I use Vista 64 on a Dell XPS with an ATI Radeon 4860.

I just bought the game, and it appeared to install and update fine. But when I click to first page after the verify page, my whole screen starts flickering like crazy and I cannot use any of the buttons on the screen. I have the latest 9_12 drivers installed.

OK, now I can at least click buttons and pick a server, etc. However, the game is still flickering like crazy.

In addition to all the flickering, my resolution is way down as well. But I can't find any way to work with my video settings.

Did you try starting in Safe Mode yet?
Are you just running one monitor?

I'm assuming some of the players with more technical knowledge than I would probably want you to post the output from HijackThis or some other system diagnostic tool that would give you a list of your computers hardware and software set up.

Are you able to get into the Options menu>Graphics tab?

Right click on City Of Heroes on the desktop and go to Properties then the Compatibility tab. Make sure Run in compatibility mode is unchecked. Further down in the same tab make sure Run as Administrator is checked.

While you're doing that, might as well post a CoH Helper log as well so we get a better understanding of your hardware.
Most often, it is the video card drivers that are causing the issue.

The info above is from another thread, but still applies. There is also a hotfix for Catylist, I'll see id I can hunt it down.

I found it. There is a hotfix for the 9_12 drivers that fixed the problem. I should just know that it is ATI incompetence by now.
