Todesfall's robots followed him as he followed the others to Dark Astoria's gate. His voice boomed, "We'll hold the gate as long as we can. Go and do what you do best...heroes. If nothing else, we should be able to keep the ones here from spilling farther into the city and doing any damage to things that matter."

Turning back toward the oncoming tide of energy beings, Todesfall positioned himself so his bubble of force prevented any of them from advancing to the gate. Pulling out his pulse rifle once more, he gave the order: "OPEN FIRE! None shall pass!"

The drones gave a chirping, "Yes, boss!" as the energy beings hurled volleys of light, trying to break the line.

Things looked bleak, and Todesfall wasn't sure how long his technology could stem the tide...he only hoped that nothing sabatoged this temporary unity until the threat had passed, since any in-fighting could spell doom for all...

------------------------------------------------------------------

In the depths of MechaNation's primary base, two AI units started up. One was short and powerfully build, emanating electric energy. The other was tall and slim, containing heat and radiation processors to prevent its internal power core from exploding.

The tall one turned to face the short, "The master wakes us both, KillSwitch. We should proceed now."

The short one nodded once and buzzed, "Assesment: affirmative."

The two robots activated the Nation teleporters to Todesfall's submersible, and sped towards Talos to compute why they were needed...

"What is that madman doing? How can one legion of robots hold the gate. Let's go, henchmen, he may need our help!"

Death Wielder and his undead reached the gate soon enough. Lurch was the first to speak.

"Hey, dude, we're here to help out. And that's not how you say it. Death Wielder has a great impression of it. C'mon boss show him."

"I am NOT going to show him. And I told you never to speak of that. That's why I no longer drink."

"C'mon, pretty please?"

"Oh, all right."

Death Wielder stepped forward to the front of the gate and spread his arms wide. His cape and hair billowed in a wind that only seemed to affect him.

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"

Lurch, Shamble, and Decay shared a three-way high five.

"Now will you go and fight, you idiots?"

"You got it boss," the three zombies said in unison as they went after their fellow cadavers.

Death Wielder turned to Todesfall, "I am Death Wielder, king of the idiots. And you?"

"Becky is Coldfire's woman." Carlos said to Rahu, "She's a fighter, will be helpful in this mess."

Coldfire was speeding ahead of the other two, determined on getting to King's Row where their apartment was. Entering Atlas Park, Coldfire's eyes widened as he saw the most terrible sight he had ever seen. The entire area was destroyed, junior heroes lied dead, strown across the ground. Their skills were not able to keep them alive. Coldfire could only hope that some of the more senior heroes could have saved some of them.

"We have to get to King's Row." Coldfire said looking back at the other two.

An explosion from behind caused Cold to turn, only to see an even greater army than those he'd seen of the energy beings come out of the rubble and buildings after them. As the group got ready to fight, a man began dropping from a building. Upon landing, he send many of the creatures flying, slicing through them and then, skidding to a stop next to them, his katana leaving an etched trail in the ground.

"Blade, have you seen Becky?!" Coldfire said as he looked at his original cohort.

"She's-" Blade of Dragon began, being cut off by a thud on the ground next to them.

The small group of people turned to see Becky standing in blue jeans and a v-neck shirt. Her long, red hair in a ponytail.

"Did you guys forget there is an army attacking us..." Becky said as she materailized her broadsword, "Or did you just want to check me out?"

((Seriously, lets get some villains other than mine into this story, the Isles are being attacked too!))

Knuckles was able to hold off the energy creatures long enough for him to make an introduction to the ever-increasing group next to him.

"Hey, youse guys, name's Knuckles. Any of youse catch who's doin' this? I mean, I like a good fight as much as da next guy, but this is ridiculous."

Mu'Rahu looked thoughtful. With a sweeping look she took in the newcomers, "Greetings. None of us know their precise nature but they seem extra-terrestrial in origin. It is my belief that we must learn more if we are to defeat them. I had propsed we capture one, but an interrogation might take more time then we have to spare." She smiled rughfully, "By chance, do any of you happen to know a good psychic?"

