Getting weird glitches

Sometimes (but not always) opening the costume select window or clicking on contact text gives a weird "lock-up" in that the screen flicks back to a previous occurance of this effect in a freezeframe, but it can be easily solved with an alt-tab which brings everything back to normal, any ideas what might be the cause and the fix for this?
