The City Scoop

Holiday Memories

I'm trying to decide which 'thing' to do this year with the family
and I realize I've got a lot to choose from. Our standard plans involve going
to my dad's on Christmas Eve for the whole Christmas thing, exchange gifts and
dinner and such, come home, fire up the NORAD Santa Tracker while setting out
the cookies (oatmeal raisin this year, mmmm). Mom will come over to spend the
night; I don't like her being alone. Then shuttle the little ones off to bed
and start the dirty business of assembling everything. There will be no
regulation basketball hoop this, that had to be one of the coldest Christmas
Eves ever. No two desks and a bar. They're boys, they can assemble it
themselves, right?

Get up, slog some coffee and let the little ones go. Actually, not
entirely chaotic, some enthusiasm has to take over, but I don't want to duck
the wrapping paper toss again. I got hit in the face one year. Then the feast,
the biggest, southernest breakfast ever. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, gritz,
milk-sausage gravy, eggs, biscuits... everything, and more coffee for mom.

Then pile into the old minivan and head over a county to do it all
again at the in-laws. This always blows me away. She used to be a foster parent
and they had, at most, I think about 24 kids one year. The living room was a
sea of presents. They'd start opening in the morning, take a break for
breakfast, go back to opening, break for lunch, opening, dinner and still more
opening. It'd last till midnight sometimes. But they've cut back on what they
can do, both with fostering and with spoiling them. And, when you've got a kid
who's never really seen a Christmas tree, much less a present just for them,
you spoil them a little.

A few times, hubby and I did the deliveries for the foster
program, driving to drop off locations and taking the gifts to some of the
foster families. That was amazing. If you get a chance, I recommend doing that
if you don't have little ones. As in, really little ones. The whole thing is
kinda lost on the 2 year old but that might be something to do again when the
little ones are a tad older.

This year, we'll be driving down a few hundred miles to see my
oldest son. He's taking a course through a halfway house to straighten a few
things up before joining, I think it's the Marines this week he wants.

But what else? There's got to be something beyond the norm,
something that's just plain fun for everyone. The little ones are still too
young to accompany us to a toga party on Saturnalia (those are fun, a feast
with every kind of imaginable food and drink and sometimes a huge bonfire), the
last one was at a friend's home. I still have mine and hubby's black togas and
gold laurels. But that's not kid-friendly.

Oh! For a few years we were invited to a few Hanukkah parties. One
of the nights is usually set aside to invite friends and those are awesome.
Much like Saturnalia food-wise (huge spread!) but minus the togas. And the
older kids managed to get pretty good with a dreidl. One year, the Hanukkah
festivities coincided with a friend's birthday. Her husband hired a horse-drawn
carriage to take her and some guests for a hay-ride through Davis Island. That
was beautiful.

Some might not believe it, but the holidays can be a blast without
that nasty white stuff. Here in Florida, we find plenty of things to do without
that mess. Granted, it was cold as heck on that hay-ride. The winds blowing of
the Bay during winter get plenty cold for me. One particularly warm year, as a
child, my parents took me to Honeymoon Island to hunt sand dollars at the
beach. You just wade out into the water till you hit a sandbar and then scootch
your toes around in the sand until you find one. They crawl across your hands.
It was neat. Coincidentally, I learned that bleach can be bad that year.

Some years, we drive around to look at the lights on the nearby
homes. Some are fantastic. One year, we made a special trip to Dunedin to see a
house that had been decorated in CD's, hundreds of thousands of CD's. Mostly
the AOL ones that come in the mail. I guess they got tired of using them as
coasters. Oh but it was gorgeous. The guy had even fixed some together into a
big, disco like ball with lights pointed at it so that they sparkled that prism
looking thing. That was beautiful.

There used to be a home in Town and Country that was phenomenal.
People came from everywhere to see it. He had a Santa's workshop set up with
little animatronic elves toiling away while Santa slept (and snored) on a
little elf bed. He also had a three story train set with versions of the Polar
Express running simultaneously. Giant snowmen (styrofoam, I think, this is
still Florida) and a little village with a little winter carnival and 3 foot
tall Victorian dolls on the rides.

Victorian! Oh, there's the Victorian Stroll at Harbour Island.
That's another good one. All the shops in the Harbour Island mall decorate in
Victorian style, but with electric lights. Though that might be better for the
little ones in a year or so. I know my boys.

I could always go with a family tradition for the gifts, that's a
thought. See, every year someone gets "the big box" and there's no telling
what's actually in it. It's my dad's thing usually. He likes to prank. One
year, he gives "the big box" to his new wife, they'd barely been married a
year. That year, he used a refrigerator sized box and filled it with balls from
the tree that the cats had partially eaten, crumpled newspaper, an old sock...
oh she was in tears. He's telling her to keep looking, look under that stuff.
She finally found it; thank any god you want for that. She was about to kill
him, then she found the cruise tickets down at the bottom.

Oh, there should be a family friendly Solstice dance and dinner
somewhere. That might be good for everyone. This always seemed like a cross
between Christmas Eve present opening, a feast, and country line dancing.

It's too late this year, but a few times we've done the traveling
thing. Visited family in Virginia, Alabama, and Georgia... It gets cold in
those places. Like, snow and stuff. Hubby has an aunt in Alabama that lives on
a mountain. It's pretty but it's cold. It's also deer season right around then
so... maybe not for the little ones right now anyway.

So, weather depending, we might go to the beach, go on a Victorian
stroll, see some houses all decked out, crash a party or just prank each
other... what to do, what to do...

What are your plans and traditions?

Happy Holidays!

I'd like to thank the Art and Screenshot section for being so
festive! Over the last few days, I've collected a ton of Holiday themed
costumes from some of the most creative folks on the forums. Through out this
issue are the some of the ones I collected.

Content Watch

Events

“I haven’t seen you around here much. Get out on that dance floor
and burn it up!” -DJ Zero

“As a veteran of the Rularuu invasion, the first Halloween, the first Winter,
the first Valentine’s day...etc., etc., etc. They just keep getting better.”
-The_Zekiran

It’s this time of the year again where you need to buy gifts for
all your family and where you’ll be spending this weekend waiting at the mall
in a long line to pay for your last minute bought presents. The regular Content
Watch is taking a small break and we present to you this special holiday
edition featuring Special Events provided by the devs.

