A supergroup, also known as the abbreviation SG, is a large guild or clan that all heroes can make upon reaching security level 10 (ten). The Supergroup Registration is located inside City Hall, which is located in the middle of Atlas Park. All supergroups are allowed a roster of at maximum 150 members, but some people prefer smaller rosters.
Picking a Supergroup Name
Alright, now you know what a supergroup is and what it does. It is time to choose a name for your SG. Any name is allowed, but any name that breaks the EULA is not allowed and will result in punishment from the City of Heroes moderators.
Many SGs have very creative names. Others have simple names. Some have names with random names. I tend to see more success in the SG the more creative the name is, but some very simple names have even come a long way. Also, keep in mind it is completely YOUR CHOICE when it comes to your SG.
Supergroup Motto, MOTD, and Description
Well, you now have established you SG name. Next comes some of the details. These are optional, but seem to add some shine to your SG. First, your SG Motto. This is basically a saying that your SG goes by. It can be humorous, it can be serious Your choice.
The MOTD (Message of the Day) is a place you can place daily messages and reminders for your other SG members (When you get some!). It is a way to just directly get messages to your other members right when they log in. You, as a leader, will see it too the next tiem you log in.
The description section is for you to give a little information about your SG so when others look you up at the SG Register they will see your description. It gives you the chance to share a little about yourselves.
Supergroup Ranks, Rank Tiltes, and Permissions
Ranks have the purpose of giving your members something to work for. Ranks give people special permissions such as base editing, inviting others, kicking others, taking from the SG storage, etc.
Rank titles are used so you can personalize what you what yourself and your members to be called. There are generic titles already in place, but you can erase them and change them any way you want.
Permissions, as I said, are so you control what your members can control. You can choose to give the lowest rank no permissions, and give the rank closest to Leader all the permissions. I suggest not giving Co-Leaders just as much permissions as you You should restrict some activity so even Co-Leaders can try to work for leader status. Or Be like me and only have one leader; Yourself.
Supergroup Colors and Emblem
Now you are ready to pick your SG Colors and Emblem. These both will affect all SG members costumes when they enter SG Mode (SG Mode is brought up later in the guide), so choose some good colors to match your SGs style. The emblem is like an insignia for your SG. You can choose from several different patterns of stars to a heart, or even a number or letter! (A generic Emblem and colors are picked for you at the start).
Recruiting
Well, you have your SG established! Now it is time to get some members in your SG. (Some people prefer to just have one person SGs, the only member being themselves. If you are one of those people, ignore this section of the guide).
To get the word out about your SG, post it on the Forums and other websites. Also, you may broadcast a specific SG Advertisement in City of Heroes. Try to make this ad sound very convincing, and bring up some topics about your SG that are unique.
One of the building blocks while building a SG is its members. Everyone wants friendly members to have fun with. A way to do this is set up individual interviews with each member, or ask your members before inviting them. Many people do not like these things called Blind Invites. Blind invites get you ignored very quickly, and not many people like to cope with them. To give a blind invite means to send a team or supergroup invitation without asking them to join before hand.
Another good idea is to make sure your supergroup is active. Activity is a key factor when it comes to supergroups. You dont want players that havent been online for months. You want to get players that are online daily. In my personal supergroup, the Empire of Dawn, I set a ten day inactivity rule. Any member that is inactive for more than ten days gets kicked out of the SG.
Now, understand there will be people that have issues come up and cant be online a while, but have them tell you before hand. If you know they will be offline for a month, that is fine Dont boot them. Instead, just leave them and they will return when they are possible.
Also, for every member you recruit into your SG, you will gain a 20,000 prestige bonus. This will only be gained for the first 15 members of your SG, then you wont get the bonus anymore. You will alos lose prestige if you have 15 or less members and one quits.
Supergroup Mode and Prestige
Supergroup mode was mentioned earlier in this guide; during the SG colors and Emblem section. SG Mode is entered manually by each member. To enter, type /sg_mode or open the Super tab on your chat window and look in the top-right corner. There will be a button that says Enter SG Mode.
When SG Mode is entered, you will start earning prestige for your supergroup. Prestige is like money, and can only be used to build your base. SG Mode will not affect you until you are a higher level (30+). At that point, it will start to take away from your influence, and then after every level you will start gaining more prestige but less influence. After that, you will start gaining purely prestige. If you need influence, feel free to exit SG Mode for a while. Most supergroups give promotions in rank for earning a certain amount of prestige.
Starting a Supergroup Base
After a while, you and your SG will have racked up enough prestige to build a base of your own. To start construction on your base, talk to the Supergroup Register (The same person you talked to in City Hall when you first created your SG). He will give you the option of building a base. With a base comes some responsibilities, and to learn how to build a good base, please read Base Construction Forums.
Conclusion
Many supergroups rise, and many fall. Some are well known, and some never heard of. I wish you luck on your supergorup, my friend, and I hope this guide helps you and one day results in raising your SG to the top 100. Thank you for reading.
