It semed like before she even finished dialling on her mobile, her sister's voice could be heard saying,
"How did it go, you ok Sis, I bet there were no problems" , she interupted this stream to say,
" Well..."
" What ! What do you mean by what, if he's binned you I'll take his soddin' head off..."
"Hang on a mo Sis, no I'm ok I'm not in trouble he just doesn't want to put me back in the frontline yet..."
She heard a sigh,
"Ok I'm alright with that, to be honest I'm happier with that, that last mission you were on was a *******. So you getting a holiday, some time on a beach or knowing you with some primitive tribe in Borneo or somewhere."
" Nah he said he's had a request to loan me out to some other government department, said they wanted someone with my sort of academic background. I'm supposed to go round there later this afternoon an office near the British Museum.." Before she could get any fiurther her sister interupted her,
"Thadeus bloody Smith..."
"Yeah thats him, why? Something wrong with him?"
"Caro we gotta meet somewhere we can talk without people listening, hmmm the Dutch pub by Soho's Chinatown you know it?"
"Yeah"
"Ok I'll see you there 3ish , oh and make sure you're clean.", with that her sister cut the call.

She was left wondering what the hell was going on, why did her sister react that way and why the no tails comment, who would be following her here in London. She was left with what an hour and twenty minutes or so before the meeting, so if her sister wants no tails a visit to some shops is in order.

She decided to head to Waterloo, get the Underground there and then head towards Oxford Street. She'd just turned off Upper Marsh when she heard,
"Give us your bag woman or I'll cut you!"
She turned to see two, well what were teenagers at best, with their hoodies pulled up, scarves covering the lower half of their faces. It is diificult to quite know what they expected as a reaction but laughter was probably not it.
" Not bloody likely, I was only given it last night and I rather like it."

The taller of the two stepped closer, she could see reddened eyes and spots above the scarf, waving a knife in front of her face, her SAS instructor had always said you should never look a gift horse in the mouth, so she darted her left hand out , grasping his hand, then she stepped past him spinning as she did. The effect was an almost whiplike action, as she had locked his wrist, his arm and then his body had to follow, only his path lead past her leg, the result he was wrenched into the air before he knew what had happened. She then continued the movement locking his wrist and arm, stamping her right, high-heeled booted, foot down onto his now exposed back. There was a distinct popping sound as his shoulder dislocated, a wooshing grunt as the air was driven from his lungs, which meant he could only gurgle in pain. A little tweak and a grind of the heel and he was shrieking in pain.

The other hoody looked twice and took to his heels. Caroline let go the the first kid, he wasn't going anywhere in a hurry, she reached to her right wrist and undid the catch on the chain she wore there, a quick shake and it flicked out from her arm, like snake, she stepped after the fleeing hoody whirling the chain, then unleashing it, to fly spinning out after the him. It flew towards his legs, wrapping itself round his ankles bringing him crashing to the ground. His head smacked into the pavement, blood spraying out from his nose as it crumpled.

She turned back to the first hoody , reached down grasped his arm and twisted, again there was a clunk as his shoulder relocated itself. He writhed in pain, she knelt down taking care not to get any dirt on her grey linen trousers.
"Well little man who sent you?"
The only reply was a groan, worried that the noise of what had just happened might attract some official attention, she stood and kicked him onto his back, he yowled inarticularly. She then glanced around to check noone was looking. It was a quiet side road, no twitching curtains, no passersby, maybe that's why they had picked here to try to mug her.
If anyone had been looking they might have seen the woman's fingers blur , making complex gestures, they might have heard some mumbled words in a foreign sounding language, what they definately would have seen was the young man lurch up into a sitting position and start talking.

"No my Lady we were just trying to get your money, no my Lady we don't work for noone else, just need a fix, just need money for a fix."

She rollled back his sleeves to reveal the tracks of repeated injections.
"You no longer need that, you will no longer steal to feed the habit" this was accompanied by a strange darkness wreathing her hands. She then stood up and walked to the other hoody who was lieing unconscious on the pavement. She unwrapped her chain, which then seemed to wrap itself about her right wrist, repeating the process with this one.

" Bloody kids that'll teach you a lesson you shouldn't forget", with that she stood checked her watch, only an hour till she had to meet her sister, and strode, off her heels clicking on the pavement.

Next time what strange things you can find in fountains and other things.