First, I must thank all of you that took the time to reply to my
thread. It took a while to start, but that was partially my fault as I lost my
home Internet access last week and due to a general lack of free time, but
that’s another story. You can follow and post your opinion
here
. I will surely find some time to read it and reply during the
holidays.

You can split the Events into two generic categories: recurring
event and one shot deals. Examples of recurring events are Halloween, the
Winter event, Valentine’s day and double XP weekends. One shot deals happen
according to the situation, like the Rularuu invasion with the introduction of
the Shards, the Statesman strike at the end of CoV beta, and the CuppaJo
goodbye party in Pocket D on the test server.

Recurring events always come back at the same period of the year
and, so far, bring something new from the previous year’s version. For example,
the possibility of exchanging Candy Canes for badge and temp powers in this
year’s Winter Event and the ski slope badges. Also in the Halloween event, NPC
costumes temp powers were added this year.

Shadow Fire wrote, “I love the events. They provide a nice respite from the
usual. The major turnout as players renew their accounts or just log in more
often really livens things up.”

That is true. You can expect to see many more players logging in during these
special periods of time.

However, JkevinCarrier wrote, “The Trick-or-Treat thing was clever, but I have
to admit the novelty kind of wore off after a day or two.”

Well that’s true, too. After you’ve gotten the badges with one character, it
can feel like a chore to get them on all your alts. Sure, the events are fun,
but it’s fun to pursue regular activities during that time like XP groups and
TF/SF, which can be harder to form because a lot of players are focusing their
attention somewhere else.

One time deal events are always big and popular. They get a big cover on the
forums and on the CoX website. They can lead to some truly memorable moments as
stated by Cipher and Diegokid on the Statesman Strike at the end of CoV Beta.
Still, my biggest gripe about these is that they are a one shot deal. If
you’re not there, you miss the fun.

Double XP weekend is also affected by a time constraint. Though it’s a
recurring event, if you cannot log in during the specific seventy-two hours
window, well you can’t enjoy the bonus.

Killobot5000 wrote, “I've enjoyed each Special Event that I've been a part of
over the last two years—Halloween, the Winter Event, and the community
gatherings like the Valentine’s Day party held in Pocket D.”

The best usage of a co-op zone is probably this since it does allow you to
reach more players. Too bad we can’t trade prizes between heroes and villains
for these occasions. I think the Paragon Dance Party was a bit better than the
actual pocket since it did cut the lag caused by powers. Adding this feature to
Pocket D and removing the player would be extra nice for huge gatherings so
nobody would feel excluded not being in Pocket D 1.

You cannot conclude an article on Special Events without talking about
player-made events. It can be the costume contest you hosted one day, or
something that’s been happening every week for the past three years (Tanker
Tuesday is one that comes to my mind), or something special organized by your
supergroup. These events are one thing in CoX that is holding the community
together and that makes this game much more fun to play than many other MMOs.
To all these events leaders and organizers, I say: Keep up the good work, and
we appreciate all the time you put into this.

The next Content Watch article will be about Heroside level 11 to 20. Still, I
think I’m going to take it easy for the holidays and wait a bit before posting
it. I know a lot of players will be busy visiting relatives and having too much
fun to reply to my absurdities. This is Plater, for the Content Watch, wishing
you all great Holidays and I hope to see you all in great shape next year.

Answers

A little over a three months ago, a group of people came together
and formed a players event resource committee—otherwise known as PERC. We are a
collection of players from every server, dedicated to enhancing the CoX
experience by helping plan, support, and run different player events on a
server wide and game level.

In all our ambition and wanting to get out of the gate, we ran a
little contest calling for the best dressed heroes and villains in game. This
was no ordinary under Atlas costume contest because the winners would have to
answer questions. The answers and costumes of all the finalists were judged by
all members of our committee and also Sexy Jay! Such as it was, the Mr./Ms
Paragon City/Rogue Isle Costume Contest was born.

We have had several requests to see the questions that the
finalists had to answer. We apologize for the delay, as there were some
technical issues surrounding retrieving them after the contest was over. The
questions were:

  1. What is your favorite hero/villain AT?

  2. What is your favorite thing about CoX?

  3. What was the design aesthetic behind your costume?

  4. If you could tell Sexy Jay, the costume designer of CoH, one thing, what would
    it be?

  5. You’re in this situation, how do you accomplish your objectives to these two
    scenarios:

  6. A cat is stuck in a tree—granny is calling for help! Tell me, what steps would
you take to rescue granny's cat? (for Heroes)

  7. You see a baby with a lollipop—he’s surrounded by adults. Tell me, how would
you steal candy from the baby? (for Villains)

[/list]

Without further ado, here are some of the more creative answers
that we received:

Dr. Aquaticus, question 5

First off, this was a difficult situation, considering the fact
that I am, in fact, a FISH attempting to rescue a CAT...but a true hero can’t
pick and choose his good deeds...

GRANNY: “Help! Help! Help me please!”

(Dr. Aquaticus appears in a shimmering flash of light, seemingly
from nowhere.)

DR. AQUATICUS: “Hello ma’am. My name is Dr. Aquaticus. How can I
be of assistance?”

GRANNY: “Oh! Thank God you’re here! My poor Sebastian is stuck in
this awful tree! Can you bring him back down to me, dear?”

DR. AQUATICUS: (looks up and gulps) “Your..cat...ma’am?...Sure...I
can help you.” (gulps again) “Please step back ma’am. I don’t want anything to
happen to you.”

GRANNY: “Thank you so much.” (steps back, but doesn’t take her
eyes off Sebastian) “Please be careful, dear. I would just die if anything
happened to him!”

DR. AQUATICUS: “Don’t worry, ma’am. I’m a superhero!”

(Dr. Aquaticus begins to use his super powers, creating a bubble
around Sebastian.)

DR. AQUATICUS: “This is a bubble-shield, ma’am. It is the
specialty of my people and will protect your cat from harm.”

(Dr. Aquaticus notices Sebastian’s attention completely focused on
him. And then Sebastian licks his lips a little bit. Dr. Aquaticus then quickly
begins to use his super powers again, creating a bubble around himself.)

DR. AQUATICUS: (whispering under his breath) “And this bubble will
protect me.”

(Dr. Aquaticus begins to telepathically speak with Sebastian.)

DR. AQUATICUS: (Telepathically) “Hello Sebastian. My name is Dr.
Aquaticus. Your granny is terribly worried about you. I can help get you down
from that tree.”

SEBASTIAN: (Telepathically) “Mmm...I smell tuna...do you have
tuna? I like tuna.”

