Well I guess the first step is to know what server you are on. Each one seems to have a core of roleplayers.
The server I inhabit most of the time (Pinnacle) has some soviet/russian themed RP SG (CCCP?), and the RP Congress which is a mix of SGs that gets together specifically for RP.
And yes, up until Hamidon raids and now arena combat were common, CoH was really a Co-op game, which did not appeal to those who wanted hard-core PvP.
Hit up the forum for your server, or the SG forum and I am sure you will find some excellent RP. Or, hang here and join one of the RP threads, if that interests you. Lots of great RP going on here - Gal's Place, New Recruits, Paragon U, and of course the legendary Whitmoore Apartments (my favorite read).

My partner wanted to reactive her City of Heroes account with the coming of Issue 4, to see what it was all about. Since I had an account way back in the day (I never even saw issue 2) she reactivated mine too as a birthday present.
Mostly my main interest is occasional roleplay, since well, the gameplay I've experienced in CoH has never been the most captivating. After spending a day or two in CoH I noticed how more laid back it is than World of Warcraft, which we usually play. The roleplay community there is rife with godmoders, roleplay elitists, people who just like to take offense, naming nazis and people who constantly whine about horde/alliance inequity or getting killed by someone or another. We have fun despite that with our own little group, but damn is it nice to be in a friendlier and less spiteful community again for a change.
So it's a nice change of pace, I miss the roleplay though. If anyone can point me in the direction of something or somewhere I'd be much obliged. We're already on the virtue server, although we can always switch since we're not exactly uber high level.