((There seemt o be no shrotage of villains, and that's only counting the ones I cna be compeltly sure of (myself and the two obvious masterminds). The problem is that there'll all here, since the story started here, and not in the ROgue Isles.))

"I can use my powers." Becky said looking at the mystic, "I was cloned from Countess Crey so I have a diminished version of her powers."

Becky moved back behind Coldfire and closed her eyes. Her head began glowing pink and she floated in the air. As she hover in place, her eyes opened and she began skimming the minds of the beasts.

"Their...their minds are blank but..." Becky said scanning the masses, "Coldfire, I need protection to do a better search."

"You heard the lady." Coldfire said as he nodded to Carlos who then took out a steel box and deployed it, watching it transform into an auto turrent and the two began unloading into the crowd.

Todesfall's energy shields were being sorely pressed by the onslaught, and had compressed to half of its inital size since the fight had begun. His robots had all taken heavy damage when the necromancer arrived.

Watching the display as he fired his pulse rifle once more, Todesfall dead-panned: "So should I be calling you Wielder the Grey? I go by Professor Todesfall, but you can call me Todesfall the Blue if it suits your fancy. ((Yeah, yeah, I'm picking on LotR, what can I say )) Here, take this shielding," he continued, tossing field beacons to the necromancer and his squad of goons.

Nu chirped up, "Hey, boss, ignore the dead guys, right?"

Todesfall called again to the drone, "They're here to fight with us."

Nu immediately turned around to bring its pulse cannon to bear on Lurch, as Todesfall corrected the drone, "FOR us, you malfunctioning bucket of bolts, not AGAINST us!"

Pulling its cannon away and blasting an energy being as it tried to tackle Lurch, Nu replied, "Be more specific next time, boss!"

Lambda piped up before Todesfall could berate the drone, "Nu, you keep that up and all the nano-repair goes to Kappa, got it?"

Nu chirped and fizzled a bit, and then continued to fight in silence, glad that the zombies were here to take some of the damage for them...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The tall one and the short one had just reach Paragon's War Walls when their transponders beeped. The Nation was calling, and apparantly it was the Isles they were supposed to go to, not Paragon. The short one turned and droned, "Course: corrected."

The tall one vocalized an imitation of a sigh, "Why don't tell us things BEFORE we travel, KillSwitch?"

The short one droned, "Irradience: silence. Function: carry out: immediately."

The tall one, still following the short one as they sped at sound breaking speeds towards the Isles, whirred, "Little ingrate, see if I initate repair protocols next time you're in trouble..."

The mystic raised an eyebrow at this revelation, but nodded. "Very well." Mu'Rahu glanced in the direction of the nearest alien creature, and suddenly, glowing shackles made of scintilating electrical energy apeared to bind it. She waited fora moment as teh creature struggled with it's confinements futily, before focusing her energies to drag it bodilly to lie at the feet of teh group. "Probe that one while we deal with the rest. We may not be able to hodl tehm back indefinatly, however."

So-saying, the mystic rose into the air, and, as she concentrated, a pulsating globe of light electrical energy formed above her head, even as the air around her started to glow with lightning discharges. She had jsut not enough time to prepare her defences before the next wave of Aliens reached their position. That, and a curious thought, "Say... whatever happened to the masterminds?" After that, she was far too busy to consider much at all.

Searching the thoughts of the crowd gave Becky no results, but there was something...

"I...I can't..." Becky began as her sight tightened and she focused harder, "I think there are leaders pulling the strings behind this..."

Becky looked around and then pointed in the direction of a large white glowing energy pod.

"There! There is something in there controlling these things! They are the ones that reconstruct the monsters!" Becky yelled as she dropped to the ground and began forcing her way to the pod. Coldfire followed from the air. Reaching the ship, Coldfire blew off the door and the two looked into the dark interior. Then, like a bullet, two large arms reached out and grabbed them, and then, the pod burst as two huge armored giants stood. The two hulking creatures were flesh, different than the monsters that had ravaged Dark Astoria. Then, from behind them, they could see a small, shielded being in a small floating pod. Although it looked human, it's blue flesh set it apart. The small bubble-like shield glew with energy as red tendrals flew out and resurected a few fallen monsters.