(Sebastian’s eyes start to widen and he slowly climbs out on the
branch leading towards Dr. Aquaticus.)

GRANNY: “Oh my God! Save my
poor Sebastian! He’s going to hurt himself!”

DR. AQUATICUS: “Don’t worry, ma’am. I assure you, he’s perfectly
safe.” (Telepathically) “I am sorry Sebastian; I don’t have any tuna for you.
But I’m sure your granny has some tuna for you at home if you come down to
her.”

(Sebastian continues to crawl farther out on the branch and closer
to Dr. Aquaticus.)

SEBASTIAN: (purring) (Telepathically) ”Mmm...is that...you...that
smells so good?” (licking his lips again and starting to crouch down in a
pouncing stance)

DR. AQUATICUS: (hesitantly) (Telepathically) “I have given you a
bubble-shield. It will protect you if you fall. I’m going to help you down from
that tree and I promise that no harm will...”

(Sebastian leaps from the tree branch at Dr. Aquaticus, with teeth
barred and claws extended. Dr. Aquaticus instinctively activates a repulsion
field. Granny screams as Sebastian is suddenly thrust away from Dr. Aquaticus.)

(But, Dr. Aquaticus quickly uses his telekinesis to stop
Sebastian’s fall and gently push him into granny’s open arms.)

GRANNY: “Sebastian! You’re safe! Thank God! Thank you so much Dr.
Aquaticus! How can I ever repay you?”

DR. AQUATICUS: “No payment is necessary, ma’am.” (taking a
relieved breath) I’m glad your cat is safe again.”

(Dr. Aquaticus sees that Sebastian has recovered from the fall and
is again focused on him.)

DR. AQUATICUS: “Sorry, ma’am. But a hero’s work is never done. I
must leave you now. Good luck, and keep Sebastian safe.”

(Dr. Aquaticus quickly teleports away in a shimmering flash of
light; Leaving a cat’s growl and an old lady’s “thank yous” in his wake.)

Autumn Nymph, question 2

I could no sooner choose a single star in the heavens, but I can
tell you a favorite "down time" activity. One of my favorite things to do (when
not chasing the naughties) is sitting under the falling leaves in Perez Park.
The atmosphere is serene, and I love the fall foliage! The richness of the
environments makes me feel like I was home again.

Hell O Ween, question 5

Special Halloween Strike Force: The Candyman Can?

Strike Force: Bellicose

Mission one: Lumpa Dumpa Dobbledy-Dee

Description: "Okay, Hell O Ween...I understand you want to steal a
lollipop from “The Baby.” Well Halloween night is right around the corner, so I
have just the plan. As you know, the Goldbrickers supply all of the Rogue Isles
with chocolate for Halloween, so our first step is to poison that chocolate so
that everyone is forced to distribute lollipops. The chocolate factory is
heavily guarded by those frakish little blue-faced shriekers, the Lumpa Dumpas,
and to top it all off, you will most likely face the factory's foreman Vinny
Vonka. Good Luck...you're gonna need it."

Objective: Poison the Chocolate/Defeat Vinny Vonka

Completion: "Man, I heard what went down in there. Those little
Lumpa Dumpas just seemed to crawl out from the walls at ya. Well, at least you
managed to poison the chocolate. Now on All Hallows Eve, the only candy anyone
will get is lollipops."

Mission 2: Halloween the 13th

Description: "Bad news Hell O Ween. It seems that the shipment of
lollipops has been delayed. The city had a deal with a Camp Sparkle Lake to
supply the lollipops, but some crazed monster has taken the camp hostage. You
need to free those camp goers so they can ship the candy."

Objective: Defeat Michael Voorhees 10 times/Rescue 5 Camp goers

Completion: "Wow that guy just would not quit. He just kept coming
and coming. Well, at least that shipment of lollipops is on its way."

Mission 3: Candy from “The Baby”

Description: Okay, here it is...time to get that lollipop. Better
watch out, “The Baby” is always surrounded by his entourage of doting
followers, “The Adults” led by the dread “Nanny.” Once you grab that lollipop,
you better high tail it out of there ‘cause “The Baby” is gonna be so mad."

Objective: Defeat “Nanny” and guards/Steal Lollipop from “The
Baby”/ Defeat “The Baby”

Completion: "Yeehaw, you did it. I gotta hand it to you, Hell O
Ween. Taking candy from “The Baby” is not the easiest thing to do."

Rewards: Badge: Snidley Whiplash (You are truly “tie a damsel to
the railroad tracks” evil.)

Souvenir: Soggy paper stick (This wet, half-chewed paper stick is
all that remains of the lollipop you stole from “The Baby.”)

Santa_Claws, question 3[/B]

I get a lot of heat about having very little covering for my
nether regions. Okay, let me set something straight: I'm not the one who leaves
fireplaces on, got it? Those brats did it. They burn off my clothes, and now I
have a constant draft. Since I ate my wife, she can't make me anymore clothing.
So, now I'm stuck with no elves (eaten), no wife (eaten), and I have an
irresistible urge to destroy the lives of all who cross my path. There isn't
enough time to wash the blood off my hands and feet, much less go shopping at
the Goodwill for some new pants.

Our congratulations to all the winners of the contest, and we look
forward to working with you again!

By Popular Request

This is the eleventh in a series of By Popular Request articles,
which reviews commonly requested player suggestions that have strong positive
support, and reviews the implications and considerations that would need to be
considered if these suggestions were to be implemented.

This week’s subject – New Defiance:

Ever since the archetype inherents were added to all heroes, the
blaster inherent has been the source for substantial discussion. The merits of
the old Defiance inherent were matched against numerous alternative ways to
provide blasters with a benefit. One of the most common suggestions for
changing Defiance was to make it more like the Brute inherent, a damage bonus
that increased as you did damage, rather than took damage. This new form of
Defiance is ultimately the one the Devs decided to use when changing Defiance
into its new form.

New Defiance provides blasters with two new buffs. One is short
duration damage increases after attacks, allowing blasters to increase the
damage they deal as they deal more damage. The other advantage is that several
low tier attacks in their primaries and secondaries can be used even when under
the effects of some form of status effect. These two changes replaced the old
form, in which a Blaster would have a to-hit and damage bonus when the Blaster
was below full health, with a larger buff the closer they got to defeat.

