate, fast recharge (and this is only with 2 lotg)\\
Anyways one of the reasons of getting cold is to get Hoarfrost as it is the healish power - I think flashfreeze is a melee so I did not recomend it to you.
Well, the focus of this thread changed back and forth and there were words words words so I didn't read all of it.
If you're doing energy^2 then I suggest you know how not to irritate people with kb, but I figure you know how. [Walls or death.]
I made this build for a toon I have at 14 or so now. I really dig her and will do something similar.
I have not submitted this for peer review. I'm over the S/L cap so when I do get onto this alt I'll reduce that and have a little more freedom.

Hope that helps, maybe it doesn't. Too much reading.
As I said, I am building a new NRG/NRG blaster, after about six months away from CoX. The primary reaosn I am is that since I first started playing during the beta before launch, I have wanted to play a traditional blaster, but I never cared for the blue/white color scheme of NRG.
Now, I can choose my golden/white beams colors, so I am.
Other notes about my play styles and limitations:
- I only PvE, never PvP
- I only play until I hit 50, after which I shelve the character and start a new one. Therefore I never have use for purples.
-After playing in this game so long I have vast sums of Influence
-Because of all my vet awards, I have 4 or 5 respecs I can use along the way.
-I also have Sand of Mu, Blackwind Wand, Nemmy Staff.
-I play a blaster to play *ranged* - if I wanted to Melee I would play a scrapper. Therefore I plan on skipping most non ranged attacks.
-Not a big fan of cone attacks either, since they are so positional and if you don't get at least 3 with them they are not as effective as two single target attacks
Now, here is my overall strat for this character: I took NRG primary because it looked the most blastery. I plan on mitigating the KB by taking Flight, and being above my foes, turning KB into knock*down*.
I plan on using Speed on Demand keybinds to autoswitch me from Flight to Hover as needed.
I took the NRG secondary for two main reasons. First, the first power Power Thrust is the perfect power to still have working even when mezzed (Defiance) - you get to knockback baddies out of melee range while you keep shooting them with Power Bolt and Blast. Whlie mezzed.
Also, according to the description, Power Boost increases KB, which might be fun, so long as I don't cause myteammates hassle. Boost Range isn't bad either. And Build Up comes fast.
I plan on taking Stamina and Hasten, because in relying on mostly single-target ranged attacks I will need to be spamming them, meaning I will need to have them come back fast so as not to have holes in my attack chain. Also, a faster recharge will also help me with AIM and BU coming back fast.
I plan on getting a +stealth for my Hover (and maybe my Flight) to better sneak up on baddies before I unleash on them.
I hope to play mostly in teams.
I am leaning toward getting Aid Self - especially with Power Boost, would be useful. Plus there are some nice Heal IOs.
I am not sold on any particular epic pool.
Here is my off the top of my head power picks then:
NRG Primary: Power Bolt, Power Blast, Energy Torrent (to throw baddies back when needed),Power Burst, Sniper Blast (nice mob starting damage), Aim, and Nova, not necessarily in that order.
NRG Secondary: Power Thrust, BuildUp, Power Boost, Boost Range, Total Focus (hey, I know its melee, but its *heavy* damage + Stun.
Pool Powers: Hover, Fly, Hasten, Swift (slotted for Flight Increase), Health, Stamina, Stimulant, Aid Self
Epic Pool Powers: Force w/ PFF, Temp Invuln, FoN? Flame with Char, Fire Shield, Melt Armor? Don't like munitions (not a gun super), don't like Surge of Power (I have a costume for a reason.)
Your thoughts?