Mu'Rahu arrives at the glwoing pod only moments behind the others, cutting a (short-lived) path through the intervening alienswith her deadly aura and electrical bolts. She turns to Becky next o her and nods in the direction fo the samll floating alien: what about that thing? Can your mental powers reach it?"

Even as she asks, arcs of lighting streak out to encircle and bind one of teh small alien's gargantuan guardians. Unfortunatly, the thing merely persists as if unencombered by teh tremendous bonds of energy werapped around it. "Inconveniant." Consignign herself to do things the hard way, she floats up, above the thing's each arms, and unleashes one destructive spell after another in a barrage of crimson energy. Unable to resist the urge to say somethign pointless and melodramatic (must be a supervillain genetic trait), she looks down at the behemoths, and comments, "The hard way it is then, mongrel. Come and face the blood of Mu in battle! You shall not find me wanting!"

"I see you also have henchmen whose sentience seems to have come with a wasting disease of the mind. Thank you for the shields. So, what brings you to this neighborhood? I'm looking for mystical artifacts used by the Banished Pantheon. You can probably guess why. I'd have thought you'd be on your way to that Rikti crash site, or maybe Portal Corps."

Death Wielder turned his attention away from Todesfall to glare at the energy beasts, making many of them cower under his gaze, even paralyzing one of them completely.

"You see, the reason my henchmen fear me is because everyone does."

"If we feared you, why would we bug you so much?" Lurch had, for the third time in one hour, caused his boss to sigh in exasperation. "Yay! A new record!"

"You know, I thought it would be a good idea to give them their souls. You know, have someone to talk to. What's worse is that I actually let Lurch pick out the other two unarmed zombies. He just went and found his drinking buddies. But the thing that scares me the most is that they were probably like that while alive, too. I pity everyone they met."

------------------------

Knuckles saw the new aliens emerge from the pod, and knew he had a task to perform.

"I'll take onea da big guys, youse focus on da otha two. I may be a meathead, but I'm a meathead wit big muscles! Yo, bad guy, meet my fists! Fist, meet the bad guy!"

Knuckles lunged at the large creature on the left, battering it with his massive fists.

(OOC: If you can figure out where I coined Knuckles's battle cry from, pat yourself on the back, just remember to eat .)

Becky for a moment tried to reach the mind of small alien and was immediately shocked by a massive bolt of energy blowing her away and flinging her through a building facade. Coldfire, seeing the sight, eyes came aflame and rushed at the small alien only to have one of the larger ones move in the way, leaping into the air, he summoned his ice sword and yelled out, "YOU WILL FALL!"

Knuckles slammed into the behemoth as he heard Coldfire yell his battle cry.

"Alright, big guy, looks like yer buddy's occupied. Let's go!"

He jumped up and gave the giant a solid right hook to the head, and followed it up by picking up one of the energy creatures by the feet, spun around and let go, causing it to crash into its own large comrade.

"How'dya like me now?!"

Todesfall responded, watching the fight around them come come more even as between their collective minions and support the energy beings were held as if by a solid beachfront, "Well, Nu was my first AI, I simply haven't had it in me to deactivate it. Normally, I would have been attempting to access the Rikti ship, but my satellites got glimpse of a strange energy signature, headed here. Thinking that perhpas there was technology to be had, here we are...we got a special reception. I figure, if Paragon City goes down, it'll be that much harder to hit Portal Corps or the Rikti in the future...and besides, Lord Recluse would be mighty something else to find that someone else felled Paragon first."

Rho spoke up, "Hey, boss, less talky, more shooty!"

Todesfall muttered under his breath, "Ingrate, that's my line..." as he fired another pulse blast and felled a charging energy warrior.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The tall one and short one soon arrived in Grandville, and processed a mighty battle taking place. The short one buzzed, "Preliminary action: seek Nation. Purpose: aid."

"So that processor of yours does function. The master would be proud," replied the tall one. "This one is contacting Sinnius now, we will have our orders in less than one standard minute, KillSwitch."

"Indeed. Oranbega sits directly under this city, and the artifacts there could grant me control of the Earth. There's no way these glowing gits are going to screw it up. I say, 'If you want something, work for it or sod off.'"

