Fury the Eternal:A beginning (Story)
Ok people I'm trying this for the first time doing an idea I had for this character from years ago. Before they even created this game and I've only played COX and had him for a year. Any comments you have go on and post em, I'd enjoy the feedback.
We follow him as he leaps to the rooftops and races toward an as yet unknown destination; and now let us peer into his thoughts. We see many places, many of them seem to be alternate Paragons, some of these places are completely unknown. Through them all the same mystic signature he detected in the drugs is there.
"How can this be? I killed that @$%#! I had finally killed him." he thinks growling softly. "Not what I was hoping for on my return to this world after all these years." We see him remembering scenes of the past fighting alongside many WWII heroes. One battle in particular continues to plague him, a battle in which a woman he loved died fighting his enemy with him. He pursued this enemy through many worlds for many years...more than has passed here as time runs strangely in some of them. We witness the final battle that decimated most of the dark and horrible world where he caught up with him, it does indeed appear that he destroys his foe shredding his body and trapping his spirit in the place that they fought.
We leave his thoughts now, and see that he has reached his destination. This is oddly a S.E.R.A.P.H. installation that he enters by an open window. "Marcus, I need your help." he says in his chilling voice, so we are perhaps surprised when we hear the happiness in the voice that replies. "Fury, man you haven't been around in weeks" this comes from a young man, tall well-built and blonde, "Gramps has been asking me if I've seen you for a while he said he saw something you need to know about." "I may know what that is about, Marcus, but first you need to analyse this for my" Fury replies, handing this young man one of the injector-pens we saw him collect.
"Hmm, Well don't recognize that wierd logo, but I have heard of this 'Splice' stuff from a friend who works the rehab clinics."
"A friend? It's that girl isn't it?" Fury asks, the amused tone is very strange comeing from this daemonic voice. "Nevermind! I'm on it! And talk to Gramps,ok?" Marcus exclaims growing very red and quickly setting up equipment.
As Fury leaves he thinks of how odd it is to hear his old friend called 'Gramps'. The mans 'hero' name was Thornwind, and he and his grandson Marcus could pass as twins; not quite identical, but close to it. Thornwind was a mystic hero that had discovered his powers just before Hitler came to power in Germany and had quickly joined the fight against him, that was when Fury had met him; Fury had joined the fight because of signs that his ancient enemy was supporting the Nazi forces and because he had seen the horrors they were committing he had stayed, deciding if his enemy was there or not that the Nazi's must be stopped. Little had either realized that their friendship would last so long, for it seemed that Thornwind's powers had also made him unageing, he was now exactly as he had been the day they awakened.
He remembered the many battles they had fought and the evils they had destroyed, Thornwind had been the only one who had been told he was leaving the world of Paragon to go hunting his enemy who had fled through the alternate worlds. Now he had something he thought Fury needed to know, well it was the least that Fury could do to find out what it was. Now we see where he has been heading the train-station and on to Croatoa, where Thornwind lives and carries on his 'civilian' life.
"There you are old friend." says a voice that like it's owner was a twin for Marcus, " I needed to tell you...I've seen Scar and he's been talking to some supernaturals. Even hiring some werewolves and dark fae-types." "WHAT! &@#% this is not good news, Scar only works for his master, my old enemy."Fury's voice was full of rage, the shadows flowing around him striking and jerking in sympathy with his anger. "He was dead, Thornwind, dead and his spirit trapped. It was not even this world where it happened." "Well old friend you know as well as I do that he had plans within plans, you fought him for a long time before I was even born from what you've told me. Maybe he had a plan for if you did do him in."
We all, as these two do, start at the too loud sound of Thornwind's phone ringing. "Hello? Ah Marcus... Allright I'll tell him." putting down the phone and turning to Fury, "Well Marcus found out what that logo was and says that the 'Splice' you gave him is mostly a mild stimulant with a gene-splicing formula. The logo is for a 'MalDyne Inc', it's based out of Atlas."
