Ayanei Sketch (2 versions) + Squirrel info >.>

First - I have 2 sketchies! >.> Well ok actually it's just one sketch. After that experiment I did with Farwielder's piece, I decided to try some different filters with this next one as well.

The idea here was to experiment some with forshortening... I didn't quite get it <~.~> Still... I'm reasonably happy with it. Happy enough to give it it's own thread - which is better than I did with my last sketch.

Anyway - Ayanei jumps a fence carrying a flag!

Blue Stamp Filtered version

The original is a bit 'better' - but I like the second too for some reason, so I put it up for kicks.

Now for the information <~.~> as some (probably all) of you know - I'm going into surgery tomorrow. Nothing major or fancy, just a gallbladder removal. I should be home tomorrow evening, and may even be able to post here.

But I wanted to mention - just in case *something* goes wrong and I have to be in the hospital longer - what's going on >.< I know it's just me, but I really do get worried when people just 'poof'. The internet is odd... you can get close to people - but then they can be gone completely and you'll never know why.

So now you know <@-@>

Back to the art uhm... whatcha think? >.>;

Well I really like the original Mist!! I think you've definately improved!

Also if it's just a gallbladder removal you'll be fine man! Don't sweat that! We'll see ya tomorrow night!!

OK.

On the gallbladder op: Don't worry, you'll be fine. In ages past, yeah, it'd have been major. But now, no big deal. *hugs*

On the artwork: what you mean you didn't get the foreshortening down? That looks really good!

You might want to atually bring the front foot up a bit, and/or do some detail work to indicate that the boot sole is visible, and MAYBE adjust the taper of that leading thigh and knee and such to allow for foreshortening... but not much, you're really close!

Also you can give subtle hints as to what direction the character is moving (up, down, sideways) by the way the flag is being 'blown'. The way it is now, it looks like she's jumping slightly to the left... but the body posture suggests straight forward or maybe even a little to the right. If the flagpole/halberd gets in the way when you do that, you can always incline it forward or off to the side, to give you more freedom to work with the flag 'drape'.

(( can't draw human figures for shyte, but did a LOT of perspective study drawing in school... yay for straightedges and protractors!))

Ok, the problem you've got there is that the different parts of the arms/legs need to be the same length. Like..
There's two sections to the arm, and an elbow in the middle. the two sections need to be the same length, when the arm isn't foreshortened. The same thing with the legs. Just keep that in mind.

Also, when you're rough sketching, how exactly do you start to draw the characters in? I draw mannequins to get the joints and stuff straight. Just draw the joints as balls, and the arms and legs like they fit into the balls. (By the way, that statement was completely clean, shut up. -.- ) And foreshortening is hard. @.@

And good luck with the surgery!!

Good luck with the surgery, Ihop eit goes well and that they release you hale and healthy as fast as possible

The surgery sounds scary but take it from an EMT, it's barely a step above getting your appendix out. You'll be fine, just leave all your loose cash at home that day >
Like the pic.

Nice sketches! I like the first one better myself. Thanks for letting us know about the surgery! I'm sure you'll be fine. I've known several people who had it, and they had no problems. *hugs*

Gl with the surgery, dood.

Thanks all!

I got back around 5-5:30ish, and *nearly* posted a message here around midnight, but I was still *way* too messed up to do anything then. <x.x> I had a fever and well - I'll not mention my other more 'interesting' symptoms. Let me assure you - twas not my most cute and fuzzily moment.

However after a couple more hours I'm doing *much* better - and my primary pain is actually from the cuts instead of 'everything else' now. I appreciate all your love and support hehe >.<b this squirrel is extremely lucky, between you guys, and friends I've made in other places...

Well I don't feel as effing lonely as I did awhile back. Sad that I had to have surgery for me to realize it though lol <X_X>

As for the picture >.> some good points made. I may re-do it once I feel better... I'm not sure why it turned out as it did... I'll chalk it up to pre-surgery stress (regardless of if that's true >.> hey, it's pass right?)

Hopefully after I'm better I can hop back to work on the Tarot Card, my extremely late Christmas project, and my queue (those of you in it have the patience of saints <T.T> thank you for that!)

Anyway, thanks again everyone, hopefully I'll be around as usual - but if not >.< *GROUP HUG*!

In the interests of keeping you as pain-free as possible, I shall refrain from glomping you.

Really glad you're doing alright mist!

The only thing that looks really weird to me is the leg on our right. More specifically, from the knee down. I can see the thigh is angled downward towards us, but the calf and foot don't seem to connect quite right.

I do like the rest of it though! First dragon scales, now chain mail... You're masochistic little bugger.

Hehe, thanks again all <^_^>

I do *lots* of chainmail <'x'> Sometime I'll post one of my most chain-intensive pics just to show you - I love it (it's actually not to hard once you get used to it too!)

The dragon was a total beast because I had to draw special shapes for each scale <x.x> rather than a repetative circular motion hehe

Ayanei - Full Armor

That one doesn't have as much to it - but this is an older pic of the same character >.> I've actually done *alot* with her.

the B&W one I'd like to share involves rummaging <;_;> which I can't do atm.

Hmm... this pic makes me want to give inks another shot...

I love the eyes in that one! I'm a sucker for eyes!

Glad you're A-OK Squirrel! ^_^b

To better explain what I said earlier...

You have to know the arm and leg length before you pose them. Such as, if you're posing the legs AND the arms, you're probably gonna wanna lightly draw them standing there, and then get the arm/leg length from there. That way, you can work off of the actual length, instead of doing it by eye.

I hope that explains it a bit better. XD
