The tragedy of Orpheus.

Orpheus Rhapsody: Heroes of Paragon, gather around, for I have a ballad to croon and a tale to tell.

Many years ago, I was a struggling singer trying to make ends meet and provide for my wife. Life was hard for me; I could only get gigs at seedy bars and taverns. One day, I took a wrong turn in a rough part of the city and came across the Circle of Thorns! Apparently, they were trying to siphon the magical energies from an artifact I later learned was the Harp of Apollo. As I lay in the shadows, I thought to myself that if I could obtain that harp, I could sell it for lots of money and be able to give my wife the life she deserved.

As this thought crossed my mind, a supergroup of heroes swarmed the scene and began to battle the Thorns. Amidst the fray, I took the Harp and ran like a demon. However, the harp began to emit a golden glow! Then a voice spoke to me, a soothing, powerful voice.

"I have chosen you to be my herald! Sing for the people! Be Paragon City's Orpheus, and regale the city with your song!"

"Who...who are you?"

"I am Apollo, the Greek God of Song and the Sun, and you will be my herald. Use your power however you see fit, just remember that you represent me..." And with that, he vanished.

Confused by the ordeal, I continued my walk home, still clutching the harp in my hands. From a nearby alleyway, a group of Hellions assaulted me! They were definite going to mug me, and beyond that...who knows?

I did the only thing I could think of. The only thing I knew how to do. I don't know why I did it, but since that day I have looked back and never regretted doing what I am about to tell you.

I sang.

With each note that came from my mouth, a blast of sonic energy was unleashed upon the Hellions. As I sang the ballads I practiced day and night for school recitals. I performed the operas that I rehearsed relentlessly in high school. I crooned the soulful jazz that I sang in bars and taverns, desperately trying to make endsmeet for my wife and myself.

On that day, I realized I had found my calling in life.

I would be a hero for Paragon. I would represent Apollo and fight those who would usurp and corrupt my city. On that day, I became The Bard of Light, The Holy Minstrel, The One and Only Orpheus.

Word of my heroism spread far and wide in the coming years. My reputation made me loved and respected by fellow heroes and the citizens I swore to defend. My notoriety spread in the criminal underworld as I sent more and more of their numbers to the Zig. My deeds were great, my devotion to good was matched only by the likes of Statesman, who I worked with on one occasion...

Life was good.

And then the Thorns tracked me down.

And then...they had their revenge.
