Defence and to hit debuff math question

OK, I have some mechanical questions about defence and - to hit debuffs

Lets start with this example, to see if i get defence right

I have 0% melee defence, 10% ranged defence, 0% Energy defence and 20% lethal defence.

If the person hitting me has a base of 75% chance to hit, therefore

A energy melee attack has a 75% hit chance
A energy ranged attack has a 65% hit chance
A lethal melee attack has a 55% hit chance
A lethal ranged attack has a 45% hit chance

Is this correct?

My second question is how does -to hit buff work on these figures.

Say I have a -20% to hit debuff on a target. Does that apply to their base to hit chance, or one modified by defence first.

Is it (tohit% - defence)/to hit debuff
or (tohit%/to hit debuff) - defence.

Cheers for any answers, i just seeking clarity (redoing my rad/rad build and it has the potential to get some good defence coupled with the -to hit debuffs)

First off, if you're talking critters, you've got the wrong base tohit. It's 50% for non-players.

You're also stacking defense types. It doesn't work that way. An attack will go against the highest applicable defense type. If it's a lethal ranged attack, it will use either your ranged or lethal defense, whichever is higher.

The other big problem you've got is that you're discounting accuracy, which is an end multiplier to the modified tohit score (base%-targetDefense+attackerToHit). There is a full write up on how everything works here. Suffice it to say that depending on the target's level in relation to you and their rank, they're going to get a higher multiplier to this number.

As to how tohit debuffs operate, they're exactly like defense with the exception that they're resisted by the target's level and other debuff resistances (like AV resistance). A 33% -tohit debuff against an even level enemy with no tohit debuff resistance is going to reduce the base tohit from 50% to 17%. However, the Purple Patch is going to reduce the effect of that debuff depending on how many levels lower than the target you are. Against Archvillains and other enemies that share their debuff resistances, you're going to see even less thanks to higher levels of debuff resistance.

Tohit debuffs factor straight in to the tohit part of the equation.

likelihood of power hitting you = (final tohit - defense) * accuracy

final tohit = base tohit + buffs - debuffs

Also, your defense numbers don't stack, you just use your highest value. So a ranged lethal attack would be at 55% tohit in the theoretical case.

Hitting them with a -20% tohit debuff is essentially the same as getting 20% defense to all, so would lower that 55% from above to 35%.

I feel I should note that in the vast majority of normal gameplay your enemy's tohit is going to be 50%

[edit]That'll teach me to spend more then a minute typing, there were no replies when I started! :P Some good info above me.
