Try running the game in safe mode (it's a check box in the updater). Your computer should be able to run City of Heroes, albeit not very well, as you're running on very low-end graphics hardware.
Thank you for the assitance, Doomlord. However, I have tried running the game in safe mode, & I recieved the exact same results.
I even used the -usetexenvcombine command line, hoping that might help the situation. But, it didn't.
I'm starting to think this isn't a graphics related problem (even if I have a low end graphics chipset).
I tried using the support network tool from the common problems thread, but every item that it tested came back with 'Access Denied'.
And I don't understand why. I forwarded the ports I needed open (using a Linksys WRT54GS), I manually allowed CoH & the Updater to be allowed through Windows Firewall...hell I even turned off the firewall to see if that would work. And still no luck.
It may be that the current RC of Windows 7 (which is still in beta) may have an issue with the CoX client. And while CoX uses OpenL for video generation, it still uses DirectX for sound; so again, it could be a DirectX 11 issue (again, remeber everything on the Windows 7 OS is still beta).
You could try and isolate it by disabling you soundcard entirely (although be aware that er-enabling afterwards may require you to completely reinstall and re-tweak you sound drivers); which would take DirectX out of the picture as a probable cause entirely).
But again, this is why it's Windows 7 beta.
Maybe then it would help to install DirectX 9?

I doubt there's a Version of DX9 that's compatible with Windows 7 - DX11 SHOULD be backwards compatible; but again, if you're using a beta; it's good to try and isolate issues before trying what I would call a bad workaround. Betas ARE to find compatability issues; so if it does turn out to be a DX11 issue; I would think BOTH Microsoft and teh CoX Devs would want to know so it can be fixed in the next Windows 7 release candidate.
If Windows 7 is like Vista, it's probably trying to 'skin' the game window. You need to tell it not to do that.
Right click on the CityofHeroes.exe icon, and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab, there should be an option to not render the window in Aqua mode. Select that, apply, then try again.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
Hello folks. New user here.
I have installed CoH/CoV on my brand new system, & unfortunately I cannot get the game to load past the 'Breakout' loading screen.
I have searched the forums/'net for a solution (DirectX issues, disable Windows Sidebar, etc), but nothing I have tried seems to work. I keep getting timed out at the same spot.
Am I missing something simple? Or is the game not playable on my comp for some reason?