As our mysterious hero races to Atlas Park let us jump to there and see what we can see at the offices of MalDyne Inc. It seems, as we move through the lobby, to be a typical office/labratory facility. However we begin to notice an almost sinister quality to the faces and voices of some of the scientists...and hear very strange sounds in the director's office, let's just see what that's about.
"Master we are working on the new samples as fast as we can, but I can't give you much good news on the new specimens...most of the test subjects aren't surviving the reaction." the oily voice of the Director says to a dark shape displayed in an oddly glowing circle suspended in the air behind his desk. "I have no care for your excuses, fool! You will find a way for the formula using the new specimens to work or you will find yourself a test subject and a new Director in your office!" this from a strange echoing yet rasping voice, like someone using a metal-file down a well. The circle of light disappears with a faint popping sound and the smells of dank earth and hot metal. The Director shudders and looks at a book held in a glass case in his office, almost a look of an addict stareing at his drug of choice when in the hands of someone they don't dare take it from. "I will find a way for it to work...and I'll find a way to free myself from you *Master*." the last word said with a sarcasam and hatred that would send shivers down the spines of any listeners(includeing us if we were embodied at the moment). He stalks down the hall towards the elevators and once inside uses a special key, that looks much like a flashdrive, that causes the elevator to go down to the true heart of the dark work of the company.
Massive devices and large tanks of fluid, some also holding humans/humaniods, are evident in many places around this cavernious chamber. Stopping to watch the work of several teams of the scientists working at thier experiments, he begins to calm (as we can see by the losening of his shoulders and the fact that his lips are no longer a bloodless line on his face). He orders one group to bring him all their data and bring in new subjects immediately, and they herd a shuffleing group of terrified and obviously confused people. These people are strapped to tables and readings taken before they are injected with a strange glowing fluid, most immediately start screaming in agony and quickly die, others seem to drop into a coma-like state. "It looks like this mix might give us a few successes. Good; monitor them and report to me immediately if there are any changes" the Director snaps out as he heads back to the gaurded elevators.
Fury sits in a smoky bar speaking quietly to the bartender, "Well that's interesting, you say the people have been disappearing from the streets for a few days. Keep an eye out, and if anybody has anything else send them to me."
He nods and drifts into the shadows, reappearing in an alley. He thinks about how the disappearances line up with the time that new recruits were being gathered in Croatia. "It looks as if they are trying something out...something new."
Eyes watch Fury from the alleys as he leaps from roof to roof, strange glowing red eyes. "He is back...good, I'll give him to the Master." rumbles a hollow liquid voice from the watcher.
Fury stops, something has caused him to become highly alert.
The darkness flowed, or maybe it was only deeper shadows shifting. A horrified scream splits the silence, preceding the sight of a woman running, horror etched into her features. Then the cause of her terror becomes evident as a...(pack is the only word that rises to mind as we take in their appearance and actions) of strange men chase her. The men have strange, almost animalistic, features. They appear to be a mixture of human and various wolfen attributes, only the one *howling* orders is fully inhuman; his body covered in fur where ever we should see flesh, his head that of a wolf and his hands bearing claws.
Then the darkness does *flow*, *oozing* into the pool of moonlight that the others have moved into. Following it is a figure dressed much as the ones chasing the woman are, all in black with a hood pulled over his head. (We have to wonder as we see this figure "What new danger follows now?"). However this new figure *leaps* forward, farther than anyone should be able to, and attacks the pack of men chasing the woman. Darkness and shadows flowing around him and striking at them even as his fists do. Shortly they lay battered and unconscious at his feet. Now we glimpse his face, as she does, when he looks at her and in a daemonic-sounding voice asks; "Are you alright Miss?". She gasps and we know why, his face is that of a *demon*: red skin, horns and a neatly trimmed goatee.
"I'm fine." she whispers; then she runs, frightened that he might start to come for her. He shrugs and searches the men finding on them several injector pens, each one bearing an odd logo and a name, Splice. He can sense the magic coiling within the drug inside the ones with anything left, and growls deep in his throat, he recognizes the feel of it.
