I am working on character roleplay for my FIRE/KIN Controller. Inertius --- I like the roleplaying board and trying to add my creativity to the mix. Enjoy ---

Chapter One ---

(All this for a couple of lousy enhancements. I can’t even get steel salvage I need for creating ones I can use. Sigh…)

The sun was coming down over the horizon. The Hollows, an area connected to Atlas Park that consisted of gangbangers, trolls, and dark magicians, was falling into darkness. Not that any of that mattered to Inertius. As the last outcast fell, flames dancing all over his body, Inertius looked into the sky and admired the sunset. He couldn’t help but stare in awe at the big red ball that blazed the skyline.
Like the sun Inertius possessed the power of Fire Manipulation. A gift? A curse? Inertius had given up on figured out which one it was. He could do amazing things. Envelope criminals in rings of fire, create a blazing area of fire that escape was almost impossible, he could steal health and power from others and use it for his own, and he was fast…very fast. A fact that 5 outcast found out as they were terrorizing a woman. They wouldn’t make that mistake again.

“Very nice work”, said the tactical operational weapons enhancer (or T.O.W.E as Inertius called him). You just earned….

“I know, I know. You do not have to remind me. I will realize my full potential when I am ready”, said Inertius. “Stop keeping score”.

“I am not keeping score”, T.O.W.E pointed out. He looked more like an inside out clock with arms and a wheel connected where a robot would normally have legs. His rotary blades at the top of his “head” buzzing away at Inertius’ shoulder. “I am merely tracking your progress for future analysis toward threats that will enable you to anticipate future engagement and increase your power output for…..”

“I can melt you”, Inertius whispered.

T.O.W.E stopped speaking.

Inertius looked down at the Outcasts and tried to figure out the pieces of the puzzle that Flux had given him. He really didn’t trust Flux. Flux said he was “undercover”, but everytime he turned around, it seemed like the gangs knew Inertius was coming. Not that they could do anything about it. He was more than a match for the “regular” Outcast, but he knew that it would be only a matter of time before they sent the guns after him. He needed to finish this. “Flux said that the Outcast would be located in the old abandoned building somewhere is this vicinity. T.O.W.E, conduct a sensor sweep for unusual activity in this area.” Inertius hoped that his automaton would pick up something to aid him is his search. “There is a power source coming from that building 200 meters in from of us”, T.O.W.E replied. “How does that help us?” Inertius asked. “The building is not connected to a power source according to my analysis”, T.O.W.E stated.

“Well at least we have a fix. T.O.W.E, prepare offensive mode”, Inertius said.

It seemed that Inertius was given everything from the moment he was born and it was not far from the truth. He came from a family that wasn’t rich, but provided for him to be successful. His mother, a military medical officer, and his father, a contractor for the government, they made sure that he followed his dream of being an inventor. One day he was working on a science project when his mutant powers manifested. The doctors said he had Fire and Kinetic Manipulation. He found it intriguing that out of the hundreds of thousands of people that walked the streets, he was “special”. His natural curiousity helped him cope with his abilities. The only problem he has was the need to be more in control. That is where T.O.W.E came in. Along with the powers came the increased intellect to genius proportions. He constructed T.O.W.E to help with controlling his powers for more damage. T.O.W.E did his job exceptionally, but T.O.W.E became more than just his creation. T.O.W.E because his friend and confidant. It seemed ridiculous, but there were many things that seemed ridiculous in Altas Park --- zombies just for starters.

“Offensive mode activated”, T.O.W.E replied.

Inertius was not going to take any chances either. With his hands he made a gesture that brought forth flames shooting from the ground in a 10 foot radius from his body in all directions. With a sigh that this was going to be another run-of-the-mill mission, Inertius stood in front of the door and pushed hard. The door creaked, but gave way. “Fine. Let’s go”.

CHAPTER TWO ---

The building was in need of TLC and that was not going to happen anytime soon Inertius thought. Doors off hinges, broken glass, furniture in pieces, this place was where you would expect the Outcasts to call home. “I am not able to identify threats on the first floor” T.O.W.E said.

Inertius shook his head and thought, This is going to be a long day. In his mind there was nothing worse than going into a situation without information. Not to mention the information from Flux would be suspect, he could be heading right into a trap. “Keep trying to monitor movement and power fluctuations. That may give us an idea on the threats that we might run into,” Inertius replied. Although he was a loner, he really wished that he had a little back-up. It never hurts to have the controlling power of Ratav R’ia and Dueces. This mission would definitely be below their notice, but if things went south, they would be standing by to provide support.