Although some people may prefer the old form of Defiance, or
believe that the buff is actually too strong, most players can agree that the
new Defiance is a better inherent than the old Defiance, as it encourages
blasters to make smart decisions about their own safety, while also encouraging
the use of their powers in the most natural way.

While there are a number of different threads in several different
sub forums, probably the best place to look for what players think of new
Defiance is to check out
the Blaster sub forum.

Base Showcase

This week we we have a look at a couple larger hero bases on Infinity and
Freedom.

The Freedom Phalanx Reserve

Who is your base designer and who are your supergroup leaders?

Leader and designer Dark Tower. Global @Nevermore

Which server is your base on?

Blue side Infinity server

When was your supergroup established?

January 2006

How many players are in your supergroup?

It changes from month to month, but anywhere from fifty to seventy-five right
now. We’re looking at expanding now that i11 is out

What is the approximate value of your base?

Somewhere in the 36 million prestige range.

How much time do you spend working on your base? How much time
have you invested so far?

When I get the base editing bug and decide to redo the base, I could spend two
or three hours a day working on it for several weeks. From then on, I’m always
looking for little ways to tweak it to make it look better, adding some more
detail or what not.

What is your favorite base item? Least favorite?

It’s hard to say if I have a favorite or least favorite item as rooms go; my
favorite would be the Night club called Club Dark Revelation.

What is your favorite thing about base editing? Least
favorite?

Mostly, I like the building and coming up with new ideas or using other
designer’s ideas in my own way. I like trying to make it look as good as I can
within the limits of the game. What I like least is just that the limits that
game places on you to make raiding possible even when there is no real raiding.

If you could give just one piece of advice to a new
base-editor, what would it be?

Take your time, plan out your design and keep the functional area close
together, like med bay leading to the teleporters and the storage areas so
people can make a quick run to get to and from where they need to go.

Anything else you'd like to add about your SG, your base or
the base system in general?

Just that if anyone is interested in seeing more of the base or would like to
join us or know more about us, please visit our

The Infinity Legion

Who is your base designer and who are your supergroup leaders?

Powershift, Flamerator, and Lady Katherine. Powershift (CaptA in forum) is the
designer.

Which server is your base on?

Freedom, Heroside

When was your supergroup established?

July, 2005

How many players are in your supergroup?

About thirty, but really four players

What is the approximate value of your base?

29 million

How much time do you spend working on your base? How much time have you
invested so far?

Not too much. Over the life of the base, I would say a few hundred hours at
least. It has changed a lot in the last two years.

What would be highest on your wish-list for new base items?

Tons of new decorative items (mostly the ones already present in missions) and
a means of partitioning rooms without taking up whole blocks of space.

What is your favorite base item? Least favorite?

My favorite is the Auto-doc. It buys, it sells, it makes Julienne fries! My
least favorite would be anything defensive. The entry cost for any of the
defensive items is just too high and limitations on placement too strict.

What is your favorite thing about base editing? Least favorite?

I like details, as anyone that visits my base could tell you. I like making the
base look like someone would actually live and work there. Least enjoy? I hate
the finicky nature of the raid pathing issues, as well as the lack of an “undo”
or means of hanging onto crafted items when you need them removed temporarily.

Least: Raid rules, of course. Nothing hampers a designer's style quite like
raid rules.

If you could give just one piece of advice to a new base-editor, what would
it be?

Get to know the folks that frequent the Base Construction forum and take
advantage of their experience. There are a lot of cool things you can do in the
editor, but the process can be confusing. The people that enjoy the base
editing system tend to be very helpful.

Anything else you'd like to add about your SG, your base or
the base system in general?

Don’t be afraid to start a small SG and build your own base. Take the time to
learn what can and cannot be done with the editor and get creative.

Art

Artist Spotlight

Graver

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I originally began collecting odd things for a series of still
life paintings I was working on but after about twelve or so, I got a bit
blocked up in that regard. Just as a means to clear my head and block, I
painted my main character which opened the flood gates. A few requests for art
later and I found my self taking commissions... which has turned into something
a lot bigger then I had ever thought it would at the beginning.

Beyond all that, what else can I say? Well, I'm a 32 year old
slightly anti-social (but not in the "I can't feel antything outside my self so
I'll skin you and put your toes in a jar" kind of way) semi-professional
artist. I'm not entirely sure if I'm professional or not. I live off of my art
but thinking of my self as a professional just seems a touch off, like that
thing I'm still working on attaining. Some day, though, I will be a
professional... probably right around the time I grow up I reckon.

What inspired you to start drawing?

I think my mom did. I've always drawn or colored from as early as
I could remember, but then who didn't? However, my mom always went nuts over
anything I did and it always ended up on the 'fridge. I took to this and used
it as an excuse not to have to run around or do other things of a more
exhaustive nature... I'm sure that if I had a modern game system back then, I
would have just played video games instead.

Granted, through practice, I reckon I got half way decant. When I
got older, it just got hammered into me that art was what I was supposed to do.
I didn't have the coordination or body mass to pull off any kind of sports, my
social skills were abysmal, and my attention span for things of a scholastic
nature was less then stellar. That and art got me out of a lot of bullies
beating lists (a drawing of a naked lady straddling an f-14 will get a kid out
of a lot!). Due to an inability to really do much else, it simply became that
thing I did. It slowly evolved from that thing I did into the only thing I
wasn't a total screw up at, and from then on, I was pretty much stuck with it.

Which mediums do you use for your art? Which are your favorites?

I've used a lot of different mediums from oils to pen and inks.
However, recently and for my CoH work, I've primarily stuck with a mix of pen
and in and watercolor, though there have been some experimentation's with
mediums from piece to piece. In the end though, I've come to find that the best
results (or at least what I like using best) is a mix of watercolor and
Prismacolor Fineline Markers (mostly black and sepia with the occasional other
color worked in) on 300 lbs. hotpressed watercolor paper.

Recently, though, I've started branching out into the digital
realm. I started with some simple drawings that were then colored digitally to,
most recently several full blown digital paintings (which haven't been added to
my site as of yet due to a slight non-disclosure agreement... soon though,
soon). I'm now very excited about the possibilities of the digital medium and
what can be accomplished with it.

I used to do a lot of oil paintings but eventually stopped due to
a mixture of reasons. Paramount among them was the simple time consuming nature
of the process and the shear amount of commitment a single piece demanded.
However, I've finally been able to achieve the same look, same quality (well,
even better in my opinion) then in my oils and you can bet that there will be a
lot more digital painting coming out of me in times to come.

