TriForm WS build fine tuning

AlienOne

Posted

So I've been building this character up for some time trying to get a build I liked. Human only was nice but needed a lot more money than I had available. I built this TriFormer instead. It looks pretty solid on paper, but I've never played a TriForm at high levels before. So will this cut it or am I missing something. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you to LordXenite for the base layout of this build.

Right then - your build is very different to mine so I won't make too many comments on the powers you have taken - but what I would say is watch for the powers you never use and considerer switching them for powers that you might use, even occasionally. For example Shadow Blast could be swapped for Stimulant, even if you use Stimulant once that might be more than you would use Shadow Blst, and it is one step closer to Resuscitate.

The particulars I would say:

Shadow Blast - Looks like you either use it, or you don't. If you do then find some more slots, if you don't save yourself the cost of that IO

Sunless Mire - I only have mine 3 slotted, but lots of people have their's 6 slotted so I would definately recommend finding room for more slots in there, it makes a huge difference when you have it fully saturated.

Black Dwarf (Form) - Overslotted. I have 4 slots, 3 Res/End and the chance for +endurance. You are slotting for endurance reduction and modification but with your slotting you are only recovering 0.2 endurance per second, and that is costing you 3 slots. You are better off trying to get endurance reduction into the attacks instead.

Stygian Circle - Well slotted, though perhaps you can save a slot here because you don't need quite so much end/heal.

Gravatic Emination - You have slotted it as an attack, which is fine if you are going for the recharge, but it is an excellent stun, so consider slotting it for stun instead (Stupefy has the same recharge bonus - and costs less!).

Eclipse - Doesn't need the endurance modification. I have mine slotted with 4 res/rech and one normal accuracy IO. You get better numbers that way.

Super Speed - Consider putting the +stealth IO into Sprint, that way you can stealth using Sprint and Shadow Cloak without running into walls

Quasar - It is a nuke, slot it like one Obliteration works nice because you don't really need the endurance reduction, which is the bonus Obliteration is low on.

Dark Nova Bolt/Blast - Any reason that are slotted differently? I would decide which gives the best bonus' and slot them the same. And if you can save up for the Decimation set, that works really well in both.

Dark Nova Emanation/Detonation - Consider dropping the acc/dam/end for the proc, increases actual damage done on average, but make sure you can afford the endurance. You have enough global accuracy to make it work.

Black Dwarf Mire - The Obliteration set is a poor choice because this is very endurance heavy, and spamming it every 6 seconds will use your endurance up fast!

That is about it from me

PS: You are on an old version of mids

Just select 'check for updates now' from the options menu.

Thanks for the suggestions. Heres my thinking:

Shadow Blast - I'm going to keep this the same, from my human form experience this and Grav Well are good at killing a single target to fire unchain or extraction.

Sunless Mire - Yeah i think ill take some from Black Dwarf. Slot it with what?

Black Dwarf - Makes sense ill probably drop two slots.

Grav Emination - I'll have to check on the prices. I never used it in Human only so I'll see.

Eclipse - Which res/rec are you using? Numbers do look good.

SS - What?

Quasar - This was a consession to get higher recharge and at this point it is keeping eclipse perma (should I care about perma eclipse). I might take the Obliteration from Black Dwarf Mire and put it here.

DN Bolt/Blast - I dont know which is a better set but I guess decimation is the way to go though.

DN Emanation/Detonation - Im really up in the air with procs but might save some inf.

Black Dwarf Mire - what do you suggest instead.

I probably will drop dark detonation for stimulant maybe nebulous and inky to get to resuscitate.

Thanks again I'll probably just take the dive after appling these suggestions. I need to get some experience with this type of build.

On the the mids version it looks like the firewall at work is blocking whatever mids is doing over the network.

Yeah it will probably add that bit of damage that added to Gravity Well will give you the corpse for that chain

I am actually just putting 3 recharge IO's in mine. You have good global accuracy, and I think it is better to slot it like that so you can use it as a buff rather than an attack.

Stupefy is a lot cheaper than Positron's Blast

I am using the res/rech from Aegis, Titanium Coating, Impervium Armor and Reactive Armor. I think one of those is quite expensive, but I think worth it.

