This is the tale of the brother of Acenra, who had decided to take up permanent residency in Paragon City. This story takes place ten years after the defeat of Shadow and the destruction of all dark magic along with the Netherworld.

Amidst the urban chaos which is Paragon City, there are heroes and villains; the good and the bad, The Light and the Dark, the Pure and the Evil. Everyone thinks that when there’s nothing to do, the heroes generally have a good time. And they would be right, if they don’t count one little bowman in Steel Canyon.

Archer was his name, and if you wanted to know what he was like, then think cold, hateful and misunderstood. He had a brother, only a year younger than Archer and was having the time of his life with his new wife in California. The 28 year old hero was used to this ever since the age of 10, after the massacre of his family. He had no friends in the city or back in England. He was generally a lonely guy.

Archer sat on the corner of a skyscraper, perched like a sleeping gargoyle. His dark green robes making him almost invisible in the abyss of the night sky. His quiver shuddered in the wind, making his arrows rattle. His cold, unforgiving red eyes scanned the streets for villainous prey under his hood that hid his face in a shadow

“Looks like another calm night” He whispered to himself, his voice deep and intimidating, missing any emotion.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a skull running for his life and behind him was a hero in hot pursuit. He disliked the helping of others, but this hero looked like she was really struggling. Quickly pulling the string back on his bow, he fired an ice arrow that whistled through the air. He watched it tear the air for a few seconds before it encased its target in a block of ice. Archer thought that he should get his arrow back, so he sprung off his perch and did several graceful flips before landing on the ground below him completely unscathed

“That was amazing!” the other hero complimented

“Thank you, it was a run of the mill thug and an easy shot to take” Archer dismissed, pulling out the arrow from the ice block then re-attaching another ice capsule to the head

“Are you British?” the woman asked in amazement

“Is there anything wrong with that, kid?” Archer demanded in an icy tone

“No! No! No!” the woman answered, hurriedly “it’s just, not many British heroes have gone through here”

“I gathered” the bowman replied

“My name’s Bow” the hero stated “ever since I picked up a bow on my twentieth birthday, I wanted to be a hero, and for five years I’ve been looking for a mentor, I just haven’t been looking in the right place”

“Before you ask it, yes, I’ll be your mentor until you get your accuracy in check, and with my teaching that won’t be long. Just follow my rules and stay on my good side.” Archer ordered “meet me in atlas tomorrow and we’ll get registered” his orders, even though charitable, were said in a way so cold; you could use it as a fridge.

“Ok, thanks! Uh… sir!” Bow responded, saluting

“Good girl” Archer complimented “now get some rest, remember my orders” he clapped his bandaged hands and in a flash of powerful green light, disappeared from the spot on the street

“Do you think he’s cool?” Bow asked to the skull

“I think I’m gonna be sick” the skull groaned from the ice block, getting nauseous from the show of friendship and justice

“Ah, who cares what you think” the hero dismissed, leaving the thug to freeze.

The next day, Archer leaned against the left boot of the atlas statue, looking at the other high ranking heroes in disgust. He disliked anyone like that, he didn’t want to commune with heroes who are more childish than hero.

“Shouldn’t you be getting back to work?” Archer asked

“Come on Archer, can’t you be a kid just for once?” one quizzed

“I haven’t been a kid since I was ten” the bowman stated

“Ah, who cares, loosen up some time in your life kay?” another suggested

“Whatever” was all Archer said before he went towards the town hall.

“Yo, Archer!” yelled the local speedster

“Hello, Synapse, what do you want now?” Archer asked, rather annoyed

“I got a letter for you, for some reason, they decided to give it to Manticore, so the red guy told me to give it to you personally” Synapse explained, handing Archer the red envelope

“Thank you, here’s an influence coin for your trouble” Archer said, handing the speedster a small blue coin

“Thanks! I’ll tell Manticore you got the letter.” Synapse assured, before speeding off to Brickstown. Archer tore open the envelope and read the letter inside. He grinned for the first time in weeks as he read that Acenra and his wife are back saving the big city in California. He liked to see that his little brother was having a better life for once since he fulfilled his destiny and was still alive to see the results.

“I should visit him sometime” Archer whispered

“Visit who?” Bow asked

“Huh? Oh, my little brother” Archer explained quickly. He was talking to thin air, but that air was visibly filled when Bow appeared from her invisible cloak

“That’s cool, shall we get registered then?” Bow asked

“Yes, lets go” Archer answered. They walked inside and filled out all the forms.
