Robberies, muggings, car jacking even murder are very common in this city. You learn not to look at it. No way you can do anything about it as a citizen. Ive always admired the way the heroes, like my sister CJ deal with situations like that. Dive right in and save folks. She was a great example for me from a young age, ever since that strange man decided to train her. I observed a lot off her training sessions, even tried to mimic them when I was younger. I wasnt supposed to though. The odd time I was got caught spying, they made me regret it and make me be extra careful the next time I was. And the times I tried those moves, lets just say I always seemed to end up on the floor rubbing whatever body part hit it first. Yes, my sister had all the brawn in the family. Freakishly tall and with a healing rate to match her height, I, I go stuck with the brains. And that Gargantuan sister off mine doesnt make it any easier by constantly pointing that out to me. Mostly by throwing me against walls or something the like, having a hero for a sister isnt half as fun as it might seem.
Anyway. This was supposed to be my story. And I find its always best to start at the beginning. So here goes.
I always take the same way to school. I learned the routes where the least thugs hang out. Schools dont care that youve been hold up for fifteen minutes while some thug takes all your cash. Also Tardiness doesnt sit well with my parents. And this morning I saw her. She looked so gorgeous. I couldnt help but stare. She walked round a corner and I followed, my heart pounding like crazy. I know she lived near Atlas statue. She always took the light-rail to school. She went round another corner; I saw it happen in my mind. Hellions found her. I guess I should have praised some kind off God that it werent those freaks with the walking corpses. But back then I didnt pray. I hadnt the need yet, nor the desire to do so.
One off them carried a machine gun. Two had knives and one a baseball-bat covered in dried blood. Hand over your purse [censored] one off them screamed at her threatening her with his knife. From the back the thug with the club reached for her skirt. He used his club to raise it a bit before she pulled her skirt back. The guy with the machine-gun had a mask on and was scanning the area for trouble. My stomach turned in on itself and I almost lost my breakfast. Not her I thought. What can I do? Wheres a hero when you need one. Maybe I can trick them. Maybe just maybe I can fool them long enough for her to get away. I looked through my pockets looking for anything that would convince these guys. All I found was a cheap pair off sunglasses I won at a fair last week. I put them on quickly. When I got to my inner pocket I noticed there was a tear in the inner lining. I should get this fixed. I first thought. My eyes went to the scene again.
The guy with the club had his hand on her skirt now. The one that was threatening her had her knife close to her face. And the one with the big gun was getting impatient. Just give us what we want and he wont cut you. I think Ive never had so much fear before that moment.
My hand still in the tear I made two steps when I noticed the masks the three others wore. I quickly tore as I walked towards the thugs. You idiot your going to get yourself killed. The piece was out and I began to run. My fingers worked quickly tying the knot behind my head. Let her go you punks I said. Trying to look like a hero posing with both hands in my sides. This had better work for her sake. My heart was racing and my stomach wanted to empty itself right there. It worked though; they forgot her and she crept away.
"Get this fool." The guy with the gun said. Ive never felt so sick, never been that scared my whole life. The club went over my head. Instinct mustve taken over because I ducked. Quickly I launched a jab into his stomach. He kneed I blocked with both hands then floored him with one swipe. A quick kick to the head and he was out.
A short pause, the two wielding knives stood still looking at the machine-gunner. The last one raised his gun and fired a quick burst. The burst exploded on the wall behind me. A quick thought made me go for the gunner. I slapped his gun up another burst went straight up. The two knives where slowly closing in from behind. I kicked to the gunners head and turned quickly. The first one tried to stab, I grabbed his arm and twisted the knife out his hand. Before it hit the floor I kicked backwards to hit the gunner square in the chest. The second knife slashed I jumped back and he missed. While I jumped back I pulled the first one with me and after I landed I kicked him in the chest and hit him in the head. He hit the floor and wasnt going to get up any time soon. The gunner fired another burst this time I stepped towards the knife-wielding thug that was still up. I heard the rattle off bullets hitting the building. I faked a kick and the thug responded by moving his blade towards me. I countered and hit him on his arm, hand and chest in quick succession. Then I kicked in his side he fell to the floor. I turned towards the gunner. He held his weapon ready to fire. A moment passed. We stared at each other. I saw fear in the eyes behind the mask. Im not going to The Zig. He almost cried. I kept silent remembering she was still nearby. He fired I dodged left, right, down all directions and none off the bullets hit its intended target, me! I walked closer and each step I took he tried making one backwards. I was quicker. He fired another burst. I saw him squeeze the trigger and had time to react. I stepped forward punched his chest before he could fire. When his trigger was pulled I was behind him and. We stood back to back. I could feel his chest exhale large breaths. He was terrified. I whispered. You picked the wrong target today. I hooked my foot to one off his legs and leaned back. He fell with me following. He landed face down with me on his back. Just before we hit the floor I used the momentum to roll over him. I stood up right next to his head and kicked it. He was out to. Guess all that spying on your sister finally paid off.
Its over you won. I thought it truly was. But I was so far from the truth thinking that.
I looked down on the group I just beat down. That makes no sense Im supposed to be down. I was only making time to get her out off this. Brenda! Thank you so much, youre my new favourite hero. I turned to her voice. She looked a bit shook but other than that she looked as amazing as ever. I never could speak to her; she made my voice lock in my throat. I was so glad I had the mask on that moment because my mouth was wide open. She was staring right at me with those eyes off hers. I thought off what a real hero would do. I saluted and went down the alley the thugs had come out off. Now thats great moron you had a real chance and you go away. My god you even saluted her. Who on earth does that? I walked round a corner and stopped, leaning against the wall. I grabbed my glasses and wanted to put them in the inner pocket. Now I really need to fix it. I thought as I saw the gaping hole in my coat. Dads going to skin me alive, its only two months old. In a vague attempt to cover the hole I untied the rag and held it where it used to be. Like thats going to help. I rolled the glasses in the rag and put the package in another pocket. I quickly looked at my watch. Great perfect record squashed as well how did I manage to [censored] off mom and dad at the same time. I better get going or they wont let me in first period. Thats a test I really cant miss. I started walking towards the building. It was still a few blocks away but I didnt hurry, running people are easier targets. Man I hate that miss. Adrienne she thinks she knows everything. Can I help I just dont care how I spell a word? I got in just before the extra five minutes where over. Of course she singled me out. I got in right before Brenda but she had to make an example off me. I hate when teachers do that. I cant help it Im smarter than most off the others. I cant help it I hardly need to study.
In between classes I heard Brenda talk about what happened before school. She praised the hero, me, like he was send by the faiths just for her. She even calls him attractive. I wonder what she would have said if she knew it was I? I guess Ill never find that out. Im not going to run around the city like those other heroes. Its just not for me. God can you imagine me in spandex. I almost cracked up when I thought off that one. I sniggered. I was walking right behind the girls, and Brenda had just said what her hero looked like. She looked at me like she was trying to kill me just looking at me. Now I think off it how come she didnt recognise me? I mean Ive worn the same jacket for two months. Im still wearing the same pants as I did when I saved her and she had just described my shirt and thats in plain site right now! I spent most off the day thinking about it.
Back home I couldnt bear telling anything off it to mom and dad. And when I fell asleep I dreamt off these mornings events. But after it instead off walking away I took off the mask and she leapt in my arms to kiss me. In mid kiss I woke up. I took a cold shower ate quick breakfast and headed for school. This time I just bee-lined for school forgetting my safe path. On the way there I saw a mugging. And with hardly any thought I put on my glasses and tied the piece off inner lining in front off my face.