What's your best experience as an artist? Worst?

Oh, that's a tough question.

Art for me is a package deal, it's all bad and good at the same
time... it's art. Experience-wise, it sucks sometimes, it's elating other
times. Hell, finishing out a piece that turns out better then I had expected is
one of the best highs I've ever had. At the same time, the process of trying to
make the piece and just the reality of living as an artists has caused me some
of the greatest stress and oh so wonderful wish I were dead depressions as
well. It's a package deal and it's really hard to sift through it all and pull
out one event and say it was good or bad without the rest tagging along with
it. However, if one event does come to mind as one of the best...

It was a simple little thing. An autumn morning back in 2001 while
I was walking back to my duplex from the painting studio after a bottle of wine
and an all night painting session. I was on my second month in my first
painting class ever. Before that time, I had hated painting with a passion, and
through most of the class, my opinion did not change -I just couldn't ever make
it work.

As far as I was concerned, I was never going to be any kind of
real artist and had given up on that idea. I was going to school pursuing my BA
in graphic design. I figured it was kind of artsy and I stood a decent chance
of making a living off of it. Prior to that morning, I had produced one half
way decent painting. That night, though alone with a bottle of wine, the paint
fumes, and four Wumpscut CD's it all clicked together for me. I finally
realized a method of painting that worked for me and I went to town with it.

Walking home the next morning, it just struck me; I was a painter.
I had just spent 13 hours breathing it in, cursing and scrubbing at a canvas,
and I, bleary eyed and high on the fumes, drunk, or tired (or some combination
there of) was dragging my [censored] home to maybe get five hours of sleep
before repeating it all... and I loved that idea.

That realization that I was doing something I never thought I ever
could and, not only that, but loving it to such an extent was one of the best
feelings I can remember. I knew that I had to give it everything I had from
that point forward. About a week latter, I had switched my major from a BA with
an emphasis in graphic design to a BFA with an emphasis in painting.

Who has been your biggest influence, artistically speaking?

That's another tough one. So many people have influenced me in so
many small and subtle ways but, as far as direct meddling in my artistic type
development, I think I would have to say that honor belongs to my former
illustration instructor, a very talented artist and possibly the nicest guy in
the world, an artist by the name of Roger Bowman. It's because of him that I'm
a painter now and not a graphic designer.

Prior to the above mentioned event I was sitting in illustration
class doodling away in my sketchbook and idly listing to conversations around
the room. He was talking with another student about a series of drawings he had
once did with burnt umber oil paint. That one statement stuck with me and got
me thinking... drawing with paint as opposed to painting. That night I went
into the painting studio to experiment in ways to "draw with paint" and came
out 13 hours latter elated, tired, and with the full intent of changing my
major and direction.

Beyond that innocent mentioning on his part though, he stayed the
one faculty member that, aesthetically, I saw eye to eye with. He introduced me
to a lot of artists that remain some of my favorites to this day and was
responsible for my obsession with the still life that came later.

Who are some of your favorite artists and what is it about them
that captures your eye?

Good god, there's a LOT! My tastes run all over the place changing
and shifting based on my mood. I don't know if I could really be said to have a
favorite artist or set of artists. What thrills the hell out of me one day will
pale in comparison to something I find the next. I think it's mostly due to the
fact that I tend to be drawn to anything I'm having trouble with or find
difficult to do my self. When I see it, I become enamored by it and usually
remain so until either I figure out how to do it my self or my attentions shift
and I become obsessed with some other aesthetic problem.

When you're drawing, do you have music/television/movies on in the
background? Anything in particular you prefer for ambiance?

Always. I need something going on in the background or else my
mind will wander way too far off course. While I will sometimes watch
television when in the final stages of a painting, the conceiving of it and
hammering down it's mood, layout, etc is always done exclusively to music. T.V.
is just to distracting to allow any kind of real thought.

I usually make rough soundtracks for the paintings I do based on
the feel I'm going for or just something in the content that seems to sync up
to x band. I never really put much thought into it and my decision is usually
heavily influenced by what ever sound I'm currently into or in the mood for,
but once I start listing to a certain playlist while working on a piece, I
stick to it... it helps get my mind in the frame I set up for it and keep me on
track. The music tells me it's time to work.

The music I tend to use is
somewhat eclectic ranging from ebm and industrial, to urban folk blues type
stuff and weird sufferer rock / rockabilly. For instance, for "She is the
Dark", I had a playlist consisting mostly of black metal... primarily My Dying
Bride (where the title came from) and Moonspell with some Tiamat tossed in for
funsies. For every one of TA's pieces (Nightmare, Eternal, etc), I had a LOT of
Therion playing and for Recruitment Drive and The Killing Blow, I made some EBM
playlists consisting of VNV Nation, Front 242, and Wumpscut. Currently,
however, I've found that I've gone off on a bizarre tangent with Tom Waits and
The Red Elvises.

Do you ever suffer from lack of inspiration (aka artist's block)?
What's your cure?

Eternally. In fact, I began offering watercolor commissions due to
a block I was having with my oil painting. As for how to get rid of them... I
honestly don't know. Sometimes something as simple as seeing new art that blows
me away and makes me wish I could do that is enough to light a fire under my
[censored] and get me going in a new direction. Sometimes, I need to switch
mediums, or just take a break. Each time it happens, it seems to come on in
it's own way and go the same... never the same way twice.

Luckily, doing commissioned work and work for hire tends to keep
the damage of a block to a minimum. When I have someone else telling me what
they'd like to see or have something to illustrate with the imagery already
there, what's there to be blocked? I take what ever is brought to me, work up a
few scene ideas, the client gets back to me with more ideas, I elaborate, etc.
I guess two heads really are better then one.

It's exceptionally rare for a client to come to me who doesn't
already have a vague idea of what they'd like... usually some image or
character would look great in my style which is what brings them to me in the
first place.

Do you have some advice for up-and-coming artists?

Well, for starters, this might be a big "duh" statement, but I
feel it needs to be said. Do not, and I repeat, do not under any circumstance
take out student loans to go to get a fine arts degree unless you're planning
on getting a masters and then tearing out someone else's throat who did the
same thing in order to get their job teaching at some college somewhere.
Granted, it seems like common sense, but then again, there's a lot of us
artistic types who are a little over drawn at that particular bank and might
get caught up in events and not think things through... bad idea.

Other then that, go at it and if you love art, never stop doing
it. It's like ridding a bike, you never forget how... but you can sure as hell
forget how to do it well.

