Try:
1. Delete checksum.coh from the CoH directory.
2. Reboot the computer.
3. Start the updater and let it verify files.

I wonder if anyone else experiences this problem, it occured the when double XP weekend was implemented (Friday). I started the game as usual, but it got stuck at the updater always trying to connect, but never getting anywhere. It worked again the next day (Saturday), but now on this lovely Sunday morning it is stuck again. No setting was changed, neither did I do an update/upload or any other changes to my PC.
I tried the different ports to get the updated going, but no luck there.
Any hints would be appreciated.