As they started down the corridor, there was a shimmering light that beckoned them. As they moved closer, they saw an altar with candles surrounding a skull. The altar was the light source and standing before the altar were two outcasts. Clearly their orders were to guard the altar. That was all Inertius needed to know that Flux’s information was on the level. Inertius tried to listen in on the conversation. “….so I told Frosty that we needed to put this in a safer place. He says that “in plain sight” would be the best. He’s the boss so whatever”, the Outcast in the gray shirt said. His hands had a red aura , a sign that, according to Flux, signified that he had fire powers. “Well maybe we need another boss. I mean he may be the boss now, but what happens if the building goes up in smoke while he is sleepin’ or sometin’ like that” the other one implied. He had electrical sparks dancing between his fingers. “Better watch what you say. Frosty is not the man to be messed with”, the aura-handed outcast shook a fire-blazing finger. “It may seem like he does things “differently”, but he is still in charge. You need to remember that. Inertius had heard enough. He moved into the hallway and with flames blazing from his body charged toward the arguing Outcast. Once they were in his “Hot Feet” circle, the outcasts immediately turned toward their foe and started attacking, but by that time Inertius had “Siphoned” power from them, increasing his output and bringing them to the ground with relative ease. So much for “super” villains, Inertius said to himself.

“The Altar is composed of a material that I have never encounter before”, said T.O.W.E. this surprised Inertius because of two things: T.O.W.E was a robot and information was supposed to be available, and in his short time as a hero, he hadn’t considered that the Outcast had the ability to procure other-world technology. Flux never mentioned this. Once again, mis-informed. “Catalog for future analysis”, Inertius snapped.

They encounter more Outcast, but none of them had any powers. Inertius and T.O.W.E dispatched the groups and found nothing more on the first floor. “I am detecting similar signatures to the first two outcast we fought upstairs”, T.O.W.E said as he moved up to Inertius ear. “The next level will not be as easy”. Inertius rolled his eyes and muttered,”Mr. Obvious”. The elevator opened and lifted them to the second floor.

CHAPTER THREE

The elevator “ding”, singaling their arrival, was loud and as Inertius stepped into the hallway he has hit with a barrage of fire and ice bolts, plowing him into the wall. T.O.W.E remained inside the elevator and tried to fire back at an impossible angle for humans. “MASTER!” T.O.W.E’s voice sounding less like a scream but a radio turned up to its highest level. “Are you functioning?”

Inertius had problems answering T.O.W.E’s question, as he was trying to stop the missiles coming his way. “Yes!” Inertius yelled. “Change from offensive mode to support mode! I am going to need some help!” T.O.W.E’s main purpose was to augment Inertius’ power. The extra boost came in handy many times in previous battles. They say behind every good man there is a good woman, in Inertius’ case, T.O.W.E was worth his weight in gold. “I will comply”, T.O.W.E simply stated. At that moment Inertius started to feel strength flowing through his arms and legs, and the continual blast from the Outcasts didn’t hurt as much. In a matter of moments, the battle turned as Inertius was able to stop the Outcasts completely with his RING of FIRE, amplified by T.O.W.E’s support mode. As the Outcasts were immobilized, coughing, and gagging on the fire, soot, and smoke, Inertius SIPHONED off their STRENGTH and SPEED and continued his onslaught. Once a battle for Inertius’ survival, the Outcasts fell like dominoes.

Exhausted from the melee, Inertius had to rest. As he rested on one knee, he reflected on the past 6 hours. From meeting FLUX, his contact who was undercover, to kicking in doors, running around in claustrophobic caves, being shot at by supervillians, pummeled by baseball bats and hammers made of rocks, he realized that he was going to need to do some soul searching to continue this. Still no enhancements, he thought. Where is the justice?

As they moved through the second floor, more of the same resistance came from the Outcasts, but this time Inertius was ready and T.O.W.E remained in support mode. Methodically, they moved through each room and hallway, dispatching the Outcasts one by one. They finally found the elevator that would take them to FrostFire’s area of operations. “This area has meta-human energies that are off the scale. I believe we will find our enemy on the next floor and about 200 meters to the right”, T.O.W.E said. “Well, at least this will be over soon…one way or another”, Inertius said grimly. He pressed the button, the elevator “dinged”, and they moved to the third floor.
