Rescue Captive problem

Guys I've a problem with this objective.
Let's say, for example, that I'm creating a mision where Malta agents have kidnapped some small thugs (like Hellions or Trolls) to force them joining their ranks and players must save them. If I try to add the captive the MA says me that there's an error because there's no overlap between the captive and the foes.
There's a way to solve this problem (which isn't to create a custom critter similar to the captive)?
