Comprehensive Guide to the Sonic/Sonic Defender
Very good guide! I just recently returned to COH/COV after a long absence. I had made a sonic defender when they first came out but remember the graphics being really bad. Running a few missions last night with a pick up group I witnessed a sonic/sonic defender in action for the first time and was impressed!. After reading your guide I think I will give it a try now.
Ezra Cinders 28 Dark/Elec Defender-Freedom
Cold Climate 44 Ice/Storm Controller-Freedom
InnerCore 50 Earth/Rad Controller-Pinnacle
Psychic Knife 34 Warshade-Pinnacle
Good guide.
It's lacking reference importable Mid's builds though
Kudos for adding to the Sonic library. Thank you for this guide! I agree with almost all of it.
A few places where I have some extra input:
* As you hit your late 40s, consider pimping out Liquefy. Three Enzymes give you enhanced defense debuff, to-hit debuff, AND accuracy. That means you can pretty much hold the majority of a spawn for a moment, and massively debuff the rest. It's a great Alpha attack... no longer does the tank have to go in first! And if you're with a controller, the bosses will be locked down as well. Add recharges in the rest o the slots and, with Hasten or other recharge buffage, you're good to Liquefy quite often. The great thing is now we have Wentworths/BM, so you can easily buy these Hami-os. I got mine for 3-5 mil a piece.
* I like 1 recharge in Clarity. When I want it, I want it multiple times and quickly. Just my preference.
* Aside from Liquefy and Sonic Dispersion, a Sonic/Sonic has almost no damage mitigation from bosses or harder enemies. Siren's Song will not sleep them. Screech, as you mentioned, will only debuff them but not disorient. I highly recommend taking Shockwave and popping 2 accs in it. I cannot tell you how many times I have had some super bad boss-level-or-higher meanie run up to me, only to get fired backwards into the tank's aura or the controller's Earthquake or my own Liquefy. Even if there is no good place to send them, stopping them from attacking for several seconds is a major boost to your own survivability. I pretty much consider Shockwave mandatory for my Sonic Blast toons, both defenders and blasters, unless I go Storm or Kin.
* Regarding SR/DB - Tentacles + Liquefy is a great ghetto hold. Enemies can't move. And though they can attack, the to-hit debuffs (combined) keeps them from hitting much of anything. Instead of Shockwave you get Torrent. Torrent (into corner) ->Liquefy->Tentacles -> Nightfall is a great combo.
@OP:
I've recently started leveling up a sonic/rad defender and am loving it. Even at low level, Irradiate's mammoth defense debuff combined with Disruption's -resistance on the tanker = lots of arrested bad guys. I haven't pushed the envelope on this real hard, but IMO with a little bit of healing from another toon, my guess is that this powerset would allow running group Invincible missions pretty much from level 4 on.
I also agree that endurance reduction is critical. Even at level 15 I have Disruption slotted with 3 Endredux DOs, and 2 in the big bubble.
Like the guide, particularly the various sonic/ and /sonic combo discussion.

I've been wanting to roll up a Sonic Defender for a while now (ever since their graphics got changed to the awesome orange), and this guide has really cemented my decision. So, I just wanted to say, "thanks" for putting this out. Now I'm really looking forward to buffing and debuffing the snot out of things!
See you on the battlefield!
