Calling one power another ((OOC Question))

I realize this is a silly question but, while I have been playing CoH for awhile, I'm rather new at really, seriously trying to roleplay in it. (Roleplay meaning more than just sitting in Pocket D dancing or having a drink).

I recently started a stalker but the concept I had for it... the powers were just not quite what fit so I did some substitution.

Travel power? No, she doesn't have one of those. She rides a motorcycle (super speed). The bike just isn't graphically there.

And dark melee? Hers has nothing to do with shadow. That is venom coming from her hands. Her new aura shows how it continuously flows from and turns into vapor whether she is fighting or not.

I've seen people do similar things... calling energy blast water or flight a jump jet (before you could buy something that looked like a jump jet). Does anyone do anything similar? Or would this be breaking lore?

I know a number of people who call things in a certin powerset something else. I even has a Warshade that supposed to use shadow to attack his enemies insted of negative energy, and it works out graphicly and RP-ingly.

Really, if it sounds right and can be explained as to what the power 'actualy' is for the RP, then yes, you can call 'dark melee' 'poison vapor melee' (which is actualy a cool concept) and the travel power is fine. Until they actualy add a Player usable motorcycle in-game, RP super speed as one. Still works the same and has the same effects.

Edit: Ha!!! I beat Devious AND Diov!!! That has to be some kind of record!!!

I'd say you're fine. I remember I had to shoehorn stuff around quite a bit for some concepts.

Characters

Oh no, plenty of people do similer things. Take me for example.

One of my characters is a reality manipulator who has full control over the manipulation of dimensional probabilities to do whatever he wants. In-game, he a a /dark mastermind. I simply say that the distortions in the fabric of existence form the 'dark' animation that he uses. What he is doing is twisting and corrupting the very way existence works: As of such, anything affected by his power in this way is naturally changed temporarilly or permenantly to resemble the current effects and animation of most dark powers.

Really, as long as you put proper reasoning and a solid explanation behind it, you can make an ice tanker and say he uses fire. (Which he really won't, and it will still look and seem like he is using ice, but the way his character is set up, he uses fire.)

Thanks guys.

I usually try to keep with the lore, so I'm glad Mojave Green is still on track. She's human/mutant but her concept is based from a rattlesnake... no relation to the 'snakes' of Rogue Isles, of course.

Now to find roleplay...

PS: The mastermind concept sounds pretty cool.

I've seen this done a lot. I actually use Grav control as Magnetic Control for my dom. I;ve seen another use it as Telekinesis.

How funny, I thought I was the only one that used that idea. My dark/dark defender doesn't have "powers from the underworld" . She's a probability twister. She nudges the odds of something happening in favor of her team( heals, holds etc). Of course, sometimes you just roll poorly (misses).
She even has a fun back story on how she figured all this out (please see the sig )

I haven't really had to deal with this concept too much, but one of my characters, Psycho13 on Triumph, isn't actually a Claws/Regen (aka the Wolverine Ripoff Build) Scrapper. While he DOES have the regeneration effects, he's actually a knife wielder... The claws just happen to be the animation, so they're covered with an explanation that the claws are knives he has duct-taped together.

Of course, if Dual Blades is the new melee power the devs introduce, I'm rerolling and retconning that character so fast, it'll make my head spin! Not your heads, because, well, you're not on my side of the Internet...

I know what you mean. My main, while he does have exceptional, near magical skills in marital arts, his real powers come from the bursts of magic that shoot from his feet in different forms.

As for the super reflexes? He can see a little bit into the future from time to time and can react if he makes sense of what he sees. The rest, well, a wizard did it to be honest. A group of five to be exact.

You're not the only one.

I use the Prestige Power Slide with my Assault Rifle/Kin corruptor, because she rides a bike. A hot pink Hayabusa, to be exact. So the pink trail behind her is the speed blur from the bike. I also have her first costume set as all leathers plus a racer-style helmet. She'll change out of it when indoors (and not use the PPS power).

Likewise, my Dark/Dark Corruptor (Baroness Samedi) is a voodoo priestess. Both Dark Blast and Dark Miasma are Rp'd as 'death effects' rather than physical forces.

There's also characters that RP the Kinetics powerset as Time Control (Hour Woman), and the Thermal Radiation powerset as nanotech. Deathspider RP's the acc debuff of Dark Melee as anxiety pheromones.

So as far as RP goes, as long as it's semi-plausable, go for it.