If you're also crazy, masochistic, and really want to hate what
you love then, maybe, just maybe, you have what it takes to try to make a
living off of art. If that's the case, be prepared to make it your entire life
at the exclusion of a LOT of other things... it demands a lot and doesn't give
much back. You're really, really obsessed with making it, then what it does
give back should be enough (probably not for the bills... but nothings
perfect.)

The wisest route would be to find something you don't mind doing
that's close enough to your chosen form of art that actually has a market and
decent pay structure, go for that, and save what you love doing for those warm
fuzzy times when your off the clock.

Are you currently accepting commissions? And what's the best way
for people to get a hold of you for information on commissions?

Hell yes. My door is always open though it should be mentioned
that those looking to commission me are looking at about a 6 month wait
currently.

The best way to get in touch with me is via email at
graver_13x@yahoo.com and any information relating to commissions are
posted to my DA site at [link] just look for a ink somewhere that says
something like Commission Information or some other obscure verbiage.

Food & Recipes

Happy New Years!

I know it's early, but this is the last Scoop until the New Year.
I am going to toss some food ideas at you for your perfect New Years Eve bash,
so stay put!

Finger foods or quick foods are the way to go, especially if
you’ve decided to have a party and invite a lot of friends. Most know that, if
they’re going to be drinking, the best thing to do is eat a good meal
beforehand or have quick or finger foods they can snack on though the night!

Now, just remember, you can make as many as you want. You can double, triple
and quadruple the recipes if you want!

Stuffed Mushrooms

3 slices bacon

8 good size mushrooms

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon chopped onion

3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly
brown. Drain, dice and set aside. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees
C). Remove mushroom stems. Set aside caps. Chop the stems. In a large saucepan
over medium heat, melt the butter. Slowly cook and stir the chopped stems and
onion until the onion is soft. Remove from heat. In a medium bowl, stir
together the mushroom stem mixture, bacon and 1/2 cup Cheddar. Mix well and
scoop the mixture into the mushroom caps.

Bake in the preheated oven 15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted. Remove
the mushrooms from the oven, and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

Guacamole

2 avocados

1/2 lemon, juiced

2 tablespoons chopped onion

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons olive oil

Cut the avocados into halves. Remove the seeds, and scoop out the pulp into a
small bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado. Stir in lemon juice, onion, salt,
and olive oil. Cover the bowl, and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving. Place
out the Nachos into a huge bowl also before the Guacamole is ready to come out
of the fridge!

Sweet Yet Gooey Chicken Wings

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 1/2 pounds chicken wings

In a 9x13 inch casserole dish, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, oil, ginger, and
garlic powder. Mix until brown sugar completely dissolves into the mixture.
Place the chicken wings in the dish and turn them over until they are all well
coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Turn the chicken
again, after 2 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake
chicken at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), covered, for 45 minutes. Turn the
chicken wings, and spoon sauce from the bottom of the pan over the tops of the
wings. Cook an additional 50 minutes, uncovered.

Garden Fresh Pasta Salad

1 (16 ounce) package uncooked tri-color spiral pasta

1/2 cup thinly sliced carrots

2 stalks celery, chopped

1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper

1/2 cup cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced

2 large tomatoes, diced

1/4 cup chopped onion

2 (16 ounce) bottles Italian-style salad dressing

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Cook pasta in large pot of boiling water until al dente. Rinse under cold
water, and drain. Mix chopped carrots, celery, cucumber, green pepper,
tomatoes, and onion together in large bowl. Combine cooled pasta and vegetables
together in large bowl. Pour Italian dressing over mixture, add Parmesan cheese
and mix well.

Chill for one hour before serving.

Having chips, pretzels, and popcorn on hand just to toss out there when the
food gets all eaten is a great idea, too. That way, no one will go hungry.

I hope everyone has an awesome holiday and a great New Years. I will be around
over the holidays when not at work, of course.

See you next year!

Behind the Mask

Developer Incognito

Well folks, I am branching off and starting a semi-regular column
in the Scoop. I have been talking to the community team about doing a Behind
the Mask style interview with members of the development team. I had to go back
to my old style of Q and A, which involved a series of standardized questions
for this, and I won’t know which member of the dev team has responded. I hope
y'all enjoy getting a glimpse of the City of universe from a dev’s point of
view when they are playing the game.

-Teldon

Where do you live?

Somewhere in the US, between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans...

Do you have any pets?

Two dogs; a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd mix.

What is the most interesting place you have visited?

Yellowstone Park. Incredibly beautiful, surreal, and visually varied place to
visit.

What are your top three songs of all time?

I can’t really answer this one. What I like depends entirely on my mood and
what else I’ve heard lately. Very hard for me to pick a favorite anything,
especially movies or songs. All I can say is that I usually like almost
anything and everything done by U2.

What five TV shows could you not live without?

Live without? No, not really...it’s just TV. My current top five favorite shows
that I’d miss the most would probably be “Heroes,” “House,” “Battlestar
Galactica,” “Family Guy,” and “Mythbusters.” Also fond of “Bones,” “Pushing
Daisies,” “Reaper,” and a few dozen other shows that I watch every so often.

What was the best book you
last read?

“Starship Troopers” was the best of the last. That was right before “Cat’s
Cradle” (so-so), but after re-reading most of the “Dragonriders of Pern” books
again. So technically, “Starship Troopers” (which was completely and utterly
unlike the movie other than they did use some of the character’s names, and
they fought some alien “bugs”).

What is your favorite pop culture quote?

“DOH!”

Who is your namesake character, and what are they?

No name, but my main is a level 50 Invulnerable/SS tank with thousands of hours
of playtime and a ton of badges.

What other hobbies do you have?

CoH is my hobby.

Who is your real life hero?

Tough one. Anyone who puts other people’s lives before their own. Highly
spiritual people. Wise people. Generous people. Mothers. People who are
comfortable singing or dancing in front of others. Teachers, police officers,
fire fighters. People like that.

Pants?

A chinchilla in each pocket!

What is your home server, and why did you end up picking it as your
home server?

Well, not listing the actual server name, but I picked it because a friend of
mine was going to play there, and then I ended up never actually playing with
them. I stay for the pie and cookies and because so many of the people there
are just so awesome.

How were you drawn to this game?

Super-hero MMORPG...does more need to be said?

What is your favorite aspect of the game?