Superspeed grants stealth without having the +stealth IO, and you also have Shadow Cloak for stealth.
In PvE at least, Shadow Cloak + either Superspeed or a +stealth IO will put you at the stealth cap, so if you put that +stealth IO into Sprint, then using Shadow Cloak + Sprint will give you the most stealth you can get. That was you can ghost missions while still having the control of Sprint. Or, you can still choose to put Superspeed on and move quickly, it just gives you one more option.

Perma-Eclipse is something I would call the key, so I would be prepared to make a few sacrifices for it, and this is one power I can see worth the sacrifice, because using Sunless Mire before Quasar will still give you good damage. But the Obliteration set will go nicely in here.

To be honest aside from Decimation (Which is expensive) I would pick the cheapest out of the others, they are both very similar in numbers.

The best way to look at procs is just put them into mids and look at the how the damage changes. In general once you have 80%+ damage in a power then a damage proc will work better than an extra damage IO.

I have frankenslotted mine rather than putting a set in it, I think the power is so good that I would concentrate on getting the best % for Dam/End/Rech you can get.

That is what I would do, but it is one of those personal things depending how often you use those powers. The one thing I do know is that since you have a self res and tp you make a good battle rezzer.

Most of the veteran players have gone through a lot of respecs! Just keep playing and watch carefully for which powers you use, if you find yourself not using some powers look at what you can swap them for, if you are using powers a lot then make sure they have enough slots.

Ah maybe, I don't think there is much difference in the numbers or sets available so it isn't a big deal. I am just very anal about things like that

So I took the dive after applying those suggestions and took it for a spin on a STF, lots of fun. I have to get used to form switching. Looks like I'm .5 seconds from perma eclipse. I guess I'll have to wait for some purples to get that perma. Otherwise its really solid. Black Dwarf Mire is real nasty against all those bane spiders. Thanks again for all the help.

Here is the final build just for reference.

That looks like a very solid build, well done with it

The one thing I have noticed is that you have 6 x 9% accuracy bonus' so one is going to waste (I should have noticed that before!).

If you swap the Posi Blast set in Gravatic Emination to a Stupefy set you will have no wasted bonus' and keep the same level of recharge (But get a few more hp, though you lose some damage it isn't much since Gravatic Emination isn't really a damage power). If you prefer to keep the Posi Blast set then you could look at frankenslotting Black Dwarf Drain.

Does the Numina's unique in Aid Self always work? Or do you need to actually use Aid Self to get it to proc? And is it still in effect when you change forms?

Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the 5X rule only applied to using the same set five times... According to Mid's, it still ups your acc if you have more than 5X of a certain percentage bonus, as long as you're not getting that certain percentage bonus from the same set more than 5X. As an added example, you can slot more than 5 sets of LoTG in a Super Reflexes build, but you wouldn't get the bonuses from more than 5 of the sets, correct? So, say you have 5 ACC bonuses from the same set, but you also have 2 bonuses of 7% acc from 2 different sets. Would they not also work as well? It seems to reflect that in Mids...

Try it. If you make a Super Reflex build, and put 6 sets of LoTG in it, you will see that the percentages don't go any higher after the 5th set. However, you could still technically up your ACC by another 9% if you use a different set that offers the same set bonus.

The proc runs for 2 mins every time you fire aid self. The effect comes along just as Hasten and Ecplise do. I just fire it off at the beginning of a mission or AV fight or whenever I think of it.

Its based on the bonus. so slotting 5 LoTG and a Basilisk's Gaze set would only get you 37.5% recharge. That specific example might not be true but essentially If they have the same bonus you can only have 5 of them.

Also in my Mids it specifically says that I have exceeded a Cap for 9% accuracy.

You're right. I just checked it out. I actually didn't know that--I was always under the impression that the limit was placed on the set itself, and not on the set bonus.

That's pretty helpful to know.

It is 5 of any specific bonus, regardless of where that bonus comes from.

However LoTG's are I think are different because they count as global bonus' not set bonus', therefore you could have 5 x 7.5% from LoTG AND 5 x 7.5% from Basilisks Gaze.

Here's a link to my posts on my *current* advice for a "particular" build/plastyle for a WS tri-former, if you care to peruse it.

It's an extremely long read, but it could be helpful too...