Death Wielder surrounded his and Todesfall's groups with shadows, obscuring their forms and absorbing some of the light from the creatures.

"That ought to help."

(OOC: By the way, Death Wielder is British.)

Coldfire's foot slammed into the face of the monster as he then flipped and brought down his frozen fists into the beasts forehead. Coldfire landed as the beast stubbled back to an upright position. With a mighty roar it slammed a fist into the ground and lodged it into the sewer pipes, giving Coldfire an advantage.

Running up the monsters arm, Coldfire got behind the monsters head and froze it solid. Then, from the midst of the battle, a blue energy pulse flew through the air and knocked Coldfire off the monster. The blue and red monsters had came as backup. This battle was about to get a lot more rough.

Knuckles was forcing his foe back when a large, red fist slammed into his back. He managed to recover while flying through the air, he was used to fighting multiple enemies. He used his forearms to block the force of his foes' punches somewhat. Unfortunately, his foes were on either side of him, making it much harder to block every punch. Suddenly, he heard a raspy voice in his ear.

"Fool! If they attempt to strike you simultaneously, jump to one side! Try thinking, or you may end up like me, forced to wander, unseen and unfelt, until summoned forth by your temporary ally. You may thank him for bringing me to this side of the veil next time you see him. Farewell."

Knuckles would have been creeped out, if he didn't encounter stuff like that every day. He decided he'd ask Death Wielder about it later, as that was probably who the voice meant. Just, then, he noticed his opponents both drawing back for a crushing blow. He waited for the last possible moment, and jumped out from between them. They got each other right in the gut.

"Heh, youse mooks needs ta woik on yer aim!"

(OOC: That was Ector, Death Wielder's spirit. He can only communicate with the living world most of the time, remaining otherwise intangible and invisible. Death Wielder can bring him forth for short periods, though it doesn't require his henchmen to be defeated, mostly because otherwise, Ector would never see battle.)

Coldfire recovered and stood watching his friends all in combat. Blade had went to Becky and the two were now trying to fight off some of the minions. Carlos was having a shootout with the blue monsters. As Coldfire looked back at the large monster who's head he'd frozen, he lit his fists ablaze and charged.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charcold stood in the main area in which Recluse stood watch over his Isles. Looking out over the balcony at the carnage ensuing, he let out a chuckle. Recluse had foolishly left his databanks open and left no guard to protect the area.

Charcold turned to watch Drone working with one of he computers. After a few minutes, he was finished. Pulling a disk out of the drive, he turned to Charcold.

"The data is secure. Let us go, now." Drone said in a monotone voice.

Charcold leaned off the wall and said in response, "Alright, lets go have some fun."

The group leapt off the build flying to the ground and landing in the middle of the fray. Drone quickly pushed buttons on his projected screen, calling forth his minions. As the robots landed in unison, Drone summoned his force field generator from which his two seeker drones emerged.

"Ymer, Blood Asp, Promethues, Madcat, Nova Cat, and Cougar, report." Drone said to his robots as the began fighting.

"Status: Full Combat ready, awaiting specific orders." Each said in unison still in combat.

"Enable Assassin protocals and begin exterminating the energy beings." Drone said pulling out his pulse rifle and blasting one of the monsters, "No mercy."

Mu'Rahu, for her part, was making headway. The large beast, pre-occupied with Coldfire, and others, ahd yet to even try to reach, her, and her attacks were beginning to telll. She could almost sense it's vitality waning inch by inch.

But then, coldifre was knocked halkway across tehb attle-fiedl by a ray of energy. The soruce was not heard to detect. The blue alien creature had apaparently decided to take a hand. Which ment she and her allies could not afford to take their times with it's burly protectors. Gritting her teath, she decided tot ake decisive action. Casting one of her favorite, and msot effective spells seh watched as the thing's physical and metaphysical energyw as drained away into the Aether. It was harldy enough to cripple an enemy so formidable at full strength, of course, but it's exertion combined wiht her barrage of attacks had weakened it consdierably.