Character creation and customization. I truly feel like I have a unique
snowflake in the “City of...” multiverse and can recognize all of my friends by
sight alone.

Which type of character would you say is your favorite to play and
why?

I keep coming back to my tank, so I guess that’s my favorite. Why? Probably
because tanks are generally a laid back way to play the game. You can take your
time a bit more. You get to be in the middle of things and see stuff up close
that you’d otherwise never get to see. Plus there’s just something really
satisfying about being on a team in the middle of a big spawn of bad guys and
having almost all of them focused on you.

How do you normally handle new challenges in the game?

Methodically and logically. I prefer coordinated tactics over brute force and
temp powers.

Which zone is your favorite?

I’m really fond of Sharkhead. I spend most of my time playing heroes, but that
zone in particular really stuck in my mind as being awesome. The big factory,
the giant pit, the shanty town...all of the business between the consortium and
the scrapyarders. I just really like that zone.

What is your favorite storyline in the game?

I’m a big embarrassed to admit this, but I’m more of a visually-oriented
person. I tend to pay more attention to the unique looking things than what all
of those walls of text are saying. Any missions with unique set dressing or
maps tend to impress me, whether it’s the ice ramps in Frostfire map, Dr.
Vahzilok’s base, or rescuing Penelope from underneath the Rikti Mothership. I
honestly can’t remember any of the full storylines, just fragments here and
there, and then any really unique AV/Boss fight or map that they might have had
in them. I love reading books, but for some reason, that just doesn’t work in
games for me.

It has been a busy year for the game so far. Do you feel that Issue
9 to Issue 11 have really added anything to the game and why?

Absolutely. I think the Inventions system and consignment houses alone filled
in a big gap that was missing from this game. Weapon Customization added
another huge bit of character personalization that I think is vital for this
game. Tons of bug and QoL features; so very happy with the past three issues.

What advice do you have for
any new players to the game?

Make friends and get involved in your server’s global community as soon as
possible...like their badge channels or general chat channels. The game can be
played solo, but it’s much more enjoyable when you can play with others. Most
importantly, stay away from the forums at all costs!

Any closing comments?

I’m looking forward to the next year for this game. I expect Issue 13 and 14 to
be quite a bit better than anything we’ve had up until this point. Issue 12 is
probably just a bit too soon with the recent changing of the guard and all of
the ramping up that NCSoft will have to do for the new studio. But hopefully
they’ll be rolling along at full steam by 13 and on.

Emerald Isle Fury

Protector Server

Where do you live?

I live in Sunny California. L.A. to be exact.

And what do you do for a living?

I am a Director of Customer Service for a major members only retail chain. A
bit stressful, but it pays the bills.

Do you mind giving your age and gender?

Sure, I'm old though...I'm 33 and male and yes, I still play video games.

Do you have any pets?

I have a dog, and her name is Lakota. She is a Rottie that has her own couch.
Great dog, really sweet, but she thinks she is a lap dog.

What would be your top three movies of all time?

Ah, again with the tough choices. I love the Back to the Future series. I found
them very entertaining. Holy Grail/Office Space (tie), and of all
choices...Evolution. It's funny, and has a special meaning for me-though 300
comes in VERY close. Loved that flick!

Are you seeing someone special?

I met someone special here playing the game, so I owe a debt of thanks to the
Dev Gawds.

What would you say are your top five songs of all time?

Wow...difficult choice really. I'm a romantic at heart, so for me, it would
probably be “Total Eclipse” by Bonnie Tyler as number one, followed by “The
Kill” by 30 Seconds to Mars, pretty much anything by Evanescence or Linkin
Park, “I Don't Have to Wonder” by Garth Brooks, and “Tainted Love” by Soft
Cell. Whew, tough choices there.

What TV shows do you enjoy watching?

Oh that one is easy! Heroes is GREAT! I also really enjoy Chuck. Of course, I
have been a fan of Survivor and American Idol from the start, so they always
suck me in, too. Finally, even though they are gone now, I still enjoy Buffy
and Firefly thanks to the power of DVD!

What authors would you say are your favorite?

Short stories would be Poe, and in terms of books, I really enjoyed the Harry
Potter series. I'm interested in seeing what else J.K. Rowling puts out. But
Dan Brown and Lahaye/Jenkins are skilled with the pen too. I enjoy stories that
really draw the reader in and get them involved in the book. Books that almost
make the reader a character are great!

So how did you end up picking your home server?

For me it was about what I was "signing-up" to do. I was about to make a Super
Hero, a "protector," so for me the choice was easy. Since I was going to be a
"protector," I joined Protector Server.

Which side do you prefer to play and why?

Oh, definately the Blue side all the way. I guess that's because I'm a "good
guy" at heart. Even the few Villains I have are sort of "anti-heroes" or "dark
heroes." If I wanted to run around doing bad things, I'd play Grand Theft or
something. Even at level 50, I find that as I fly around a zone, I will take
the time to "stop" a mugging or a purse snatching. It's kinda funny.

What is your favorite archetype?

You know, the first time I played, I didn't do any research or anything-just
picked based on the descriptions provided, and now as somewhat of a vet of the
game, I still prefer the Blaster. Although, I've play Dual Blades on Test and
WOW! Blasters are very flashy, and very "hero-like" for me, and you can really
swing a fight, if you are good.

Which zone is your favorite?

Tough question, I really like the variety you find in Talos, but in terms of
just plain impressive environment, you can't beat Firebase Zulu. Really takes
you someplace else, you know?

What is your general play style in the game?

I die ...a lot. I'm very much a Tank at heart, I like to jump right in and get
into the mix. But, over the levels, I have gotten better. I definitely avoid
any Leroy Jenkins moves, but nothing I like better than picking a fight with
the bad guy.

How do you generally go about creating costumes for your
characters?

Oy vey, that is my weak spot. I will literally spend hours at Icon. For me,
costumes are a MAJOR part of the game...and costumes have to match the hero. I
usually have a picture in mind and try to bring it to life. I can't draw, so
it's the next best thing.

What advice do you have for new players to the game?

Get out there and team. Too many times, you have newbies spending all their
time complaining about how long it takes to level, when if they were actually
teaming, they would be getting XP. That, and remember if you want to be bad, go
to the Red side.

Any closing comments?

Just that I've really enjoyed playing this game, and I look forward to its
continued development. Plant control for us Blues and Water Control powers
would be great! Also, I would love to see them incorporate underwater
environments ala WoW and DDO. Thanks for what you and your associates do at the
City Scoop, I always enjoy it!

