Simon and the Thousand Eyes

So, yeah... I was looking around on the Internet for stuff to write about. I draw a lot of inspiration from Mike Mignola's work, in that almost everything he writes he draws from establish folklore or mythology, so I spend a lot of time at Pantheon.Org.

Sometimes, I spill over to other sites, though. This mornin' I hit some Christian encyclopedia site. I don't know how many of you have read the Bible. I have, front to back, just to know what it was all about. Anyway, in Acts, this fella' named Simon asks Peter and John how he can perform miracles like Jesus, and they brand him a heretic, then he begs for them to pray for him.

I found out this mornin' that Simon later went on to lead a small religion in Rome, performing dark miracles for the Emperor Nero in an effort to emulate Jesus. Well, he was so into this, apparently, that he ordered his followers to bury him alive, promising that he would rise again in three days. He didn't.

Anyway, they called him Simon the Magus, since it was believed he was a Zoroastrian before he "converted," and magus was a typical title for anyone who followed the dark arts.

So, I wrote this little excerpt for my biography at my supergroup's website. It encompasses the whole of the Archmage accolade, from the Circle of Thorns to the Tsoo with a dropped hint at Giovanna and the Holy Church.

Enjoy!
