Whilst I'm very aware that many of you probably don't know me, I felt as if I should still make every best effort with these event to give it as much publicity as possible in order to try and raise as much as we can. So I figured, hey, I'm part of this community, why not share what I'm doing?
I've organised a charity event to raise money for Help For Heroes, a charity that supports the injured soldiers of the British Army to try and get back to the normality of life, be it after trauma, or losing a limb.
Fifty five cadets, former cadets (of my Contingent), current servicemen and ex servicemen will be doing a 100 mile off road journey carrying burdens of around 65lbs. There are kids as young as 14 doing the walk and adults as old as 49, so there is quite the variety of people on board.
The task itself is going to be extremely difficult, as 100 miles is quite a long way, not to mention that we will be carrying 65lbs~ on our backs, which is a very difficult weight. As the route is off-road, it makes it even more arduous as we'll have to wade through rivers, climb hills, cross fences and all sorts. Oh, and did I mention it's purely survival as well? We're trying to raise as much money as possible in the form of sponsorship, so I thought why ever not ask here. If any of you are interested in sponsoring us, then you can either send me the money by post, or through our JustGiving website. Also, for every £1 that is sponsored, through a Government scheme called Gift Aid, they will give 25p~ so long as you are a tax payer. This means if you want to use the Gift Aid, and help us earn 1/4~ more, then we'll need your address and postcode (which gets entered onto the websites database, and remains confidential).
If you are interested in sponsoring us, even if it's just £1, or want to know more about the event (and need some verifying), then please just let me know
And remember, £1 might not be much to you, but when everyone gives so little, it can become so much, and do so much, for our soldiers.
Chris
PS: I am willing to do wild and crazy video footage to help raise money! Borris Johnson may be there to see us off, and one person has already asked us to line up and do the YMCA with Borris in full kit.