Her Oponent eemed disicinlined to be so easilly defeated, however. Free from melee opoinents it did the last thing she would ever have expected, and rose inot the air, level with her. Caught by surprise, she was completly unable to dodge as it wrapped a hand around her slender middle and began to squeeze. The strength of tis' limbs would have killed a normal human. With her mystic protections, she still couldn't hold out forever. Thinking quickly, she blurted out another spell (shrieked it really, as teh thing's attack began to draw real pain. Designed to drain the energy of countless attackers, it was discharged, thanks to their relative positions, entirely into this one creatures hand. The resulting effect was crippling. The thing relaeased it's grip to collapse, presumably unconscious to teh ground.

Smirking to herself, Mu'Rahu drew back for the killing blow. "well, that takes care-"

She cut off as she collapsed, suddenly, to teh ground, held physiclaly and otherwise by a scinatalint blue field of enery, to beho a sneering blue-skinned alein floating above her, safe in it's coccoon. She had just enough time to register how dangerous that buildup of energy in front fo seemed before it roared, blindinglyu, towards her...

Knuckles had taken care of one of the guardians and the red alien, if only for a few minutes until they came to. He turned to the rest of the battle to see the magic lady, Rahu, about to be vaporized. His reflexes took over, and he dashed into the path of the energy blast. He knew it was a stupid idea, but he was never too bright to begin with, so he considered it perfectly normal. He was blasted backwards into Rahu, after which he fell to one knee. He didn't seem to be affected on the outside, but the rest of him felt similar to what the contents of a sausage might feel like.

"Damn. Sorry, Rahu, yer on yer own for a while. I probably shouldn't move for a while. Take care of yerself."

At that, he collapsed.

Such valor. How extraordinarilly... insane. Mu'Rahu did, fo course., lament the loss of a fighting companion, but ehr talents as a healer were suspect at best, and the alien in front of her was still threatening (to say nothing of that fact, that it was only one of many reinforcements deployed across the city). She would heal the man after-wards, if all went well. if not, well... ultiamtly, he was expendible. She looked about. The man, Carlos, was already preparing additional vollies for their mutual foe, but his efforts seemed to have had little effect, and she was uncertain how much more effective her magics would be.

"Any brillaint ideas, hero?"

Death Wielder was sipping some Earl Grey from a thermos when he felt something. Being in touch with the afterlife tends to give one a form of clairevoyance about potential additions. He began monologuing to nobody.

"Knuckles needs some assistance. Hm, I'd best send someone that can fix him. Luckily, the dead aren't all I can manipulate. The dark serves me just as well."

Death Wielder's shadow promptly disappeared from where it could be seen beneath the streetlight.

----------------------------------------------------

As Knuckles lay unconscious, what litte shadow was being cast by the light from the energy beasts began to darker and enlarge. It soon rose from the ground, taking the shape of Death Wielder. It pointed at one energy beast, which immediately darkened and fell to the ground, and partially healed the wounds of everyone in the vacinity that didn't glow. Immediately afterwards, it sunk back into Knuckles' shadow. Unbeknowst to it, Knuckles came to as soon as his wounds started healing.

"Death Wielder's been helpin' me all night, whether he knows it or not. Guess I owe him one, so I won't kick his [censored] afta dis is ova."

He sat up and called to Rahu.

"Yo, I'm awright! I don't think I can stand, but I gots somethin' for these situations."

He turned to one of the energy beasts and reached up to his sunglasses, and blasted it back with two lasers.

"Not bad, huh? A little gadget I gots, my sunglasses double as laser weapons. Pretty neat, ain't it?"

----------------------------

Death Wielder noticed the return of his shadow, followed by it's thumbs-up.

"Thank you, Umbron, we may survive the night yet."

(OOC: Umbron is a Dark Servant. It is Death Wielder's shadow, given life. Its Twilight Grasp kills "expendables," like those energy soldiers, but works normally on the tough foes. Also, Death Wielder can choose to have Umbron rise from any shadow in a relatively wide radius, but he isn't good for spying, as every report becomes a game of charades, because Umbron doesn't speak.

Also, Umbron, being a living shadow, and therefore modular, can change his powers by harnessing powers from another super's shadow. The new powers depend on AT. MM and Defenders make the normal DS build. Controllers give him Fearsome Stare, Pet. Gaze, Tenebrous Tentacles, Cloak of Fear, and Touch of Fear.

Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes, and Stalkers give different combos of DM/DA powers. Tanker is a few Dark Melee, with all the toggle shields, and that auto power from the Stalker DA. Scrappers get plenty of Dark Melee, with Death Shroud. Brutes grant a few DM, with the non-Obsidian toggle shields and Death Shroud. Stalkers give Hide, that auto power of theirs, Cloak of Darkness, and a few DM powers that DO NOT include AS.

Blasters give a bunch of Dark Blast powers like Torrent, Moonbeam, and Gloom. Corrupters take away the single-target Darkest Night and grant Moonbeam instead. Dominators give PG, FS, Dark Blast, Gloom, and Moonbeam. Warshades give various Umbral Blast powers (but what're the chances of a Warshade or Peacebringer showing up?). Peacebringers give Gloom, Moonbeam, Torrent, Smite, and Dark Maul, but change it that all Neg. Energy damage is split to Half Neg. Energy and Half Energy. It also makes Umbron turn grey. Umbron will normally look like Death Wielder, but if he harnesses a shadow, he will look like who he's copying until he returns to his rightful place. I really like the idea of a modular DS, but if you dislike it, just let me know and I'll take it back.)

After seeing the big guy blast an energy monster, Carlos chuckled and responded to the womans question.

"Well that seems to be working nicely."

Rahu didn't seem entertained. Carlos quickly dropped the smile and gave a real answer.

"I think that I can take out a large number of them with my land mines. If we can get a lot of them in a single area I can destroy many of them."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coldfire was running at the smaller alien when four of the red monsters got in front of him. Leaping up into the air, he impaled ones shoulder with his energy sword and flipped over to the next one in line. Throwing a fireball, he managed to catch two in the blast. Landing on the ground he looked up at the monsters as they roared and charged him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charcold, Frigyd, and Drone had all but cleared out the area when a mysterious red glow took over the battlefield, resurrecting the fallen creatures. Recluse's weakened forces were immediatelly defeated leaving only himself and his cronies to fight them off.

"Shall we save them?" Frigyd asked in her usual sad tone.

"Yea, they'll owe us one." Charcold said as he flew into the mob and erupting in an inferno blasting back many of the monsters.

((I feel like a one man show...

Great job so far everyone!))

(OOC: Wow, five pages for the first fight scene. But, I hope the plot moves soon. Here, I'll help a little.)

Knuckles had regained his strength, and stood up. He turned to the small alien that seemed to be the field commander. He started to think about how he could get to him.

"Those aliens just keep blockin' us, and knocking us away. Hm, how do you get to him? ...I've got it! The answer is: you don't!"

He rushed to the body of the large guardian alien he'd knocked out with his ploy earlier. He grabbed it by the arm, and began to spin. It knocked over all the aliens around him, preventing any meaningful interference, and when he let go of it, he sent it flying directly at the small alien.

(OOC: Since only you know of the small alien's powers, you have to respond with the effect, Coldfire.)

((That is why I never bring more then 1 character to a RP))

Mu'Rahu looked down at the semi-conscious warrior and actually smiled. "I must commend you on your spirit, warrior, if nothing else."

To Carlos, she nodded sagely. "Prepare an area. I willl... get their attention."

So saying, the red-robed sorceress vanished from visible sight. A few moments passed, as the mystic made her way through ranks of white-armoured warrior monsters t find the greatest concentration.

Just as her impromptu companions were wondering if she ahd abandoned them, a massive crimson explosion of electrical energy lit the sky a few hundred meters away, anihilating several-dozen of the invaders at a single blow, and leaving a lone red-robed figure in their midst.

If the other aliens were surprised, however, they certainly didn't slow to ponder. In fact, many times the number she ahd jsut felled turned towards Mu'Rahu and charged. Precisly as planned.

Quaffing a potion to rejuvenate hr from the tremendous exertion, Mu'rahu flew, with as much speed as her consdierable power could manage, back towards the others, and, she could only hope, to the carefully laid an hihghly destructive ordinances which wich Carlos had prepared, with a small army of aliens in close persuit. Well, I supose this really has to work.
