New Character Backstory

I really like to RP but I really don't do it as often as I like. This is the backstory to my newest character on Virtue. And normally I wouldn't post something like this because I get pretty nervous, but I was up real late and this just kinda came to me so I typed it up. Anyway here it is for peer reveiw.

The Dawn of a Hero

I was young, fresh out of college and with my physics degree in my hand I made my way to my new employer. I just purchased a condo in Peregrine Island, on the outskirts of Paragon city. The rent was outrageous, but I paid for the convenience of the commute. It was always a short trip, about a fifteen minute walk to work and back. I saved a lot of money on gas, most of which went to pay for the rent anyways so I guess I broke even in the end. However the sights alone were worth it. From ten foot tall steam powered war machines, militant organizations, psychic clowns, body snatching mystics, and stranded aliens the commute was anything but mundane. Oh and the heroes; I could see them from my window almost constantly. They ran, flew, leapt, and teleported always in a hurry to a mission, upholding justice in Paragon, around the world, light years away, and even across dimensions. These titular paragons of Paragon were always a sight to behold. And though months past and it seemed very exciting at first, slowly but surely I became acclimated to it. Though I had been saved numerous times, I began to expect danger and rescue and I may have even started to take things for granted. The same could be said about my job. Though working at Portal Corps was exciting at first, sending heroes on their missions, and studying new and different dimensions. Places with different ideals, people, and even physical properties than my own. But soon it just became work again, proving and disproving theories, doing tedious calculations day in and day out. And though the world of heroes was just outside my window, it always seemed far away from me.

Until that fateful day when all my preconceptions about heroes came crashing down. It started normally enough for my job. Study a captured shadow cyst crystal. I had seen hazardous material teams carry these large crystals two and fro. But this would be my first time seeing one up close. I was to do some simple tests on it; spectrograph, harmonics, and other miscellaneous experiments to determine its space time spanning properties. I was about halfway through the tests when it all went wrong. The crystal sprang to life and inky darkness poured out of it. A shadowy malevolence like nothing I had ever felt before. It smashed through the containments with ease making a beeline straight for me. It hit me with concussive waves of darkness and I fell, blacking out for a moment. My vision returned and I was on my back looking up at it as it slowly descended towards me. I tried to move away but found I couldn’t, I tasted copper in my mouth and my head swam. The creature that I would later learn to be a Nictus began to sink into my chest, and I felt willpower from it, compelling me not to resist tempting me with images of power.

I was almost at the brink of defeat when I saw another sight, a light so bright that it swept the darkness away. Bolts of radiance shot forth striking the Nictus and pushing it away from me. Eventually the creature of light destroyed the darkness, and then floated to my side. I looked up at it. That’s when I truly met myself for the first time, or more accurately what was to be a part of me. Its name was Castor, It had come to earth some time ago looking for its brother Pollux. It hunted its brother for it had become as foul as the creature that had attacked me. However it was almost in its tenth year, it told me sorrowfully through words that seemed to find my very soul. It’s time was nearing an end, but it could not go into the beyond without accomplishing its goal. So it offered me a pact. We would become as one for both our survivals. It would help me and I would help it.

It only took a second for me to agree. Thus came about my second birth. Together the two of us became a singular creation. I was a new being forged in the light of the stars, and forever in pursuit of the darkness in men’s hearts, and my own twin shadow. We were like a new constellation yet unnamed by mortals, hanging majestically in the heavens. Thus that day the peacebringer known as Asterism was born. And we joined our earthly fellows, the heroes that once seemed so distant. Sometimes I look inside the window of that condo, and I think about my old life. And I am glad that I was given this chance to be a hero.
