No work around that I know of. You'll have to find another map or do without that detail.

Make the escort and ally instead of an escort ...that's what I did at least.

The forest maps I have tried all have the escorts goal as many yards underground by the mission entrance exit. consequently, the escortee never makes it to where he needs to go, mission never completes.
Is there a work around?
Or what?