Horoscopes

Heroscopes

Controller
(Gemini)
– Sun transiting the Second House indicates a time when
you may expend a great deal of effort to secure finances. This may come about
through associations you have with people in "important" positions. Also,
you're apt to spend new-found finances unwisely during this time; care and
judicious thought must be given to the practical use of money.

Defender
(Cancer)
– Mars conjunct Mercury gives tremendous mental energy to
you and inflates your ego—take care to avoid being temperamental and touchy. If
you channel this energy well, you can be very influential today.

Scrapper
(Leo)
– Neptune transiting the First House tunes you to the
thoughts and feelings of friends and family. Interest in religion or mysticism
is high now, and your sympathy for others is great. You may be of tremendous
help to an associate or stranger because of your compassionate nature during
this transit.

Blaster
(Scorpio)
– Moon transiting the First House marks a time when your
personality and mode of living will be changeable. You are well-disposed to
others at this time, but you should be careful of "bending over backwards" just
to help someone or please someone. You may feel yourself used now.

Tanker
(Aquarius)
- Mars square Mars may bring a sense of inadequacy or
frustration to you today. It's important to realize that failures at work may
not be your fault. This is a good transit to engage in some kind of physical
activity.

Peacebringer
(Libra)
– Venus conjunct Venus is a transit which makes you
unusually affectionate and likely to have that affection reciprocated. It is a
good time to express your love for someone or perhaps start a new relationship.
It’s a good day to be with friends or just party.

Warshade
(Pisces)
- Saturn transiting the First House tends to slow you
down, making you realistic about your abilities and expectations for success.
Your nature will most likely be very stoical now, as you take a serious
attitude to just about all aspects of your life. This is an excellent time to
sit down alone and get many things accomplished.

Villainscopes

Brute
(Aries)
– Venus opposite Mars empowers you with great energy and
makes you physically attractive and attracted to the opposite sex. However, you
should avoid the tendency of "coming on too strong" to someone you're enamored
with at this time.

Mastermind
(Virgo)
– Uranus in the First House implants in you a desire to
free yourself from the "chains" you see society placing on you. You may react
suddenly against things which previously seemed the normal thing to do. Also,
this is a good time to lead the way on a project, for your originality is
unusually heightened now.

Corrupter
(Sagittarius)
– Sun conjunct Mercury enhances your creative
thinking today. You may have new and promising ideas in work or business. Today
is the day to start new ventures. On a more mundane level, it is an excellent
day to write letters and go out and experience the world.

Dominator
(Taurus)
– Mars square Uranus gives you a restlessness today,
which may manifest itself as a need to strike out on your own, giving your
creative energies free reign. Be careful in the way you act towards employers
during this transit.

Stalker
(Capricorn)
– Uranus conjunct Mars is a transit of spectacular
power, and the explosive energy may flood into any facet of your life. You will
find it difficult to control or even mask your emotions. Constructive
expression is the key today.

Addendum: Scorn wanted to say a few words for her readers with regards to the
holidays, however, after several edits she decided she’d rather take a
vacation. I’m sure she’d want to wish all the season’s best…if she could
without being insulting. Better luck next year.

From the Editors

To Our Loyal Readers,

At the time of this writing, the City Scoop has been in the eye of
the public for almost seven months. The project was in the works for a while
before that. I, like so many of our still very dedicated staff, have been here
since the very beginning. After all this time, though, it is now right that I
step down as Editor in Chief of the City Scoop. It has been a great run, and I
look back on it with no regrets.

I have taken a fantastic job that I enjoy very much, but being
Editor in Chief is something that requires more of a commitment than I can
give. I will be taking off my Captain's hat, but I will be staying on the team
as a general City Scoop staff member, giving advice and helping out when
possible.

You may have noticed that I this message doesn't contain the
phrases "sadly" or "with a heavy heart." This is a conscious decision that I
made after reflecting on the current City Scoop staff. When the announcement
was made internally two weeks ago, we immediately began setting into motion
plans to replace me and carry on with the vision of the Scoop that we all
originally had.

After an election, we decided that the new Editor in Chief will be
Dirtwolf.

This is something that I say with pride and with joy as I've always seen
Dirtwolf as a passionate person perfectly suited for the position. Shortly
after the internal handing of the baton, Dirtwolf began not to change, but to
improve the Scoop. While it's a rule not to repeat what is said in the City
Scoop forum, I can tell you without hesitation that you all are in very good
hands. You can only expect the City Scoop to be an even greater homage to City
of X's greatest asset: all of you.

I love you all very much. I believe that this community is
something worth working for and taking pride in. It has been a joy getting to
know each and every one of you and learning about all the different ways City
of X fans love the game. You are all encouraged to participate in as many
events as possible and try something out of the norm for you. You'll only see
great things with this community. I speak from an irreplaceable experience.

With all due respect,

Marcian Tobay

Dear Readers,

Progress is the activity of today and the assurance of tomorrow

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Everything in life starts as an idea. Maybe it's something that
isn't dwelled upon, and some ideas never get that jump start to become
something bigger, better, stronger. Marcian Tobay had a brain child and refused
to let it dwindle away. The City Scoop was born onto these forums with a lot of
help, a lot of love, and a lot of effort.

When I joined the Scoop, I was doing it because I had an excess of
time on my hands during the 8 hour shift I was working at a real estate office.
I wanted something to make the day progress quicker, and there was a post made
that mentioned Thor's Assassin needing an assistant posted in the art section.
I leaped on the opportunity with great vigor (and some duct tape).

Now, here I am. I'm not just getting my fingers covered in the
e-paint of the art section, I've got a weekly one panel comic (sorry about /em
Smack's absence last week. It had to get its appendix removed, I swear!), got
to look official at an NCsoft Meet and Greet where I sat next to David
Nakayama, and now I receive the most prestigeous title I could receive in the
Staff (short of turning my name red), Editor in Chief.

I'm not going to question what motivated our staff the choose me. I'm not going
to be arrogant nor take advantage of it. I just want the staff to know that I
don't ever want to let them down, and I want you, most importantly, to know
that I am going to try to make the City Scoop all it can be.

Thank you all for your support and I appreciate everyone who takes time out
each week to read what we, the staff, has put out for all of you to enjoy.

Sincerely, the new Editor in Chief,

Dirtwolf (Cassandra Reyhani)
