Any advice for slotting/enhs for a SS/INV tank

Hi,

I have been playing CoH almost 5 years, but never taken the IO stuff very seriously. I get distracted and make a new character about the time it starts becoming important. I have a much-loved SS/INV tank that I haven't played for a few years that think would be fun to try and boost. I have had a look through the forums and there is a lot of good general advice, but I can't seem to find advice aimed at a SS/INV tank per se.

Can anyone suggest any good player guides, or basic strategies for this powerset combo? I can probably scrape together 70 to 100 million between my various toons to kick-start the process. I tend to play a very traditional "meat shield" tanking role - get aggro and hold it, heavy use of taunt.

Cheers,

Sib

Okay, the basic use of IOs I've seen for Invuln is to soft-cap typed defenses. How much investment this takes can vary based on how many you want to keep in Invincibility, and whether you take pool powers to boost the defense.

For SS, you'll want about 10%+ recharge bonus, which will put a 3 SO or 3 Lv.35 IO Rage at Perma. (Perfect Zinger 4-slotted in Taunt is a *very* cheap 5% recharge, and can be used with Invinc or an attack you don't mind gimping for damage a bit. Kinetic Crash in Hand Clap will give you 7.5%, or Stupefy 5-slotted in it will give 6.25%, both fairly cheap sets, though Stupefy is a *much* better slotting than KC if you actually wish to use HC.)

Generally the advice is to pursue typed defense for Inv, and perhaps regen percentage bonuses too. The best overall guide for this is CMA's softcap guide.

Many thanks for the prompt advice. It is appreciated. I look forward to adding to my meat-shield effectiveness.

I should add that I recently IOed out my own Inv/SS Tanker and I differed a bit from CMA's template. I found the entire exercise slot-hungry. I doubt it's possible to be all things; while I did hit (and slightly exceed, for padding against debuffs) the softcap on two of the three basic typed damage categories and come close on the third, I did so at some cost to my attacks, and at considerable cost in terms of giving up regen bonuses and forcing myself into certain power picks. Basically I looked for large set bonuses to typed defense from small numbers of slots.

Don't take that the wrong way -- I like the end result. But I couldn't go hog wild on everything and had to prioritize (which I think is the correct approach in game design, anyway).

Note you can use the little hourglass at the top of each column to sort the columns by bonus % or number of slots required, for example.

I did the same thing (but my build is sadly expensive). Need the pvp def IO, and that will be a while before I hit softcap on defense.

But I love the dual build.
I have my team super defense build, for STF, etc. I am an aggro monster that will survive, while my team defeats the foes.
I pursued defense/regen/hp mostly. For long av fights, lots of taunting, as I cant sustain a full blown attack cycle (nor do I need to)

My other build is more scranker, best for small teams, or as 2nd tank. Mostly for regen/acc (not that you need it as much with rage), end recovery etc. Everything to keep me in the fight the longest. I can (mostly) keep a sustained attack cycle forever.
