The world was on fire that day...

Note: The story below was a thing of my own imagination and my imagination alone, based on the story of the website. And I'll be posting more if I find the time. Without further blah blah from me, here is the story.

It was a normal day, as far as normal superhuman days go. I just came back from a mission in a Nemesis controlled dimension helping the local resistance. My sabre was dirty and my costume was stained too. Under the oil and dirt of a days hard fighting, I decided to take a shower at the Ascended base. After which I started to work on some new ideas. I found a few bits and pieces here and there. I could possibly use a new vibration cell in my sabre to increase the damage or a small radiation implant to improve my healing factor. I couldn’t decide at the time. I was just about to slip into my labcoat, when the base shook and actually tilted. That was impossible, the base is build in a pocket dimension and nothing could affect it. “Unless…”, I thought, “a massive dimensional shift… The last time that happened… That couldn’t be true.” I went to the observation room and checked the supercomputer and the monitors that were streaming the news. Every alarm was flashing red and howling now. The monitors were showing multiple buildings under fire. Several news networks were already in panic mode. I saw the Freedom Phalanx and hundreds of other heroes already fighting. Several reports of my Supergroup mates were coming in, most of them very scrambled. One of the screens showed the familiar axe of Tech Tower coming down hard. Another screen showed the well known clouds of darkness of Death Kiss consuming his foes. On a monitor on the left I saw even the Rogue Isles burning. Europe, Asia, Africa and the other continents were also fighting hard, all the world was at the highest Threat level. My heart longed to use a portal to Europe and defend my home country. But I made that choice a long time ago. One of the monitors switched to the medical room camera of our own base and the medpad was flashing. Puma came out all bloody and wounded. She only concentrated for a second and most of her wounds were gone. She tapped her communicator “D get your butt out of the lab and go fight”. She was already running to the base portal. I grabbed my best weapon regretting I couldn’t make the last adjustment I wanted to make just a moment ago. I ran to the portal and jumped through. A few seconds later I arrived in the chaos. I gritted my teeth.

“All right you Rikti Scum! My name is Dutch Barbarian and you picked the wrong day to mess with this city! Taste my steel, aaaarg!!”

The last thing I remember from those first few hours was flying in headfirst into the nearest group of Rikti with the blasts of several heroes, including Pumas’ darkness rays, at my back, with a slight smile on my face.

Thank you for the compliments. Here is part two. I'm still thinking about third part.

-----------------------------------------------------

“What a waste.” Was the first thing I thought after those faithful first hours, walking amongst the ruins of a collapsed building. My costume was torn and I lost most of my cape hours ago. The perfect white and gold of my supergroup was stained and smudged. My sword was covered in blood and was becoming dull. And I already changed my designer glasses a few minutes ago.

The hours before were a big blur of memories…

Me slashing a few Rikti troopers while executing a flawless circle, a dark nova performed by Puma wiping out several more groups of beasts. Tech Tower laughing, brandishing his axe and walking leisurely into the next group, shrugging of multiple hits. Myself blowing up the new gun sword of a Rikti boss, blasting him away and a few others with him. The feeling of one of Pumas’ heals after I jumped in to a group capable of doing damage even my healing factor couldn’t cure that moment. The chaos of bombs dropping around us, destroying everything around. Red Vision's illusion fooling a whole troop of those monsters, while others took them out.

Watching several heroes charging into the ranks of Rikti, blasting, holding, burning and slamming them down in a strange sort of ordered chaos. The sight of several tanks of the military and Vanguard being blown up underneath me. Watching soldiers die and heroes fall, filling me with grief. Listening to a battle report from the Arachnos. Even there the tyrant’s soldiers and villains where fighting for there lives. A skyscraper being blasted while several heroes were evacuating the collapsing building and the surrounding ones. Panicked civilians running while being chased by a score of Rikti Soldiers, only to be stopped by a few young braves. The not so gentle touch of a exploding Rikti drop ship right in my face, thinking, “What else is new?”

I still heard the blasts and fighting in the distance, while I was walking in a zone temporarily clear of invaders. I saw soldiers, civilians and even supers hiding and resting underneath the bridge nearby. A few familiar faces were with them. I saw several medics going around lending their aid. I checked my body and saw that most wounds were already healed. One of the kids walked towards me, with big blue blurry eyes she looked at me and handed me a bottle of water, which I gratefully accepted. The kid said: “Mister hero sir, are you gona stop the baddies?” I stared into the distance and answered: “I don’t know kid, but I damn well do my best.” Then I yelled: “All right, any heroes want to take on the Rikti again? The fight is not over. It’s time we take our city back and this time, we make sure it stays ours!” Most of the soldiers and heroes cheered. A couple joined me and when we took off, I looked back and saw the kid still standing there with new hope in her eyes. I promised myself I wouldn’t forget the kid and look her up when this was over. The city needed saving and the heroes were the last line of defence…

Excellent character development! I read this story last week and wondered what could be next - this could go on for a while and if you keep writing them like this, I'd delight in reading all of em!

That last part kinda makes me wanna RP my character into replying - Excellent stuff!

Thanks for the compliment and I'm still trying to think of a story for a third one (maybe more even). I do have something in mind but noting final.

That's not a bad idea actually, maybe a start of a new thread or incorporated in this story.
You could send me a PM with the response of your character and I can work it in maybe. (Along with powers/description/character) Tho teaming with someone gives me more of a character sense. (The people I described are SG mates)

I invite others to do the same off course I would love to work on that.
